Great reaction! You should definitely do a reaction to the live version of this. It's just Ren and Chinchilla in a hallway with a guitar. The two of them have this amazing chemistry and power to make you feel like you're not alone in the struggles so many of us are going through. And somehow, the two of them by themselves, stripped down and raw, is so much more powerful. Also, check out Ren and Chinchilla performing "How to Be Me (live)". I long for more collaborations between these two. Also check out Chinchilla by herself doing "Fingers (live)" and "Cold Water (live)". Keep up the great reactions!

Massively different than the live version. They're both good, but for me, the live version is far more powerful. Will be there if you choose to react to that one too.
Nah, the live version buries the studio version to the ground. The studio version doesn't have the rawness, and it's overproduced, they added shit the song didn't need at all.
Lovely reaction.....but PLEASE please do the LIVE version. It is outstanding! You will love it. Ren is one of those rare artists that sound better live than recorded. He is a musical genius despite his suffering with mental and physical health. He should be protected. He is in Canada at the moment recieving treatment for years of damage done by the wrong medications.

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person.
First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it
that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen
by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity
towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through bullying all through school
to the point i attempted suicide twice, I am a recovering alcoholic 11 years clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so
the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt with i may have had a reasonable life not the
existence i have to deal with now
Great reaction both! Ren is a total chameleon and just becomes whatever music he performs, Chinchilla is the same and the chemistry between them is incredible. It is lost in this lyric version for obvious reasons so even if you do not react to it take a look at the live version as it is worth the watch. All the best from the UK

Thank you both. These songs are such an inspiration to talk about what needs to be talk about. This was a beautiful interpretation. You heard his singing Voice in Violet's Tale, but that is completely servant to the message. Can I recommend his songs 'It's Alright' and 'Humble'? They are both beautiful and hopeful. A wonderful counterpart. And if you want to see him not so heavy, then try out Love Music 1,2,3. They are pure joy.

Hey Ginger, I really hope you found your health and your bliss. And I think it's high time you see a happier song by Ren. Oh yes he has happier songs, believe it or not, LOL. One of them is "Ren Humble feat. Eden Nash". And another one of Ren and the band he used to be in is "The Big Push Bongo Bong Manu Chao cover". I'm sure both of them will paint a big smile on your face.

I agree with everyone else saying to check out the live version. I love both versions equally, because this version has absolutely beautiful strings, but the live version also has so much genuine emotion and vocal talent in it. I think you'll love hearing these two singing live.

are for sound quality but Rens is always good. This version is good but the live version will give

ngl didnt know this was Ren til tonight. heard before and finally caught back up on it. past years been "hi ren" state, he wrote the anthem. thanks to family and a very select few this title is familiar but not "relevent" but brings back things i hadnt thought of in weeks. friends/family/close ones lost over the years.. im one of the lucky ones. im still here. but im also unlucky as im still here while they arent.

Thank you, Mike & Ginger, for reacting to my favourite version of the song. I have only bumped into one other before yours. It is not that I don't like the live version, that one is just hauntingly beautiful, but this version fills the purpose of starting a long needed conversation about our use of drugs, which I also think was Ren's intention. The dissonances and the distorted sounds in this version help push the message. And in this version I can't turn a blind eye to the questions he raises about all the reasons of why, for who's benefit, and what it does do to us as individuals and human beings, in and outside of human relationships, to use drugs the way we currently do. In order to be able to face all threats that lies ahead, we need access to the part of us inside the chalk outlines. For a while I had hopes that some of the reactors I usually visit, that often do double reactions of the same song, had done this with this masterpiece, but they hadn't. So, Ginger, Thank You! 💐so, so much for your thoughts, I could see how you hurt, but know that they meant a lot to me, being in a position that have experiences from ALL angles, except the beneficiaries of this big tragedy. You are a truly rare and beautiful flower (or moth?) that doesn't shy away from controversial subjects. I can understand Mikes deep respect and love for you...

Suffering from depersonalization, I know the chalk outlines very well: From the outside.
Suffering from depression, the line: "I am scared of being Okay cause all things change" is something I know very well. Unfortunately. "Being Okay" is something so rare, that the fear of loosing it is even stronger than feeling happy about feeling Okay.
As others have written already: The live version (another one take video) is even more impressive.

me and a very good and close friend both know this one, we can sit and sing along, together, to vent but we have eachother so it stays at venting. we both know why how and when the other get there and we just keep up together. im happy i have someone i can share the lyrics with. one who understand and is there. Ginger im sorry its very heavy text but trust me, the sharing of it helps even for one as lost and gone as i am. too many memories regarding it. but this song also is a connection to one person who understand me and we help eachother.
"So many years taking pills to feel normal, and it never worked" - If I've learned anything it's that a common issue can be found in the average person's perception of "normal" when in reality, "normal" doesn't exist past skin-deep. The way you feel about any given thing, the way you perceive the people and world around you, it's always going to be different then the next person. I truly believe (to a healthy extent) he absence of normality is what makes up Identity. Otherwise we'd all have evolved to be the same. Moral of that story, it's OK NOT TO FEEL NORMAL! I guarantee everyone struggles with the feeling of normalcy, and the irony is if we all feel this way who's really normal? Well, whoever is defining normal at that moment time.

How did this version even show up when you searched for it.
Emotions are a chemical reaction in the brain and different emotions are the release of different chemicals and like any chemical release in the brain, it can become addictive and a habit and we end up chasing the thing that gives us that chemical hit, we get given drugs to inhibit those chemical releases or to create other chemical releases and we then get addicted to those chemicals and like with anything bad for us our body becomes acclimated to it and it requires a larger dose to have the same effect, so it’s a slippery slope.
When we have negative thoughts/emotions, we get addicted to it and it becomes a bad habit and we spiral down the negative mental attitude cycle.
The only real way to get out of that spiral is with a positive mental attitude, which like kicking any addiction, you have to break the habit first so even when you are having negative thoughts/emotions, you have to have a positive mental attitude and trick yourself into being positive so you stop creating the negative chemicals and start rewiring your mindset and forming a new habit of being positive. The longer you have had a habit the longer in general it is going to take to break that habit and form a new habit. Often people replace one bad habit with another and get addicted to something else that is bad for you.
The best habit to replace a bad habit with is a good habit, something positive, whether that’s exercise, meditation, yoga, gardening, swimming, walking in the countryside, petting animals, spending quality time for your kids, etc
There are things that produce positive chemicals and there are things that produce negative chemicals, our brains are very susceptible to imbalances in chemicals.
The best medicine is having a positive mental attitude, even when you are having negative thoughts, get into the habit of forcing yourself to think positive. Fake it till you make it if you have to. Wake up every day and tell yourself 5 things you are grateful for in your life and do the same thing before you go to sleep, little things like that can make all the difference. It really is about making having a positive mental attitude a habit and if you feel yourself becoming negative, shut it down and don’t let it consume you and allow it to become a habit.
Medication can be a bandaid but they should never be used as a crutch.
Medication should be like when your car breaks down and you need a push start to get it going, you shouldn’t be relying on someone pushing your car while you’re sat in it as the solution, that’s not a productive solution to your car breaking down
also to understand you must watch Hi Ren by Ren before u can understand why hes so great! why he was brought light to music again!
