- Mitsubishi was an early mover in petrol-electric hybrid passenger cars, with the full-size Outlander PHEV arriving a decade ago. Since then the technology has been refined and trickled down to the compact Eclipse Cross.
Offered in three grades, the Eclipse Cross Plug-in Hybrid EV Exceed sits at the top of the tree, combining a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with twin electric motors, for optimal efficiency and all-wheel drive capability.
Predominantly pitched at young urban families, Helen Frost drove it in the city before taking the car out of its comfort zone on a road trip from Sydney, more than 750 kilometres north to Byron Bay, looking for charging options and assessing fuel efficiency all the way.
She’s also looked at size and family practicality, as well as broader ownership costs, safety, performance and on-board technology.
If you’re in the market for a city-sized SUV, with open road ability and hybrid efficiency, Helen has the answers to all your questions. Just hit play!

My sister has the previous gen and it was so impressive it sold me on Mitsubishi again after many years of lacklustre models- I was looking for 4WDs so I bought a Pajero Sport. Love it. But with this efficiency, a 10-year warranty, the design (inside and out) and their known reputation for reliability (why is this so undervalued with reviewers) - it’s strikes me as a great car. 7/10 is a bit harsh I thought. Otherwise a good review.
It’s a beautiful car,but they really need to do better with the dashboard and the navigation display, that gear shift mob is just a no no. Aside from those ,it’s an absolute beauty.
The US version of Eclipse Cross for 2023 have all LED headlights now for all trim levels , I wonder if in Australia they do the same thing, which I think they should. Halogen is just so outdated, I mean even the ASX has all led headlights for all trim levels.
Living in South Africa we have planned black outs 6-8 hours per day.. I am looking for a fast charging PHEV that can power my home and or shop ..turn into a generator like the PHEV outlander .. I am getting the outlander to that reason... No other PHEVS do that .. blackouts are here to stay for at least another 15 years.
Great video thank you.
Our we to assume it has a 13.8kWh Main Battery?
13.8kwh 300V
Will it be available in the U.S. in the near future????
Good presentation
Thanks for watching!
Phev technology needs to be properly analyze if you really want to save Gas. Heaps of people out there have a Phev SUV but they use it improper and unsuitable to their surroundings, In short it was use wrongly. For example, many out there owns a Phev but when they travel long distance they shift the Regenerate Braking in to Drive mode or D witch is wrong because it will consume a lot of Gas because the force of regenerate breaking still high and that engine will have more difficulty because the brake is still stuck and it needs more gas, The Proper way of using phev on a highway is shift your steering wheel shifter to B-O and if your going down a hill then that's the time you shift to K1 up to K5 if you need to add a little on your battery. Phev is a very complex technology, If you know how to use it then you get a good result.
I don't like how everyone parrots Mitsubishi's claim of a ten year warranty, when Australian law says you can't compel where the car is serviced as a condition of warranty. It's a five year warranty with a conditional warranty extension, same as any other brand would sell you if you wanted.
It,s best car
How long EV mode will last?
Didn’t you listen to the video??? Do you need to be spoon fed your information because you’re too lazy. Its 45kms ya bum.
Why would you want heated steering wheel and seats in Australia?
Try living in Melbourne in winter !
Cooling would be more appropriate but I guess cooling costs more.
If you live in an Apt get the gas version. Common sense.
Dude!! It’s looks nice on the outside but seriously it’s at LEAST a generation behind inside. Call it what it is.
55k+ for this thing 😂😂
At least 3 generations ahead than toyota though..
The design....or the lack of...interior and exterior...not my cup of tea!
Mitsubishi has lost the plot
