I have had the Arkfeld PRO for a couple of weeks and the EDC27 for 3 nights of testing now. Indoors you can see that the Arkfeld Pro 1300lm and the EDC27 1000lm are a close match. Outside at distance to an object you can tell the EDC27 is both brighter and a wider beam. I like the Olight Arkfeld Pro, I love the Nitecore EDC27. The EDC27 for me is a better EDC light and the Arkfeld Pro is a specialty light. I guess it was inevitable once the Arkfeld developed into the Pro model but I see more and more comparison videos of these two lights popping up.
As a otr truck driver.this light is amazing.between the build quality and size light output. battery life.its the best light I've ever had.can Hardly tell it's in my pocket ❤
this is by far the best EDC light available on the market. it beats all other lights on every single criteria. you dont need any other. i have more than 200 flashlights. i always reach for this in all situations. that says a lot.
I have many flashlights, my wife says I have a flashlight problem. In my profession an everyday carry flashlight is a necessity. The EDC27 is my light! I purchased two of them over a year ago. One I use daily, the other is new in the box. Mine could be the first versions, since it’s came on in my pocket several times. It can do this if you forget to lock it. Mine does not have the reflective mode that tones down the lumens. And the 3000 lumens feature lasts a whole 10 seconds which is plenty of time to light up whatever is needed. In turbo mode this light is capable of starting tissues on fire. That’s why it’s limited. In fact the lense on my light has melted bubbles in the glass. Could be why they toned down the software in second version.
I've owned this flashlight for 8 months six of it doing maintenance. It works fine with no problems and no complaints. I also have the tip SE from them as well which is alot of light in a small package with a great battery.
As a dude with basically only rectangular lights, I much prefer the Arkfeld Pro for the size. I do use the UV and laser though so obvious advantage. Nitecore does make some interesting stuff though… like mosquito repellents lmao. Nice aerial shot too. It really gives some perspective!
Thanks for an excellent review. I especially like the drone shots and the description of distance in metres. Regarding the EDC 27. It has so much potential. I could even forgive the biilt-in battery. But what looks like a very flimsy charging port prevents it from being a realistic option for me.
i'm kinda disappointed you can't tailstand this. To me, that's essential in an EDC light. I like having something in my pocket that can act as a room light via ceiling bounce. Screw lamps. lol
Kind of agree. I use a Sofirn SC28 (great diffusing mirror ball reflector so no harsh glare) in my kitchen a lot as a great ceiling bounce light and in my den I use a Nicron B74 though I do like and use lamps also but for DIY that little Nicron with the swivel head is almost essential as you can tail stand it and also aim the beam. I also have a little 4000 lumen power house adjustable colour temp work light that I love for ceiling bounce in the bedroom. Should maybe be some vids about which lights that are best for ceiling bounce as some are much better than others.

Nice light! Almost as good as the RovyVon Angel Eyes E30 Pro. It has two buttons also, with tactical for strobe and floodlight, and multiple clicks of normal light switch. It has a battery display led of 4 units only. BUT it has an additional range of leds on the front for lighting (optional). Red soft, red strong, red flash, white soft, white strong, UV lamp for banknotes and other stuff.... That is a great flashlight worthwhile for review!
Will be getting this shortly so you can take this opinion as possibly premature. However, some of the common complaints are the lack of tail-stand featurre/magnet and short turbo time. Realistically, a light thus size cannot sustain high lumen output due to battery size and heat generation. To some extent the turbo is a marketing tool (I own an Imalent DX-80 that can go to 32,000 Lumens and can actually sustain for a while without frying your hand, but it's really a novelty at that intensity unless you do search and rescue). That being said, this is a purpose-built EDC light ideal for self-defense. I'm getting it for the form factor and rapid access to high lumen strobe (or turbo) as another less-lethal alternative to pepper spray, especially if you do concealed carry. Thr lock 1 feature should allow access without inadvertently turning on and burning your leg. Also, the lower settings, including the occasional 1000 Lumens, should provide enough duration for usual EDC tasks. We'll see how it works out but I'm optimistic.
I just don’t know how good *any* light is for self defense. Strobe will not deter an attacker. So I always look at lights like this from a “I’m on the job in a crawl space, how well would it perform” angle.
@@cheule I believe from what the experts say and my personal experience from being blinded by non-strobe lights at night that it will temporarily immobilize a potential attacker, giving a few seconds to retreat or resort to more lethal methods of defense.
I was suppose to buy this nitecore light but came across the olight sell by accident & purchased the arkfeld pro. 1 main selling point for me was the warm light option on the arkfeld pro. I purchase the green/zombie version which didnt come w the warm light option hahahah. Now im back at square 1. Going to purchase this nitrcore as well. I prefer the ui of tapping to switch lumen level vs holding on the button like on the arkfeld.
I purchased this and have had it less than a month. Loved the light until the mode button quit working properly. The half click stopped working within three weeks, and then it quit working all together. I did more research and found that this is a common issue. I am sending it off for a warranty repair. Hopefully, they get it fixed.
I like the form and shape it fits better in my pocket than the usual candle shaped body. My concern on EDC27 is the internal battery itself. In case I forgot to charge, I make sure to have a backup flashlight. Plus the capacity of 1700 mAh is not really that big also. It's good for EDC but as a work light not so sure.
say what you want about the battery and shape and emitters and the company, we need more lights with displays. Its what i love about my tini 2 and i might pick up this one as well
that's a general statement. most of these "slim fit" lights will not be replaceable battery from any brand. and even if you could, 9/10 times they discontinue the battery form factor long before you can start to notice wear on your current array of batteries for it. I've come to realize that most lithium battery lights that are replaceable are for hot swap function only. and less as "forever lights" because in that unrealistic world, you are chasing a fairy in reality. I own over 50 lights. I know this well. It's just like power tools. The idea is there, but the industry sells you lies and makes sure they do by changing the battery.
One of the NiteCore’s selling points it the 3000 lumen turbo mode. It lasts for only a very few seconds, not enough to be of any value. It seems almost dishonest to advertise it the way they do. It’s basically a 1000 max lumen light.
The turbo is useful, and only avail. If @~80% charged, or maybe 85, otherwise the turbo won’t work. That said this is a fantastic light, just put it on lock 1 in your pocket… the proximity sensor steps down which is great if it goes on in your pocket or too close to anything.
Looks great, thanks for the review. I'm put off by the battery not being replaceable. This isn't great for the environment and if used regularly, it would be good to be able to replace the battery with a new one. Unfortunately, I think this is common with this form factor.

