Nostalgia can be tough as you age, I guess depending on how you look back. My brain wants to look back and miss all the different phases of my life, but 1) my brain ruminates on the bad parts and 2) I feel loss/depression about not being able to go back or experience it again.

Nostalgia is probably the worst thing in the world besides sadism and starvation. I was not a normal kid at all. I was BORN with death anxiety and dreaded every single birthday, dreading the end from the very beginning. I cried when I turned ten because I now had two digits in my age and I knew it was how many you usually have at death, never making it to three. I cried when I hit puberty. I cried when I realized I was taller than my mom. These events all hit like terminal cancer diagnoses and gave me literal trauma. By 14 I was more at peace with eventual death but I took that number the way most people tend to 30 or 40, that fear that youth is over and you really have to figure your life out. So imagine what "sweet 16" and "adult 18" felt like. No excitement whatsoever. Zero percent. Just such a weird and miserable child.
But I think due to being this way, I have an aversion to nostalgia. I don't understand how it's bittersweet for some people. It's literally the worst emotional feeling I've ever experienced, bar none. What it really is, is the feeling of permanent loss of something good. When I think about the fact that it would by now be essentially impossible to recreate certain happy moments in my earlier life, it's so emotionally devastating that I have to start blocking it out so I don't become a danger to myself. I hate nostalgia. I would probably have a brain surgery that could prevent it. Seriously.

I’m happy to see so many people reference the egg theory segment. I would love it if you spliced it and posted it as a separate video. Content creators post videos titled “you should watch this every morning” to refer to some practice or some notion that would make you more aware of your own being and help you to live your day with intention. I believe this segment, given its own space, would be one of those videos. It says just about everything I have come to understand about spiritual teaching and existential thinking. Great overall video. I enjoy all of the concepts you have presented and the concise explanation and brief history given to each one.

The Egg Theory really does resonate with me. I had a terrible hospital visit in 2017 in which I had died under surgury for 20 minutes. When I was gone, I had a sense of calming solitude in which nobody had greeted me or walked with me. I strongly believe that it was not my time and I was brought back for a reason, but with your explanation that everyone around is basically me but not really me is overwhelming. In the sesne that I could be the worst and best version of myself on different timelines. It's not a crazy idea but its worth taking note of.

Wow 20 minutes, interesting experience! Glad you're fine and had a revelation. I also had an NDE but it was in another context. Very calming and serene vibe but no people or anything actually. Most of people brought back have a certain role in the world, even if it might not make sense for them how is that. I also get sometimes spooked by that theory, because I think it might have a truth to it, but also more aspects that are not seen perceived clearly. And after all, if all is you in another form, death is an illusion and the yourney of knowing yourself inside and outside (in others) might be a pretty fascinating road, especially when there are other things that are there, but can be caught and disecated by humans in order to study it.

    • @vorpal22

The Dunning-Kruger effect is just so painful on so many levels... especially when it comes to discussions about religion. I taught logic courses for seven years, and when I see people making such flawed arguments for the existence of a god, and I try to challenge them on it, and they think that they know more than me but are making such obvious fallacies, it's painful. Some guy told me I didn't know how to "think cortically" because I broke out some basic formal logic to show him why what he said was not a valid argument. He claimed he was an expert philosopher and into apologetics but he didn't even know basic formal logic. 🤦‍♀
Knowing how much you don't know and then interacting with someone who knows far less than you but thinks that they're an expert is such a double whammy of mental anguish. It's like being smacked up on all sides.
I think I'll adopt your strategy and just let them wallow in their misinformation and keep quiet. It isn't worth the frustration.

@@vorpal22 quantum physics has proven we exist cuz something is observing us from higher dimensions. none of the religions have it correct but to think there is a higher entity is true (but its just higher, purer consciousness, not an actual separate being).

    • @vorpal22
      @vorpal22 Před 7 měsíci

@@CarefulHowYouStepIf being observed is a necessary condition for existence, then that thing from a higher dimension would also have to be observed, and that's just another formulation of the problem of infinite regress. As a result, I don't think we can take it as proven by quantum physics that something is observing us. Furthermore, a substantial number of quantum physicists are atheists (a considerably higher percentage than int the general population).
I do appreciate your speculation, because I've spent a lot of time thinking about things like what you've said here, and even though I'm an atheist, I am a philosophical Taoist as well, although Taoism is rather panentheistic and doesn't imbue a sense of consciousness onto Tao.
The analogy I like to use for consciousness the way I think about it is like a mushroom colony: a mushroom colony consists of a large underground mycelial network that produces mushrooms which produce spores and then decay or are consumed. The mushrooms can simultaneously be considered individual things, but also part of the greater whole. Every conscious living being is like a mushroom.
Of course, that's all completely speculative and at best an imperfect analogy, and we don't even have an agreed upon definition of consciousness. Many scientists believe that consciousness is an emergent property of sufficiently complex computation amongst neurons. (See the consciousness hypotheses of materialism and emergentism.)

