Otto denies emotional support to his daughter, Alicent. Alicent denies emotional support to her son, Aegon. Aegon denies emotional support to Helaena. Aemond , wanting motherly love, goes not to Alicent, but to a sex worker.
This is a sad portrait of a broken family, and how that brokenness continues from one generation to the next and the next…

@@Ryuu44 I think it's wrong way of putting out stuff. Otto done what he thinks best for the realm & in many stuff he was correct politically. Also when u say hightowers is all about " hurt people hurt people " than it's completely wrong because if we start looking back to history of westros than the family which hurt most to the people are targeryans.
Aegon the conqueror built this amazing empire on fire and ashes. Also this civil war is also happend because of targeryans which leads to death of so many people. Daeron the young dragon kills so many people in order to win Dorne, u can then add Blackfyre rebellion to this as well. This list of crimes can go on till Danerys killing kingslanding people ( in the show ).

@@rohitkumar-dc3xb i think that you're disagreeing with something that's not my argument. "hurt people hurt people" is a saying about passing on abuse. It's about the person thst was fondled by their dad, and grew up into a father fondling their kid. It's about the child that grew up with an abusive alcoholic parent growing into an abusive alcoholic. It's about the daughter of a psycho that used her as a fuck doll for a kind and never showed her any affection, so now she's unable to comfort her son, when he's crying in front of her. On top of that I'm talking about this show, not the whole ASOIAF lore. This episode goes out of it's way to show this is a huge theme for this part of the story.

The Duel of the Cargyll Twins is immortalized in Westerosi legend as the ultimate display of honor and duty. In the book _A Game of Thrones,_ Bran recalls the story when thinking about famous Kingsguard members and, in _A Clash of Kings,_ Sansa uses the legend to demonstrate that a man crying does not make him weak. Olenna Tyrell also has two twin guards named Erryk and Arryk after the famous kingsguard members.
And yes, that means that Arryk and Erryk Cargyll have been a part of the lore of the ASoIaF/GoT universe since the very beginning.

lol this is the woman who physically abused Aegon while fear-conditioning him against Rhaenyra, and the one who called him an imbecile when he asked if she loved him. Of course, she doesn't care to console him. And she was raised that way too. Alicent embraces the institution that failed her and continues the cycle of abuse, even worse than it was with her. She is the strife between them and Rhaenyra, the grief in Helaena (she calls her own grandson "the child"), the anger in Aemond, and the troubles in Aegon. Jace and Baela are not married. They are betrothed. They aren't siblings either, but they are cousins. And step-siblings, who share siblings. Luke and Rhaena were also betrothed before his death. It happened during episode 8 of last season, but in the book, Rhaenyra betrothed them when they were toddlers because she was very close with Daemon and Laena (the twins are younger than the boys in the book, the show messed up all the ages).
Just letting yall know, that the only incest exclusive to Targaryens is between blood-siblings, which was common in Old Valyria for all dragon lord families (they were all fighting each other for power and keeping the blood pure meant the bond they acquired through blood magic would remain strong and keep them linked to dragons). Otherwise, all of Westeros practices incest. Cousin-cousin being the most common (Tywin and his wife Johanna Lannister, Ned Stark's parents Rickard and Lyarra Stark, etc). Then avuculate marriages (aunt/nephew, uncle/niece) are fairly common as well, mostly for the followers of the Old Gods, against the Starks have uncles who married their nieces, including a son of Lord Cregan Stark).
Sibling marriage falls into the Doctrine of Exceptionalism created by King Jaehaerys Targaryen (Viserys, Daemon and Rhaenys' grandfather). He eloped with his sister Alysanne and made her his Queen against his mother's wishes. Daemon and Viserys' parents were also brother and sister, Alyssa and Baelon. Rhaenys' parents were aunt and nephew, Aemon Targaryen and Jocelyn Baratheon. Aegon and Helaena marry under this doctrine that continues all throughout the dynasty, with the last sibling marriage being between Aerys and Rhaella, Daenerys' parents.