I bought this. Absolutely love the light except that the lens has burn spots in it. Nitecore doesn't have replacement lens that I could purchase. I wish they had customer service like streamlight

MY hot take on "EDC" slim lights. We all use 3000 lumens (even 1000 lumens) as a novelty, but we all USE sub 500 lumens to see things in the dark when we're actually trying to do just that. Also, from a tactical perspective, the slim fit nature of the EDC27 and lights like it prove to be a disadvantage on the field for me, because I CANNOT feel that it's in my pocket, I lose my physical cue of "glanceless awareness" I've come to rely on my other slightly bigger lights I run equipped with (and not much bigger, I'm talking nitecore MT2A size.). This is also where I get into my 2nd point, I main an AA light (MT2A), despite owning many lithium lights. The glock-like quality of a good AA light is 2 fold. It's cheap to replace and dead reliable. Also very easy to find and replace AAs (If I ever get through my case of 42 Eneloops. probably never on any single journey. hell I never use more than 6. 2 in the hole, 4 in a carry case) I also suplement this with the T4K on my belt. This gives me the BEST size factor of spot beam and flood beam with the raw firepower of a 4000 lumen flood beam on my hip (1000 more than the EDC) while having the realistic practicality of the MT2A which I hastily pull out and use at any instance. Both of which can be carried daily without much change to silhouette, nor do I really have the need for a redundant slim form flood light thats worse than the t4K in performance. I almost forgot to say, that not being able to feel the EDC27 is there is actually a disadvantage. Since the slight "bump" you feel in the hip and pants gives you physical prompt that you indeed have your lights equipped while not being bothersome. Not knowing if it's there due to sheer compactness is worrying and you will constantly feel and check for it.