I see it in people all the time. I know I'm an idiot, but for instance I talk often with a guy at work about firearms and notably he called himself a gun guy, while I said I know next to nothing about them. But the topic of personal protection came up for bear attacks, and another friend recommended a 10mm hand gun and the so called gun guy said the 10mm was a bad choice because he had seen a video of it not penetrating a bear skull. However if he had done his research almost everyone recommended a 10mm I found, even some 9mm because it was more about what your comfortable with and not what size caliber the gun was.

So, it was due to Dunning Kruger effect. Previously, i thought i was above most people but now i doubt on everything. Despite getting 8.24 gpa out of 10 in engineering i thought I was not qualified to work when below average students were doing fine. Recently i was preparing for PTE examination and before giving i was not too confident and also after giving it, I was only expecting 65-70 points but when the result came, I was surprised that I got overall 90 which is the highest marks one can obtain and that too is only obtained by less than 10 people maybe in country, and still, I am not too confident in my English.

Starting off with the swan is brilliant. Black swan is next to the cave shadows story on understanding the core of philosophy. People focus too much on *a* philosophy, when we should always be questioning and 'trying' different views, forcing different biases on ourselves to better understand and be aware of them-rather than observing them through a looking glass; Which leads to said Black Swan.

Keep in mind the act of deliberately ‘trying’ different perspectives ironically derives from a perspective; the perspective that trying different views is useful. Thus; have you ever really changed?
Also there is no guarantee that changing perspective would bring you any closer to the truth. But there’s no good way of testing the veracity of any singular experience. We just measure them against each other and consider truth to be popular common opinion. Whatever makes you most comfortable I guess.

I've been listening to theories about philosophy for most of my life. I settled on believing that there is only one Soul, and it is not limited by time or space, and we are ALL reincarnations of the same person. It makes it easier to be decent, considering I'm also the other person in another life. It also explains why so many of the women I know have been Cleopatra.

How does it explain how horrible we are to each other tho. I haven’t watched the video yet but humans are pretty terrible. To each other to the planet to themselves to animals to everything… if we even had the smallest inkling we were amongst differing versions of a single self, why then would we behave like we do?
I also agree with the morality comment. Morality is a social construct so without others to agree or disagree from differing perspectives how would we as a group ever come up with what we deemed right or wrong, and how do you explain all the evil in the world happening bc essentially you’re saying it’s you who is a pedo or a murderer or a r+pist if everyone on earth is you, it’s you doing all the bad things that happen every day and that’s kinda messed up.
And what’s up w everyone thinking they were cleopatra 😂 I’ve heard that so many times esp with “past lives” people they’re always cleopatra like why her lol

I work in medicine. 90% of patients were married just once, for life. Partner of 50-60 yrs died. Had 5 kids, they all live their lives and ultimately only return to ask for money. These frail old plp sacrificed their life as a provider. They're rewarded with nothing. Just abandoned all year, barring bday and Christmas. They're so miserable.
They blame the care home for the misery. But we both know the truth. Their loved ones left them. It's so cruel.
It's such a common story, I decided not to marry or have kids.
Sometimes, one childless offspring will do a weekly visit to the elderly relative. They're usually on bad terms with their siblings. I see this constantly. I have to interact with the patient or their kids. I'm meant to be there for the medicine management, but constantly witness this horrible end-of-life abandonment.
No one talks about this last 10 years.

I just wanna argue one point you made in which you pose the question: when was the last time you read a book about someone who failed?
And the answer is… many, many times. Many psychoanalysts and philosophers died poor and unknown. A lot were even ridiculed and hated during their lives. It wasn’t until after they died as failures that people finally realized the value of their work.
This extends to a lot of musicians, artists, and so on.

I can easily emphasize with people because they are me. It also made sense why some people are evil and some are kind and understanding, those evil people are the version of me who was still in the early stage of conception, they don't know much but themselves. Those kinder versions of me are the more matured ones who reached a reasonable point of enlightenment. It also aligned with buddhism's "We are One" and Christian's "Do to your neighbors what you want to be done unto you"...makes me wonder what if Jesus was our final Form? He did ascend with his reincarnated body

If you look at the standard model diagram, there is a block of 6 quarks, and below that a block of 6 leptons, which includes the electron (quarks and leptons also all have anti-particles as well). Only hadrons are made up of quarks. The hadrons include the baryons and mesons. Baryons are made up of 3 quarks, so neutrons and protons are baryons. And mesons are made up of 2 quarks, a quark + an anti-quark. I think there are also particles that have been measured that are made up of 4 quarks, the tetraquark, or even 5 quarks.

