Is it fair to SPOILER that the beauty of "How to Be Me" tanks in the very last seconds because of the sorry end of the story?
I feel that when you know to expect the well-prepared "surprise", you'll appreciate the whole experience much more, and not end up all devastated as I did.
Pleading and beseeching (for understanding and connection?) were the words that came to me.
The way that they are so connected during this song is phenomenal. The audio is done only with his lapel mic. (you can really hear the gain increase when she starts) But to be so aware of how close the other person is and how loud they're singing so you match. There's no way to adjust between two mics after the fact when there's just that one single one.
Ren has talked about the derealization effect of the different medications they had him on. For me, the chalk outline represents what's left when the body is gone.

For another great intimate duet, I'd suggest Ren song Crutch ft Bibi. For a happy duet, Ren has two songs with Eden Nash called Humble and Ocean that both have a nice ska vibe.
Awesome reaction as always! For me Chalk Outlines has to do with antidepressants. Especially how they just kill every feeling. It helped my PTSD after I got out of the military and worked for a few months but then made me even more suicidal and I just didn't care about anything. Then the brain zaps started. The VA didn't want to take me off them and literally wrote be a script for Vicodin haha. I know my brain was broken but opiates weren't the way to go. So I weened myself off of everything. And im no longer a zombie and feeling like the walking dead!
Chinchilla Fingers Live for Hunger TV is an amazing performance and a must watch. Ocean by Ren is beautiful. Loving your reactions and this particular track is definitely one of my top 3 tracks of the year!
Ren and Chin Are Complimentary Defined
Great reaction. I think the video hint at something 'supernatural' going on when the lights flicker. We see it just before Ren discovers the guitar and then again just before we are introduced to Chinchilla crouched in the corner.
The Ren x Chinchilla song that I love is Beyonce/Drake One dance where they are busking (live on the street with minimal equoment) on a corner in Brighton - You've got some great insights into music Lynzi, keep going!
The key to the song is Chinchilla's first verse, it's not about addiction only it's also about how prescriptions lead to addiction and then the cure for addictions is another prescriptions all of this hoisted upon people that may have been misdiagnosed in the first place. (looking at the face of your costar helps denote the intensity of what's to come). Thank you for reacting to Ren, blessings from Puerto Rico.
My interpretation of this song/video is as follows: what you're seeing on screen are Ren and Chinchilla's consciousness'. Both their bodies are elsewhere (maybe a mental hospital bc of their clothes and the location). My reasoning is firstly as Ren walks down the corridor you hear muffled voices in the background as if that's the outside world that he can now barely hear (he's dissociated). Ren has reatreated into his own mind thanks to whatever medication he's been given. Outside remains his body...a mere zombie. As he moves along he sees papers and folders and is pleasantly surprised by some. To me these are some old memories he has stored away along with his guitar.but hasn't 'seen' in a while. Later, Chinchilla arrives, not aware of Ren at first, going through her own experience just like Ren duringhis first verse. Notice during both their arrivals, the lights flicker just like when a ghost is about to turn up in some horror film. Then, they both suddenly find eachother's gaze and share their experiences with eachother but although being the same (same lyrics) are slighty different to them (sung slightly differently). At the end, the light turns off so I assume the medication wore off and they're both back in their bodies.
Love your interpretation. It makes me appreciate this even more.

"discovering Ren again" - that's what we're all here for, I think. I can't ever watch these pieces of art for the first time, ever again - but I can get at least a *little* of that, in some voyeuristic way, through someone else's eyes. And when it comes with a side-order of "context from someone else's expertise/experience", it's even better.

“On the gallows, balanced on my toes so I can breath.” This is one of my favourite lines from “Chalk Outlines” as it describes exactly how I felt on most days, when I barely coped with what life threw at me. It conveys just that horrible precarious sense of wobbling when something negative happens, and feeling like I might fall into the abyss of clinical depression, which I’ve experienced a couple of times in my life.

Everybody loves this duet and suggests it for reactions but, I think that, them together on Forgot To Be Me is even better?
I loved both of them so much, it’s hard to tell which one is “better”! I like them both for different reasons. Both are absolute masterpieces ❤️

You missed when she first was singing , she said , and used a word , for the medication ,that needs washed down with water , used for depression .. This medication , "Sertraline" , helps the function in the this world .. Lets say he took the pill yesterday , and he wakes up feeling ok , well , the question that he is feeling fine in the morning , he still needs to take the pill just in case ... He not sure , when or how his depression will kick in for the day .. but he is fighting his own demons , in order to have a come back in life .. Still its a daily fight on depression .. It not like he is crazy .. its all about the fight .. By singing these kinda songs and music , is given him reason to breath again , without having to put a lose around his neck .. He is keeping his head above water .. Yes , we all have a form of doubt with differences .

Hi Lynzi, I'd love to suggest Aurora if you aren't already obsessed with her. There's only one song she does that I prefer the "mastered" video for which is "Exist For Love". Any other song is better live, for a polished, orchestra backed performance, any song from her live at Nidarosdomen concert is incredible and acoustically the venue shines (though it lacks the lively concert vibe). If you want a specific request song, ask and ye shall receive... or just pick any, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Not the same "kind" of powerful that Chinchilla rocks, sweeter but still raw, emotional and powerful in it's own way.
If you like The Beatles (Across The Universe), David Bowie (Life on Mars) or Massive Attack (Teardrop)... she also covers those songs.

Random new rec that i just simply know for a fact youre going to adore - ethel cain. Youre gonna love her so much but just be warned the lyrical subject matter is just about as dark as it gets a lot of times - if youre ever down to do a full album reaction her debut came out last year and has been flooring people ever since - she makes some of the most unexpected choices in this album and i cannot waaaaaait to see where she takes the storyline next given the way that album ended. No spoilers, just... Holy whoa on literally every conceivable level i honestly class it more as a film in album format than simply an album because the way she set this tracklist up is GENIUS.

I think she's part of his mind. If you notice the light flickers before she shows up. Like in "Hi Ren" the light only does that when an alter ego is present. And it might be why their wearing basically the same thing.

I think not seeing her at first shows that Ren was not aware of his surroundings while under the influence of the drugs they were giving him, same with her. Watch how when she first stands and walks toward Ren she doesn't see him, almost to say she isn't aware he is there until she hears him and turns towards him.

Love your videos! What i don't get about this song is the scared of being ok part... Maybe it's about what are you going to do after you've overcome your psychological or substance problems because they somehow justify doing nothing or only concentrating on yourself. Im not quite sure...
