That whole album is a journey. Narcolepsy and The Background are my favorites.
It holds a special place in my mind and soul.
What weird is I had been in a relationship for about a year when the album came out and we hit a very bad patch during that time in our relationship just like the lyrics to “Losing A Whole Year” when he says I remember me and you used to spend the whole goddamn day in bed, as we did in my relationship, that album mirrored my life. I thought about if we broke up and the song to that was “How’s It Going To Be” I had just graduated in May of 97 the album came out in April 97 but the my junior and senior year I spent catching up cause I didn’t take Freshman and sophomore year seriously and I thought can I “Graduate” there was all kinds of lyrics that mirrored my life with that album
Background!! One of the best songs ever written imo! Whole album pretty magical though.
Still make me teary eyed listening to The Background. Fantastic song
Same - a perfect album
Third Eye Blind made one of the best debut albums of the 90s.
*_Not just of the ‘90s; one of the best debuts of all time._*
Yes! I put it up there with Foo Fighters Self Titled and Pearl Jam’s Ten!
probably my favorite emo album
Whoa! Slow down guy.... that album S🤘cked!
Stephen and Kevin Cadogan made magic together. "I've never been so alone, and I've NEVER BEEN SO ALIVE!"
I see you Devin! You’re right about the magic between those two✨
A shame what Jenkins did to those guys
Ying yang, man.
Stephan*
this album is unmatched. the basslines, the guitar work, the drums, the vocals, the lyrics.. I put it WAY higher than so many other albums in my mind. its true rating I cannot even rate.
This album immediately morphs me back to a time when adulting didn’t exist…
Right 😢
One of the best albums from the later 90s. Stephan’s vocals and Kevin’s guitar were together truly special.
100%. Amazing album from start to finish.
I wonder if they get into Kevin getting bounced out of the band. He and Stephen didn’t get on well, but the music was so good.
You don’t understand how much that album meant to me I was going through so many of the same things. It mirrored my life!
God bless you! Without music life would be a mistake
This album was and still is huge to me. Every....damn....song....is.....special. such a great piece of work. Not one instrument had the wrong effect on it. I'm 35 now. I remember my mom taking me to magic mart (because they sold unedited albums) when I was maybe 9 or 10. I bought this album and nevermind by nirvana with my Xmas money. My mom popped it in the CD player on the way home and we jammed. God I miss those days. This album takes me back. Huge influence on my music now.
I kinda can, because it was very much and in some cases, still is…the same to me.
Man I spent HOURS listening to Third Eye Blind.
Same
Same, same. Still play the original a few times every year.
Must have had a boring life...
@@Jreb1865yes you did
I still do
The debut album is etched in my soul. The whole album makes me choke up. I can remember how I felt at that formative time when I discovered it.
Great comment. I felt that…
One of those songs that's just perfect. Lightning in a bottle.
That album just plays amazingly. Track to track after tracj. And the climax is this track and God of Wine. Man, this album has been there for me through some rough times.
Same! We should start a club for that album like I said in my earlier comment I was living the things that was in that album when it came out so much so it was hard listening to it at the time because it mirrored my life so much. I can appreciate it today 27 later……
Same!!!
Motorcycle Drive By is probably the song that touched more human beings lifes.
There are/were some unique special bands in history.
One day.. when 3eb no longer exists... that's when we will realize the brilliance of this band.
I'm a lucky man for being alive in 1997 and being able to listen and follow this band for 27 years now.
One of the best albums ever made
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. It spoke to me when I first heard it because it was exactly what I felt and was going through.
God is this a full interview somewhere. 3EB are my favorite band, always been a HUGE inspirational story too. Believe 3EB was deep into failed attempts at a career in music and it just happens to be the best band ever. Quite literally one of the best songwriters of his generation
Obviously, Rick Beato had him on an interview. That’s Rick’s basement studio in Atlanta. I’m sure of the interview will come out sooner or later.
@@-Seven-Sphere-ya i can see that lol was more asking if it existed on the second channel or somewhere else. So excited for this one
The fact that these guys are having a resurgence is awesome. Great, fun music and amazing lyrics.
That whole album is so well put together. Songs are great, production is great, performances are great. No throwaway tracks or excess flab. Well worth the listen all the way through. It’s a strong candidate for best of the 90s imho.
Im so ready for this interview❤
one of the best songs ever written!!!
lovely to see so many nice comments… Third eye blind are simply my favourite all-time band, they've helped me through a lot
My God. You're album marked a time in my life. It was exactly what I needed and still is. Where are you? I saw you in Clearlake Ca. I still need your music..
Pretty excited for this.
Kevin Cadogan deserves a lot of credit for how good the first two Third Eye Blind albums are. Rick should interview him.
I wanna get back there again
Collab with coodagan
Soft dive of oblivion
Oblivion
Cadogan was such a great writer on those two albums, I might be more of a fan of tony Fredianellis guitar playing but Cadogan had such a great writing style
Agreed!
Hell, Eric Valentine would be a great interview as well.
@@Candyman_Young rick has already
I have been a fan of this band for several decades, and this is the first time I have seen his face.