To think and text is still for me not full in ways that I can comprehend or explain without being just another uninspired being with a minimal understanding of anything. I've tried to fill a false emptiness and find that it's personal perspective. To explore the root from within I find myself alone in a sea of experiences that I can still experience. In it's self keeps me moving forward. I love all people is something I believed was possible so I say it especially when situations want to pull me away. I do remember the future

Now that knowledgable people understand that they typically underestimate themselves, they've started getting an understanding on how much they really know in comparison to those who don't understand whatever the subject is. It's an attitude to life and it has nothing to do with having to attain self-esteem/confidence first. I've always had problems with people telling me "you just need more self-confidence" because it's such a vague concept to me. I can't just magically gain self-confidence because to me you can only acquire that with more knowledge or skill. I've had enough opportunities to put myself above others, or pretend that I do, but I simply don't because I try to be realistic with my abilities.

In this speculative scenario, let's consider Leibniz's Monad (first emanation of God), from the philosophical work "The Monadology", as an abstract representation of the zero-dimensional space that binds quarks together with the Strong Nuclear Force:
    1) Indivisibility and Unity: Monads, as indivisible entities, mirror the nature of quarks, which are deemed elementary and indivisible particles in our theoretical context. Just as monads possess unity and indivisibility, quarks are unified in their interactions through the Strong Nuclear Force.
    2) Interconnectedness: In the Monadology, monads are interconnected in a vast network. In a parallel manner, the interconnectedness of quarks through the strong force could be metaphorically represented by the interplay of monads, forming a web that holds particles together.
    3) Inherent Properties: Just as monads possess inherent perceptions and appetitions, quarks could be thought of as having intrinsic properties like color charge, reflecting the inherent qualities of monads and influencing their interactions.
    4) Harmony: The concept of monads contributing to universal harmony resonates with the idea that the Strong Nuclear Force maintains harmony within atomic nuclei by counteracting the electromagnetic repulsion between protons, allowing for the stability of matter.
    5) Pre-established Harmony: Monads' pre-established harmony aligns with the idea that the strong force was pre-designed to ensure stable interactions among quarks, orchestrating their behavior in a way that parallels the harmony envisaged by Leibniz.
    6) Non-Mechanical Interaction: Monads interact non-mechanically, mirroring the non-mechanical interactions of quarks through gluon exchange. This connection might be seen as a metaphorical reflection of the intricacies of quark-gluon dynamics.
    7) Holism: The holistic perspective of monads could symbolize how quarks, like the monads' interconnections, contribute holistically to the structure and behavior of particles through the strong force interactions.
    em·a·na·tion

an abstract but perceptible thing that issues or originates from a source.

[2D is not the center of the universe,
0D is the center of the mirror universe]:
The mirror universe theory is based on the concept of parity violation, which was discovered in the 1950s. Parity violation refers to the observation that certain processes in particle physics don't behave the same way when their coordinates are reversed. This discovery led to the idea that there might be a mirror image of our universe where particles and their properties are flipped.
In this mirror universe, the fundamental particles that make up matter, such as electrons, protons, and neutrinos, would have their charges reversed. For example, in our universe, electrons have a negative charge, but in the mirror universe, they might have a positive charge.
Furthermore, another aspect of the mirror universe theory involves chirality, which refers to the property of particles behaving differently from their mirror images. In our universe, particles have a certain handedness or chirality, but in the mirror universe, this chirality could be reversed.
Quantum mechanics is more compatible with Leibniz's relational view of the universe than Newton's absolute view of the universe.
In Newton's absolute view, space and time are absolute and independent entities that exist on their own, independent of the objects and events that take place within them. This view implies that there is a privileged observer who can observe the universe from a neutral and objective perspective.
On the other hand, Leibniz's relational view holds that space and time are not absolute, but are instead relational concepts that are defined by the relationships between objects and events in the universe. This view implies that there is no privileged observer and that observations are always made from a particular point of view.
Quantum mechanics is more compatible with the relational view because it emphasizes the role of observers and the context of measurement in determining the properties of particles. In quantum mechanics, the properties of particles are not absolute, but are instead defined by their relationships with other particles and the measuring apparatus. This means that observations are always made from a particular point of view and that there is no neutral and objective perspective.
Overall, quantum mechanics suggests that the universe is fundamentally relational rather than absolute, and is therefore more compatible with Leibniz's relational view than Newton's absolute view.
What are the two kinds of truth according to Leibniz?
There are two kinds of truths, those of reasoning and those of fact. Truths of fact are contingent and their opposite is possible. Truths of reasoning are necessary and their opposite is impossible.
What is the difference between Newton and Leibniz calculus?
      Newton's calculus is about functions.
Leibniz's calculus is about relations defined by constraints.
In Newton's calculus, there is (what would now be called) a limit built into every operation.
In Leibniz's calculus, the limit is a separate operation.
What are the arguments against Leibniz?
Critics of Leibniz argue that the world contains an amount of suffering too great to permit belief in philosophical optimism. The claim that we live in the best of all possible worlds drew scorn most notably from Voltaire, who lampooned it in his comic novella Candide.