Two things. Firstly, the tragedy of being Daemon Targaryen. He does not want the throne for himself, he wants a STRONG Targaryen on the throne, and every time he looks at the people he considers true Targaryens (His Brother and his Niece-Wife) he sees weakness, the same weakness that nearly toppled the Targaryens one generation after the conquest. Every move he makes is to try to strengthen his House and family, and all others see is him trying to climb, attain power, and potentially usurp. Rhaenrys does the first thing he thinks is a good move (Calls for the assassination of Aemond, something he was planning to do, albeit more directly). The men he hires go off script, give up before even searching properly, and fuck up the entire job. In response, the woman he has backed since she was a child to be Queen accuses him of weakening her, and says she can't trust him, when all his actions have been to try to win her war (From his perspective).
Secondly, dear god, Cole's plan is DUMB. Arryk is nearly caught AT THE GATE, all it takes is a single question from another Kingsguard answered wrong, or him running into Daemon (remember, Arryk is very uncomfortable sneaking in, and probably would slip up under any sort of questioning), and suddenly the Greens have lost a valuable, skilled knight and gained nothing, besides tarring them as willing to use the same tools of assassination, except they did it with a Kingsguard, a man supposed to remain at the Royal Families side to protect them at all times.

In my eyes nobody won, a foreshadow of whats to come. Aegon is a byproduct of those around him. He was never fit to rule nor did he want to. His desire never was (or will be) about the people. Otto thought he could teach that to him but Otto like all old men fail to realize not all can be taught. Now having gone through the trauma of losing his own son Aegon will look to rule out of spite to Rhaenyra just like Otto points out. And the funny thing is when Aegon kicks him from being hand he realizes everything he has done will be for nothing. And the war will only destroy both families.

Sorry, but Daemon is right. Viserys was dumb. A weak king. A coward who nearly destroyed the Targaryen legacy. His only merit was being born first. He was very much in Daemon's shadow. Daemon who rode Caraxes, the dragon of Crown Prince Aemon, their uncle and the heir to the throne, and the beloved brother of their father, Baelon (and Rhaenys rides Meleys, which was the dragon of Alyssa, Damon and Viserys' mother who died at childbirth). The fact that they don't explain the dynamics (and the messed up timeline) hurts the comprehension of their relationship. Daemon was the quintessential Targaryen. A dragonrider, a warrior, "Fire and Blood". He was knighted at sixteen by the Old King and given Dark Sister, the ancestral sword that belonged to Queen Visenya Targaryen, rider of Vhagar. In the very show, we have Viserys say Daemon was Alyssa's favorite because he was a warrior (she died when Daemon was 3 but ok), and he also tells Rhaenyra she is like Daemon, both blood of the dragon, chaotic and unpredictable.
Daemon was the one who raised an army to fight against Corlys for Viserys' claim during the Great Council of 101 (after the death of their father, who was the Prince of Dragonstone, chosen over Rhaenys' after her father, Aemon, died by accident during the Myrish Bloodbath). Daemon also only wanted to be acknowledged by Viserys, he never aimed for the throne (if he wanted the throne, he could have killed Viserys). Viserys didn't trust Daemon, but he trusted fucking Otto Hightower, TWICE. Even after he knew Otto was planning against his chosen heir. Daemon was always loyal to Viserys. His love and loyalty to his family is perhaps his only saving grace. He wants to protect the Targaryen name, dynasty and his loved ones (Viserys, Rhaenyra, their children).
And he is absolutely right, Viserys did name Rhaenyra as his heir to punish Daemon. With time, he came to see her as the right choice but never did anything to secure her place. He always put his new family between them.
Regarding Blood & Cheese, they keep pushing this accident narrative as they tried to do with Aemond and Lucerys, or the usurpation. It's not. Jaehaerys is a kid, yes, but also the usurper's heir. This is medieval times. Nobody cares about age. A child is a legacy only. Childhood doesn't exist and neither does CPS. It's normal in Westeros to take your enemy's firstborn son hostage once a war is won. And the greens were the ones who started the war both diplomatically by usurping, and actively when Aemond killed Lucerys. A son for a son is very much normal retribution.
Rhaenyra's passivity is a problem in the show. She's not like that in the book. Actually, Daemon is the one who is cautious about sending the dragons to war. Rhaenys the one who suggests it. This can't be solved by a division of assets with a mediator. When usurpers reach for the throne, they need to be killed; and the same applies to their entire line to unsure they do not try again.
You can see Aegon both parallels and opposes Viserys. He is reckless and violent, which Viserys never was, but he also does the very same thing Viserys did in the pilot. Viserys sends Daemon away after Otto manipulates him, which is the worst decision he made (and you can see he immediately cuts himself in the throne and starts to lose his fingers and eventually his hand, symbolism for his loss of support and how his Hand - Otto - is rotten). Aegon does the same to Otto, who now tastes the bitterness he made Daemon taste, and names Criston to humiliate him. Daemon never liked Otto and vice-versa. Otto doesn't like Daemon because Daemon sees him for what he is and he isn't weak and easy to manipulate as Viserys was, which is the reason he suggests Viserys name Rhaenyra as his heir while he works with Alicent to have her seduce Viserys. He just never counted on Viserys keeping Rhaenyra.

