One of the biggest thrills I had as a child in the mid 1950's was seeing Cab Calloway perform live. And of course, he sang "Minnie the Moocher". Now in my 70's, I've never forgotten it.
HOW DARE YOU TEASE A FELLOW ! ha ha I'd LOVE to go back in time he's one of my 3 favorites from the era ! Let's not forget Fats Waller and Louis Jordan though !!!
I've always had the impression that the 50s and 60s were a great time to be alive. My Grandfathers both served in WWII, lived to tell war stories, you're my Dad's age. Six bucks filled up a land yacht and you went cruising.
@@Jordyn-ec7nh - Actually, I was born in the late 1940's. I remember watching Flash Gordon serials at the movie theater. CocaCola was 5 cents a bottle. I vividly remember tipping over in my highchair when I was still in diapers. We moved out of that house when I was 4 years old. I haven't been back since, but I still remember the floor plan of that house. Some of us old geezers are still mentally sharp. 😉
My parents took me to see and hear him at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, N. Y. when I was 8 or 9. I am now 88. It is a treat to watch him again on CZcams.
I saw The Blues Brothers film (original) in 1980, and became a fan of Mr. Calloway. Of course as a result of his performance of this song. RIP sir, and thank you.
I saw cab calloway in 1977 do a one-man show. I have been a fan now since that childhood visit. I absolutely love him. I may have grown up in the wrong era. I think I was supposed to be born in the 1940's
@gregorysnapplecock8163all of the old music from back in the day are better than today's music their is still some good music today but it doesn't compare to the music from back in the day.
The Legendary Cab Callaway in his Earliest years hard to comprehend he would live to 87 in 1994 when he passed away 🎶🥁🎹🎺🎸🎷Love Minnie the Moocher 😂😂😂😂😂❤Take me back even though I was born in 1973 back to these times when he was doing iconic tunes like this ,Only one Cab Callaway,No one can beat his talent ❤❤❤
I feel like you would've learned who he is much later in life by happenstance. He's a living legend, beyond the Blues Brothers. That said, BB was the first time I heard Minnie the Moocher.
I only knew this reat Man from the Movie "The Blues Brothers"! He was so good as the Foster Father of Jake and Elwood aka Day Aykroyd and John Belushi!
What a class act… sure do miss the old days…how things have changed…😢but.. I suppose every generation feels the same of their own…. Just sayin …. LOVE ❤️ THE OLD DAYS
Brothers moving really did this justice. Both spot on perfect. Btw 2:22 one of the earliest televised memes/trolls haha, this man's a genius even post mortem.
I learned about Mr. Calloway thanks to The Blue Brothers movie. He was an amazing talent that transcended race and culture. He was just pure, fun entertainment. We need that kind of talent today, instead of the slime on the music scene.
He was good friends with Bumpy Johnson, the original Harlem gangster, so I am sure he had access to all kinds of fun substances. He was also known to associate with Redd Foxx and Malcolm X. Regarding psychedelics, I am not certain if Cab partook, but he definitely was a fan of the white lady (cocaine). In fact, one of the lyrics to "Minnie the Moocher" goes as follows: She hung around with a bloke named Smokey She loved him though he was cokey.
this is what i want parsed through every AI filter possible - i want to see this in perfect 4k and hear it in crystal clear red book. come on, someone get to restoring the past!

If I were a time traveler. I would go back to the 1930s. Just to see Cab Calloway perform live. WOW! That would truly be a fantastic voyage!!!
Moi aussi
You don’t have to BigBob. He’s right here on CZcams & Google. Enjoy
Same
What a showman. I think this was filmed in 1958. He's 51 years old in this and moves like a man half that age.
My parents took me to see and hear him at the Eastman Theater in Rochester, N. Y. when I was 8 or 9. I am now 88. It is a treat to watch him again on CZcams.
Ładny wiek. Pozdrawiam.

I've never seen someone who embodies pure joy more than Cab Calloway.
Wow! Real stage presence. So much fun!
What a talent! Cab still dazzles after all these years! Xxxx
Cab Calloway didn’t take a backseat even to Al Jolson. Jolson demanded that Cab be treated as an equal.
Two of the best entertainers ever.
The Legendary Cab Callaway in his Earliest years hard to comprehend he would live to

Эй, подружка, мне 69 я балдею от Кэба!
Cab Calloway is absolutely timeless.
One of the great showmen! What a great generation! What a legend, Mr. Calloway was!
The man with the most energy in entertainment and art and music
Their will never be anybody as great as the CAB.
It's in Stormy weather(1943), such a wonderful film.
what a bright talented artist!
If this does not entertain and make you smile, you have no soul 🙃
Verdade👍
Your mother has no soul.
Totally agree. It's one of those performances that turns a bad day into a good one. Cheers!
I use that term all the time, NO SOUL AND NO ABILITY TO SPOT TALENT !!!
I really really wish I could have seen him perform back in the 1930s.
Me walking to the kitchen to get snacks at 2 am: 0:20
Thanks to Dan Akroyd and John Belushi, I learned who Cab was, back in 1980. Otherwise i would have never known.
I feel like you would've learned who he is much later in life by happenstance. He's a living legend, beyond the Blues Brothers.
That said, BB was the first time I heard Minnie the Moocher.
He is so much fun to watch perform! And i love the song

Aren't we fortunate to have lived back then when life was simple & wholesome? I miss those days, too.
a real performer
If only he was still alive. I would’ve loved to see him in person! The people who got to are so lucky!
Brilliant.
My dad used to sing this song when my aunt, who was a schemer, came over. :)
Baltimore royalty!
1933, QUE BELLA EPOCA. MI PADRE APENAS TENIA CUATRO AÑOS. ESA MUSICA FUE PARTE DE MEXICALI, BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO. Y DE TIJUANA TAMBIEN.

Ain't I glad there is CZcams
I remember this being in The Blues Brothers.
WOW!
He moves like a guy that's use hallucinogens.
He was good friends with Bumpy Johnson, the original Harlem gangster, so I am sure he had access to all kinds of fun substances. He was also known to associate with Redd Foxx and Malcolm X.
