I dont think this car should be compared to the Civic because the Civic is basically a mid-size car now.
The Corolla is smaller, lighter a bit more nimble. Its meant to be a simpler way of transportation and I like that aspect for it. Kudos to Toyota, Honda and Mazda for keeping their little cars updated and appealing!

That's what Toyota is, most of their cars on the road without the issues are base models with nothing in it - basically a refrigerator on the wheels. This has changed recently, tho. Look at RAV4 for example. It has so many problems such as: injector, battery setting car on fire, rollover, fuel pump failure, gearbox failure, airbags and the list goes on. No, those are not 1 or 2 issues, they actually have millions of cars recalled for these matters. I'm sorry but Toyota is not what it used to be. They have gone down hill and are living of the reputation that they built over 1980s, 1990s and 2000 - 2010. After 2010 they began to go down hill and just for the past 4 years they rapidly began to lose quality.

Of course, i added my own twist to it; plenty of suspension modifications/bracing, bolts ons, wheels and grippy tires, etc and while it's not as quick as other hatches on the market the handling is amazing both in the mountains and on some of the twisties down here in Florida. From the factory they are decent cars, but with some modifications they wake up and become really fun to throw around corners!

Yet it has the most powerful NA 2.0 engine in its segment. And remember this is not a hot hatch / performance model. For 169 hp it is more than enough for a commuter car. A 2.5 is more proper for a midsize car, and would add too much weight to a compact car, worse mpg, more expensive, and would be even more front heavy for an already front heavy car. For its size and purpose I would rather have this 2.0. Again 169 is plentiful for a compact commuter car. If you want more power you go get a hot hatch or a midsize car. The Corolla Hatch, by comparison, is much more youthfully styled and I think, isn’t trying to be the complete family vehicle that the Civic is. I think if it was my money, I would actually take the Corolla Hatch. The Corolla hatch drives FANTASTIC, and the tidy size and styling makes the Civic almost look dorky. In the UK, we used to get the Corolla with a 1.2 litre turbo with a 6MT.
Now we only get it as a hybrid and a CVT.
Until we get the Corolla GR (which I hope it comes to the UK and Europe).
Another thing to say, in Europe and Japan, you can get the Corolla as an estate variant.

I know this 2.0l engine has at least 180 hp and a few more torques in it without forced induction...and no transmission beefing up needed. If Toyota could do that with some ECU trickery combined with a bit more air intake and freer flowing exhaust, it would wake this thing up enough to be competitive with something like the Civic Hatch and Mazda 3 hatch.

Hey Joe and Lori, and the Raiti's Rides family how are y'all doing.
Hey Joe and the Raiti's Rides family, thanks for the video.
"Fun fact: I didn't knew that Toyota sold the Corolla with a manual transmission in the United States", now I did knew the Corolla was sold as a hatchback and I'm am actually happy that Toyota sells a manual with a already relreliable vehicle.
Which means a "fun" hatchback with a manual transmission that also is reliable is available in the United States (especially in a country where manuals and hatchback are dying).
Plus it's a Toyota, so it ain't going to break the bank at the repair shop and it isn't going to break down in most places.
But anyways what is your favorite hatchback that sold in the US:
Mazda 3 hatchback, Volkswagen Golf, Honda Civic Type R (previous gen), Honda Civic hatchback (current gen), Volkswagen Golf GTI,
Golf R, Toyota Prius, Kia Soul, Chevrolet Bolt EV, Kia Rio hatchback, Nissan Leaf, Subaru Impreza hatchback, Hyundai Veloster N, Mini cooper 2 door, Mini electric hardtop, Toyota Prius prime.
Or the sportback variant, like a Audi RS5, Audi RS7, Mercedes CLS, Mercedes AMG GT 4-door coupe, BMW 4 series "grand coupe", BMW 8 series "grand coupe", Volkswagen arteon, Porsche Panamera, Kia Stinger.
(Ok, I might of exaggerate abit, but most of them aren't like a actually hatchback and more practical sedan, by only changing the front end and rear trunk to open more).

I think the Corolla hatch is made in Japan, which would be a big deciding factor for me if I were looking at a cheap hatchback 6MT. It is definitely slower than a Civic hatch, and has less space, so props to the Civic for being better in those areas. I think the Civic's interior is also a bit nicer too.