All those people y'all said were squeaky clean on team black YES that's how it's meant to be. Some fellows readers will cry afoul & mention some of the things Book Rhae does to make herself less amazing but even still she's FAR better than book Ally who is worse than show Ally. There is never & should never be a 'balance' between the 2 sides. Team black is the good & Green the bad. That's how it was in the book, & the book is still great. The story is fine. You don't need both sides to be equal.

I'm not going to get into spoilers for others but if we just look at the two rulers on both sides it's obvious Queen Rhaenyra is a much better choice than Aegon. She was raised and taught to rule from a young age. Aegon was not and was never supposed to be anywhere near that throne. I'm assuming King Viserys knew about all the bad shit Aegon was into since others knew. Aegon was like 7th in line after Queen Rhaenyra and her children which means he would most likely never rule. Otto and Alicent ambition ruined everything and destroyed the realm. It's obvious who's in the right. Granted there are morally questionable characters on both sides. I strongly dislike the change they did to the B&C incident, HOWEVER they(the showrunners) did a great job with the twins. IMO the reason I consider the dance of dragons to be the best storyline in the history of ASOIAF is due to incidents like B&C or the twins fight. It was such a tragedy for the brothers to fight that a song was made for them called farewell my brother. So far B&C poor change might be the only outlier this season if all the great moments that are yet to come are treated like the battle of twins. And they are doing pretty good job of foreshadowing the seeds thus far as well.

Definitely the best among Alicen't sons. And honestly? The best among all of Viserys' kids (barring Helaena who we all love). Too bad, he was Alicent's third son. If Daeron was her eldest son then that throne would have been his. Or at the very least, Rhaenyra would have a tough time trying to defeat him. I’m worried during the funeral when the cart got unstuck, the cart will jerk and the stitches on the head will roll off into the ground.

That fight between the twin brothers is supposed to represent the war between Rhaenyra and her own brother. The show made a mistake having Aegon be a teenage rapist. Otherwise if they just kept him a bored teenager forced into the role of king he wouldn't be so hated. Then the war between a brother and sister would seem a lot more tragic than a simple good guys vs baddies.

This episode more than any other has shown this war isn't simply a "good vs bad"
Aegon has more depth and likeability in this one episode than the entirety of the book. He's a very tragic character, who probably would've been a good man/king had he not been neglected by Viserys and wasn't just a tool by Otto.

he was always a r4pist and an assaulter in the books. also he’s like 21, not a teenager

@@hunterhorsehelmsley7315 For most (as shown by Nerdy/Clarus' reactions along with many others) Aegon will always be just a rapist idiot and there's no redemption from that. This leaves Team Black as the heroes because they have Rhaenyra who seems extremely competent and her equally moral and lovely family (Rhaenys, Corlys, Jace, Baela & co.) vs. a rapist, Cole, Alicent and a child killer.
Why would people not see one side as the righteous and the other as evil or at least undeserving.

@@mmemori According to unreliable sources. But more importantly Rhaenera is equally as horrible making their struggle more of a familial spat.

@@carebearsedai3005 so they’re unreliable narrators when it’s convenient for you? septon eustace who was a green supporter also supported the claim that aegon was sucked off by a 12 year old. and rhaenyra was never EVER as disgusting, predatory, and horrible as aegon and his faction.

Considering how well Rhys Ifans is playing Otto as serious and calculating you wouldnt be able to tell he is an absolutely phenomenal Comedic actor, dudes immensely talented.
They leaned too hard making Aegon a piece of shit in the first season with making him a rapist, now people have next to no sympathy for him which is a shame because his actor is giving his heart and soul acting, the only people we feel truly sorry for is Helaena as she is completely innocent and truly a good person.