I've lost many things from my pockets simply by forgetting it's there. Feeling it helps in my case. I somewhat embraced the mall ninja aesthetic that holstered lights give at times. much like back in the day when we used to carry Motorola in a leather holster where now I'm constantly losing the smart phone because it's slim and out on the table in public spaces more often aswell.
Great review but I have a question regarding keychain lights related to the built in battery factor and I thought you were the guy to shed some 🔦on it. A keychain light is a backup for me so I won't use it a lot. I have a lumintop frog v1 that won't work and needs to be charged if I don't use it for a while. I'm aware 10180's have a tiny capacity but how long are they supposed to stay at around 3.7 if they are mechanically locked out? I didn't take note of how long it was (maybe a few months). It tested at 3.41 and at this rate if it's dead when I need it it's completely impractical regardless of output. My question is: if a 10180 discharge rate is a question of capacity why is it that an olight i1R or an acebeam m50 with internal battery seem to last forever on a single charge and will fire up no matter how long you haven't used them? TIA
This is a really good question, that I’m not sure I entirely can answer. A li-ion battery at storage charge should last a long time without use. I.e. if you store it at 3.8, it should be maybe 3.7 about 6 months later. That’s assuming it’s physically locked out of course. And I’m thinking primarily of 18350 or 18650 cells I work with most. The tiny 10140 battery in the frog might behave differently, but I don’t think that’s what’s going on. I think what’s actually going on is that when you go to charge an 80mAh battery, even at very low charge rates the voltage rises quickly and the battery hits voltage cutoff. If you were discharging, the load on the battery would similarly drop the voltage faster than larger capacity batteries. Of course intelligent charges hit CV mode near the end of charge, and that should solve this problem, right? Not entirely. They have amperage cutoffs too, which are generally hard wired. Meaning that when the CV current hits perhaps 10mA or maybe 15mA, the charger concluded that charging has finished. This might cause your very small 10140 to not really be at the SOC you think it’s at. This is just one hypothesis. Another is that the battery that Lumintop included is of poor chemistry (I think it might be) and the battery has a higher than normal self-discharge rate. I think the best keychain lights are the ones that take alkaline AAA, then I buy the single use lithium 1.5v AAA batteries. They have a guaranteed 10 year life.
Just got mine, damn near impossible to figure it out. Reminds me of when trail cams first came out button action is lack luster at best, instructions definitely not written by someone whose first language is English. Have yet see the screen info show up per the instructions would indicate they should, no big deal the screen is too tiny to read anyway. But have managed to get it locked up and can't get it unlocked LOL in the bottom draw it goes, hope it doesn't set anything on fire. If you're into items that should be simple but are way more complicated than they ever should be, get two!
my first EDC27 turbo broke, then the lights stopped working, the 2nd one fell out my back pocket and broke, i had both working fine for 2 months then broke on me
I'm sorry but this flashlight has flaws. This is the 2nd light that burned my leg I lock switch 1 because the switch sticks out and leave the turbo unlocked. Cool design poor implementation.
Would it be possible for something like this to have a Clock on it as well I mean if there’s already a little computer in there couldn’t they just add a Clock for the heck of it? I mean the way things are going they might as well add an MP3 player with Bluetooth for wireless headphones. It’s going to happen eventually even if it’s a gimmicky Chinese brand. 😂
@@cheule yeah, I mean realistically an iPhone is just a big MP3 player with a flashlight that’s just really weak. So they could easily flip it and add whatever they wanted to a really bright flashlight. As long as the components are small enough to fit on a flashlight, so it’s not too bulky, but if you think back to like the iPod nano, it was pretty small and if all they had to do was add a bigger battery and an LED to it it could’ve had a flashlight as well.

Still too big for me as far as an EDC goes. For that I went Nebo Slim Mini. Its much smaller but still puts out a ton of light and rechargeable.

I like this one but I remember people complaining about something wrong with it and so never bought it. But the format I love for carry.

The new version doubled the candela and improved the tint ever so slightly. The new emitters are also a round die now, making for a pretty nice beam.

I hear you, but it labeled turbo so I don’t think it’s dishonest. Turbo almost always indicates “use sparingly”

I own several, but I didn’t compare them because I think they’re not comparable. I say in the video that they’re for different people entirely.

The 15 lumen mode as the lowest is a total killer. Need 1 lumen or less as an option on an EDC

Reminds me of when trail cams first came out button action is lack luster at best, instructions definitely not written by someone whose first language is English. Have yet see the screen info show up per the instructions would indicate they should, no big deal the screen is too tiny to read anyway. But have managed to get it locked up and can't get it unlocked LOL in the bottom draw it goes, hope it doesn't set anything on fire.
If you're into items that should be simple but are way more complicated than they ever should be, get two!
my first EDC27 turbo broke, then the lights stopped working, the 2nd one fell out my back pocket and broke, i had both working fine for 2 months then broke on me

I have not, it’s a very good duty cycled light. Oversized, underpowered, and I love it.
What was the candela
A measurement of how far the light throws, the distance it will illuminate

It’s not! But on my equipment it was calibrated inside the tube itself to be so. So on my meter 1:1.
I'm sorry but this flashlight has flaws. This is the 2nd light that burned my leg I lock switch 1 because the switch sticks out and leave the turbo unlocked. Cool design poor implementation.

No disagreement here. This is definitely not one of my top picks. But I can’t deny the light has an avid following.
Would it be possible for something like this to have a Clock on it as well I mean if there’s already a little computer in there couldn’t they just add a Clock for the heck of it? I mean the way things are going they might as well add an MP3 player with Bluetooth for wireless headphones. It’s going to happen eventually even if it’s a gimmicky Chinese brand. 😂
That’s an interesting idea. I don’t know if the ICs generally used in flashlights have internal clocks.
@@cheule yeah, I mean realistically an iPhone is just a big MP3 player with a flashlight that’s just really weak. So they could easily flip it and add whatever they wanted to a really bright flashlight. As long as the components are small enough to fit on a flashlight, so it’s not too bulky, but if you think back to like the iPod nano, it was pretty small and if all they had to do was add a bigger battery and an LED to it it could’ve had a flashlight as well.
