Thanks for sharing this. I just started working as a school nurse first time in my nursing career and also first time working possible with diabetic children and diabetic pumps. This is very helpful coming from a parent who is a nurse and more importantly, a mother who knows and understands both sides of taking care of our precious children while in school. Your other videos are helpful also. Blessings to you and family.

Really good video Erica, you are such a good parent. When I was diagnosed 57 years ago at age six, I had none of these aids. Only shots (and the syringe had to be boiled every day!). It's a miracle I made it through school without a significant problem.
Like your daughter, I am now sporting a Tandem pump and Dexcom sensor. My last A1C was 5.8 and I have lost 25 lbs. since starting the Tandem six months ago. I wish all the best for your girl--I believe she is going to rock this world!

This is really great! I had a student with Type I a few years ago. He was recently diagnosed and was intermittently homeless, so we had virtually nothing for him but insulin. The nurse and I took turns buying snacks and testing strips (which we obviously didn’t need to do, but we weren’t going to let him suffer because his mother was unable to get the supplies to us.) I learned to help him test, kept juice in the fridge and snacks in our emergency bag. I can tell you exactly how many goldfish crackers you can have for 15 carbs! He didn’t have a CGM or pump until a year or two later, but the pump rarely had insulin in it and the CGM was rarely changed. (No judgement. The mother and I were super close. I taught two of her kids. This was just the situation.) My point is, as a teacher, I really appreciate how much you are willing to work with the school and make sure everyone is comfortable, while doing the absolute best for your daughter! Well done, Mom! ❤

I can pull my daughters blood sugar up on my Apple Watch from her dexcom and I don’t have to have my phone. Don’t know if that helps you

Hydrogen peroxide takes out blood stains. You may have to rinse and repeat a few times but it really works.

Such a great video Erica😍 I just prepared Jared’s Diabetes School Kit using some of your tips.
Unfortunately Jared doesnt have a Scholl Nurse too and this year he will have a nee teacher, I just hope that the teacher will cooperate as well, cuz I heard already some story where teacher’s don’t want to have a responsability regarding an illness😔So finger’s crossed that this school year will be a great one😊
You are such a great Mom for taking care of your family.
Will maybe do a Instagram Story too😍

How could a school not have a school nurse? Unless I could set up the situation exactly the way she did in the video with everyones cooperation I would not be able to send my child to a school without a nurse. I am a mom of a t1d been advocating for him at school since age 7 he's now 14. It never gets easier even with a nurse always trust your gut and make sure every thought for your child is understood by that school because like she said this is their life.
