No, no...you have to hit "S" for a few seconds to back up, then you have to push the "Shift" key. It's all very complicated.
Actually, I like playing arty...it's kind of like veeled wheicles. Lots of fun and idiocy occurs, the hate pours down, and then you die. Good times.

@@Winner3ty I disagree for a couple of reasons. First, Arty is an actual thing, whereas veeled wheicles pretty much defy physics in every conceivable way. Also, one or at max 2 arty per side changes your strategy without making an entire class of tank useless, unlike veeled wheicles, which make most light tanks pointless. I'm not saying they should get rid of either, necessarily, but arty at least have a place in the game. Veeled wheicles are a cancer to play against (and hilarious to play, actually).

Don't get me wrong, I don't like 3 arty games as it is currently either. First I would make it a max of 2 arty per game. Second, I think WG made the wrong move when they made arty do consistent amount of damage in smaller doses with the addition of stun and a larger burst radius. Arty should be more like it was in the old days with high damage but horrible accuracy, aim time and small burst radius. Sure you had times when you would one shot tanks but more often than not you would miss and do some or almost no damage. Back then arty had more skill to it as well since you could be a thousand times more influential if you predicted and pre-aimed in the correct spot. Not to mention that it was much harder to hit moving targets so aggressive action was less punished (by arty at least). Nowadays, the most juicy arty targets are actually lightly armored fast tracked tanks. Anything not EBR is relatively easy to hit with the way arty currently works.

@@knyazsvyatoslav9271 I play EBR 90. I get hit by arty when I am on full speed even tho I do zig zags. Most of the time I get focused cuz they hate EBRs. Sometimes every arty tries to kill me instead of focusing heavy tanks. It is a mad house.

What would also fix arta:
-Remove stun
-Remove the toxic XVM
Got a better idea, remove their ability to see all spotted players on the map, give light tanks flares which they can fire and illuminate areas both for artillery and themselves, give artillery smoke shells where they get assistance for all the enemy damage missed by shots that didn't connect/pen so they actually serve a purpose for the rest of the team beyond siphoning damage and kill-stealing. It won't be pretty at first, but players will soon realise that the less you help your own arty the more of a disadvantage you and your team are in and the less inclined arty will be to cover your ass if your flank folds, plus arty can see it's own players actions and blind-shot suspected areas even on an unco-operative team. It also gives light tanks a purpose beyond late-game plays in a meta where heavies, meds and TDs can max out and have the same viewrange as lights.
Edit: maybe allow artillery to also see enemies within the same normal radio-range as every normal tank has, as a compromise - that way the players at least have to find their w key and won't have quite as dumb a shell drop on tanks behind cover.

Remove them entirely from the game, compensate owners with free xp.

@@justthunderbolt40 Okay, forewarning I haven't played WoT for a little while so I may miss some details of the patches.
To address your first point, currently in the game for people to deal damage they almost always have to spot the target first which marks the target for artillery as well who can quite happily choose to hold off their shot until they can steal the kill, which means even as a teammate they can hamper you - let alone from the enemy's perspective where having your tank essentially disabled midway through a firefight from a source you could not predict is increadibly frustrating (let when you get focused by arty and get 100-0'd as that match's sacrificial cow).
By making the ability to show enemies voluntary you not only hand more tactical agency over to the frontline players but you also force them to recognise the contribution of artillery (ergo if one side spots for their artillery and the other - out of hatred - chooses not to, then they will most likely loose, which over time will teach most of the playerbase that it's a good idea to be a team player) and also incentivises the artillery to help their team rather than abuse the power that game mechanics have given them to farm damage/kills on unimportant targets. Given that both sides will be incentivised to help one another it means a mutually beneficial relationship is formed on the team-side rather than the current abusive one. It also creates a symbotic partnership between light tanks and artillery which can foster the kind of moments of genuine humanity which make online games truly special - as well as giving light tanks that can't circle-strafe people to death a greater purpose in the game.
From the perspective of an enemy, knowing that having a flare fired at you means that the sky-gods are liable to punish you gives you a little warning and thus greater agency to protect yourself through manouvres. This ability to proactively protect yourself would engender less hatred than the current situation where you're fine until you're not, and when you're not; you're screwed. It also decreases the reliance on positioning in one of the few artillery safe places on the map - which is currently one of the greatest causes of stale gameplay and camping because everyone knows to try to head to those positions else you'll get dunked on like a midget playing basketball with Lebron James. Thus the proposed changes would open up the maps and enable plays that currently would be a straight death sentence - and it would punish campers more consistently than the current system, as artillery players are forced to focus entrenched target that has been lit up rather than try to 100-0 a lightly armoured tank that's screwing around in a field.
For artillery players, it's pretty likely that the changes would reduce the overall shots fired per game as you can't just sit and click whenever you're reloaded, but that change gives more time to reposition and moreover is likely to result in a series of buffs to artillery which could make good matches where your team co-operates with you become signifincantly more lucrative than they are currently. Also, the top-down view artillery players get can allow them to see map clutter getting knocked down/destroyed, and seeing where your allied tanks are shooting/communicating with your allies where your shots land can allow you to blind-fire enemies even if your light tanks are dead/unhelpful, giving another element of skill to artillery play, and making players more thoughtful about where they drive and the lines they take. The ability to fire smoke as well also means you can both protect your light tanks better (by obscuring their approach/covering their retreat) but also could help/save other tank types as well, making them actually thankful to artillery players - as opposed to the current system where most arty players are seen as nuisances and at best, a pox upon both houses.
As for your final point complaining that arty are slow and unarmoured, there are a number of fast SPGs, there are even one or two that have a surprising amount of armour (e.g. Conqueror GC). There are also a number of slow and/or poorly armoured one-shottable tanks in the game too (especially to high-alpha tanks like KV-2 and the 183 guns), and unlike SPGs they have to survive without a unique mechanic that allows them to pop targets over cover from half the map away without line-of-sight. That last part is key, because however bad your tank is, however good your tank is - you need line of sight, and as such cover can... well, cover the weaknesses or improve the strengths of your vehicle using skill, foresight and tactical awareness - all qualities which the current arty system (unlike literally any other role in the game) ignores; to the detriment of everyone.

