Yeah, I didn't have time to clean up at all! Actually, in the middle of making sculpture, it gets a bit messy, and then I clean it all up before I start another one. Thanks for the comment, Nate!
Great video and Tom is a fantastic artist! I never realized the amount of work that went into his art. I've followed him on Instagram and Facebook for a while but this video really shows Tom in a different approachable light and who doesn't just love his art?! Glad to find Artrageous with Nate!

That's funny I have been wanting to build one ever since I went to a children's museum as well back in the early 80s. It was OMSI in portland OR and it was called the Gravitram. I'm just now watching these videos for ideas because its time to build now that I'm 50.
I love this story. It's never too late to get started! Interestingly, I've been filming a lot of people welding, and even tried it. I'm now looking into a class to learn the basics. Super pumped to try a new form of art. Best of luck, and send me some pics when you build your first one!

I would love to make one of these. I want to make one for a project for me and my daughter. She just graduated high school and I want to do something she can have with her always something special. I don’t have much money, any tips on best cheapest materials, what kind of metal to use for rails, do u solder or weld at those breaking points in the frame, braces, rails, etc. what’s the best balls to use? Where to buy the materials from for the best deal etc, anyone with any info it would be a huge help. That being said I’m not looking for bulk materials to mass produce 😂 just really want to make one as a project. So the required tools and materials needed to complete a medium sized piece. I like to work with wood so I was thinking of using some really nice wood in the construction to give it some element of nature maybe a little more touch of elegance not that it’s not already elegant enough I find it very relaxing and very calming to look at as well. So plz tips, tricks info I need all the help I can get plz. Oh thank you Tom for your videos and GOD BLESS

What type of material is this made of? Stainless steel?
From what I understood it's all stainless steel with minor exceptions for wooden additions, etc. Thanks for watching and the great question!

Well, we got into the basics. To really show you how he makes them would require months of filming and episodes on how to weld. However, he does have a very active Instagram account where he posts LOTS of videos showing you many of the steps and processes he uses. Look him up!

So how does he make them? A story about his inspirations is not what I was looking for. oh well.
To show step-by-step how he makes these would require hours of filming! I can summarize in stating that he uses a mix of several trades, and a ton of experience. Most of his creations are not planned out. He simply understands how he wants the machine to function, and then begins the task of cutting and welding.
My goal was to give an overview of his basic process, and better understand who he is as an artist.

I liked the video, but I've one problem with it. I really was hoping to watch a run-through of one of his sculptures. Having the camera/viewer follow the ball through the complete sculpture from start to finish would have been great! As it is, we're just left disappointed and unfulfilled.