Tbh, there were games with 10+ arta before the cap and even missions. Some will stick to them regardless of missions. As besides the spike when the new missions sets came, it goes back to normal rather fast I suspect for that to matter in the long run.

@@Balc0ra 10 arties? The most disgusting fact is when WG released WoT Classic, the most played class was arty. I was myself with a T30 and there were up to 11 arties PER TEAM, that's how disgusting the game was and the worst thing was the AP rounds and the HE rounds were fired with the SAME SPEED, so it only took 1 second for both ammo to reach my tank. Yeap, a full HP T30 blown up to bits by 2 shots from arty with HE or maybe even 1 AP Shell that would literally ammorack me.

How to promote less static playstyle for heavies (which are countered by pretty much every other tank type/special ammo/mobility):
* Buff spall liners to afford more protection from HE (as well as making it reduce stun duration).
* Implement a reusable equipment that buffs natural armor for a limited time on a recharge. This could be everything from tree logs and sandbags up to reactive armor.
VK 100.01 P > MAUS anyday. At least it got scary gun for its tier and especially for T6's and it got way better armor than Maus for it's tier aswell. VK 100 is legitimately scary at T8.
It's one of the best tanks to sidescrappe and really good to get missions done for both Campaigns.

I´m too stupid to play Arta properly (ONLY for the missions). It´s the worst class in my statistic. Thank the lord, that Mr. Skill give me this very helpfull lesson. Soon I can be a dirty clicker too. :D
The second campaign missions are the worst.. You need at least 4 arties from 4 different nations to do them all, which forces players to grind even more arties. At least we can get the S-51 without playing any other arty.

Left this game somewhere in 2017. Updated my client and played a battle yesterday. Guess WG was thrilled to see me back and as a welcome gift they gave me a battle with 3 arty's per side. Played the battle, closed the client and went to play something more fun.

Yesterday had a game on Malinovka in 263 , no arta, made 6k dmg, 5 kills, if there was at least 1 I would not be able to do a third of that..

Firing gold rounds with the biggest splash (tied with the T92 gold round) on one of the few maps small enough for it to hit the far side. The bigger issue is the T5 and T6 arty hitting for the same damage at a faster firing rates.

1.6 made it so you need at least medium graphic to see tracers. If you play on low, you wont see them :/

i think arta would be better as a kind of consumeable or "special ammo" thing for some of the light tanks.
Whenever I see someone getting hit by arty this often, I remember my arty battles where I miss 80% of the shots on standing heavy tanks. Something is wrong or I'm really bad with arty.

I have long since past the point where any of my feedback is considered not to be tinfoil hatted rants and don't care any more. 3 arty per side is bonkers and bad for wot. Two or less per side is unanimously agreed upon to be a better solution, even if the wait time increases. Note that Wargaming already agrees with this notion in Frontlines and even in Grand Battles, where the max ratio of arty to real players is 1/10 and 1/6 accordingly. They simply overstack pub matches with an untenable 1/5 ratio that frequently hits 3 per match per side. I understand that the class is a least common monitor type that is geared towards a demographic that may be unskilled, but without a doubt it is also enjoyed by semi skilled or even highly skilled sociopaths who employ an easy to use and powerful mechanic to disrupt matches and cause discontent. I think we can make some minor adjustments to the class so that there are less of them without gutting the class. Let's be reasonable and toe the line that two or less arty per side is something we want, despite the boogeyman mentality that it will either increase wait time or reduce the amount of zero arty per game matches. It is also worth mentioning that there are plenty of low skill options in this game, and reducing the amount of unhappiness that arty causes still lends players with less ability to have very easy times in many other alternatives less detrimental to the overall health of wot.
This is for that reason i love td with turret, because you can hide from arty in a bush and do something... I love play with medium, but sometime you are eated alive and your team dont accept you hide in a bush. So its a long dead...

About artas, yes, I think there should be a maximum of two per side, even one.
However, I don't agree with your assesment about how easy it is to play arta. If you don't pay attention you don't get shots, and some reload times AND aiming times are so slow that you shoot 9-10 shots if you are lucky. I play an M53/55 consistently, with the small gun, and to properly support your team you have to be very focused and move around to get the proper angles. Not all maps are open areas.
while you are right there is one thing to remember. to have good impact on battle you dont need to be skilled as guy who have good impact in medium or light
@@eleklenardsebescan7663 Nobody would argue with that, I think. It doesn't require to be on top as much as any other class, but it can also be played very badly, and that doesn't help getting victories.
Lots of players play this as a single player game. I try to play as a team. It's almost impossible many times, but sometimes you find players that can coordinate with you, and that's fantastic. It's a rare 10% of the times, though.

OMG skills. I've always advocated "play arty to know arty", but that demonstration was crazy. lol I so agree that 3 arty in a game is ridiculous. I can deal with 2, but 1 is best.
That blind, snap-shot on arta = FREAKING PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got a idea to fix arty and make it better for the game:
whenever a arty shoots it gets marked on the map for enemy arty and the 3D model is rendered for a certain time (without nametags and markers though)
the mark on the map gets more and more accurate the longer the arty stays in one spot, and eventually (lets say 5 shots without moving) it gets marked on the map for other tankers.
this means there is a arty vs arty gameplay and each arty has to move every few shots, or it gets counter batteried by enemy arty. (realistic)
this mechanic was the core of the arty gameplay in Armored warfare and it made it much more difficult to do well in arty.
on top of that I would change the ammo arty gets:
it gets 3 HE rounds:
- The normal HE round with impact fuze and a slightly lower blast radius and no stun, this round does the same damage as old arty does.
- a Airburst with HUGE blast radius that detonates like 10m over the ground and stuns everything in a large area without doing damage (to do ANY damage the enemy would have to be right below the explosion, it does estra damage vs open top vehicles though)
- HE with delayed fuzing that has high penetration and a super small blast radius (like 10% of the original, because it digs deep into the ground)
on top I would add 2 more ammo options:
- smoke rounds
- illumination rounds
to make all rounds more viable I also would reduce the time to "swap ammo" to 1/4 the normal reload time (imagine the arty crew just changing the setting on the fuze of the round and puting it back in)
100% agree that there must be a limit of perhaps 1 art per team as it can otherwise be completely disabling for all other players. And I believe (similar to me) a lot of players are forced to play clickers because of the missions - otherwise I would never engage in playing with such a boring type of vehicle...

When I read the title I hoped this video was about arty, when video started I was like " oh I guess he just means heavy tanks?" Then it happened. Was not disappointed.

Wargaming has limited arty to 4 in Grand Battles where there are 26 tanks but in randoms there 3 arties and 12 tanks and the map is also significantly smaller. WG is completely aware that 2 and 3 arties for randoms is overkill but they don't do anything, Why?
Because with less arties there's much less need to use consumables and much less necessity for a premium account. Just pay attention next time you get shot by arty, Ammo rack+driver+gunner and loader are gone. That's 4 consumables right there or 2 premium consumables which you wouldn't need to use if it wasn't for arty.

I absolutely agree with you, the amount of artillery is too much and ruin the gaming experience.
Just a critique on the summary screen all arty shots look like single shots unless you pen. Your stun count on the Patton means you hit him 3 times for a total of 1,475 (491 avg per shot) not one shot for that much.
I think that only way to balance arty is to make them have limited range of fire so uf they want to play they have to hit and run not just spawn sitting. For example 400 meter fire range so you will have to stand 200 meters behind your front line like td.
Thinking about to get rid of my e75 and grind the maus line from tiger p on instead of grinding through the e75 for the e100. Opinions? Worth it or not? Or should i wait with it till they rebalanced the e100 tree? *cough*