Third Eye Blind's first few albums are so good. Blue is my favorite.
Saw them live a few days ago and they were great. Can’t go wrong with their debut album. Blue and Out Of The Vein are pretty good too.
Yep, three great albums.
I have those first couple albums and they're so great , 3 eye Blind rocks
I was born in 1970….MDB is the best single song writtenin my time….imo 🇨🇦💣 it’s a masterpiece from start to finish….✔️
Tony Fredianelli really needs to be given credit, the greatest guitarist this band ever had. Yes, Cadogan was a good guitarist and great songwriter, but Fredianelli had such a style of guitar playing that has never been matched since, not to mention his songwriting too
3EB got me through so much
Same!
My favorite song by them! Masterpiece.
he's a very good songwriter for sure
The best album. Still.
That album was the soundtrack to my walk to school when i was in middle school
Third Eye Blind are my all time favorite band!
Stephan is the best songwriter of his generation.
Legends recognize other Legends ... Thank you so much Rick Beato for this gift.
Thank you, Rick, for introducing me to this song a few months ago.
Such an iconic album.
Those “90s feels”
That the year I graduated high school
August 25 1997
Me too
This frequency changes my life every time forever
This
The 4 final songs on "Third Eye Blind" are some of the best songs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to 💜
I love music so much
Love their/his music.
Love hearing these sort of stories, how they got the inspiration to write something.
I think everyone, at some point, has experienced Motorcycle Drive By. Being surrounded by people, but so alone. Having that person you thought was your future, but paths diverged and the hurt remained.
One of my favorite albums. Losing A Whole Year and God of Wine are the perfect book ends.
Such a great song from an impeccable album. One of those albums you can easily listen to from start to finish without skipping a track.
Still listening to this album. Excellent 🎉
When is this full interview airing? Thx
Hopefully soon
Wait..i figured this comment thread was years ago..this is brand new content!? 🙌🏼
This album is perfect from beginning to end. It’s one of the most influential and impactful albums I’ve ever had the pleasure and privilege of listening to. This entire album hold such a profound place in my heart. I honestly could never stop listening to these songs.
This is my favorite song by 3EB. It’s awesome to hear it this way:
"I've bever been so alone, Ive never been so alive." The perfect line for my life when that song came out. Brilliant. These guys saved lives, no doubt.
Top tier album
I saw 3EB in ‘97-‘98 and several times more in recent years and the legend of Motorcycle Drive By (and the whole debut album and Blue) continues to grow and fans are generational now. Amazing story really, and they’re still underrated in my book but still drawing 10k-12k people to their summer tours.
I will always come back to this song for comfort
Played this CD in my disc man all the time and this is one of those go to songs when i was driving
This whole album gives me such a heart breaking nostalgia and this song especially 🥺
I love his voice
It's such a killer song ❤
Glad to see this song get some love, it deserves it!
Damn. A song that means a lot to me even at different slices of the time continuum…the opening lines….if only…
Gawd I REALLY hope there’s a full
Interview coming soon…. PLEASE RICK!!!!!
Reading through the other comments make me feel like part of a family. This record was so good, as almost feels like it’s getting better. Was definitely the soundtrack to my life at the time this came out. Still makes me smile, still makes my cry
You 100% need to interview Kevin Cadogan
@@YxYzYx he co-wrote on the entire self-titled album and was the main song writer of Losing A Whole Year, Graduate and How’s It Going to Be. Also on Blue, he wrote Wounded, 1000 Julys and others. His guitar sound and melody makes Third Eye Blind forever relevant. Since he left they haven’t had the same impact.
@@PatrickHerring Blue is such a kickass album
@@YxYzYxWrong. Cadogan musically wrote nearly all of the first album. He started using all the open guitar tunings. Songs like Jumper and Semi-charmed were solely Stephan but nearly everything else on that album musically is Kevin. The reason the band members didn’t back him up when he got kicked was bc they were offered more money.
@@YxYzYxyou can also pay off other people like Herman Chunn and Eric Godtland like Stephan did, I hear that’s another way that writing credits can sometimes work
Yeah. Eric Gotland wrote a lot of the lyrics. He was a ghostwriter. He also paid off Chun for semi charmed ownership. Jenkins is a good businessman as well as an artist and performer. He did Kevin, Tony and Arion dirty. He’d do the same thing to these new guys if he felt threatened.
This whole album is badass. Such an easy, great listen.
Their best song.
That album is so important to me. One of my first favorite albums. I spent train rides between San Diego and Burbank listening to them as a teen. Skating the sidewalks with my CD walkman. I love this band.
Great first and second albums from 3EB. How about a sit-down with Eric Valentine soon? He's responsible for them and so many other fantastic albums from those days and in to the early/mid 2000s.
Dude got skills ! He pops out in chorus mode at will ?!?! Hell ya !
So good
The absolute best song on that album
I forgot about this song. Thanks for the memories. This song got me through a lot of times during college.
I knew evey word of your album. So revolutionary. Do edge cutting. You changed my life. I miss your voice. I learned to care deeply because of you. 😊
❤
Well. I hadn’t felt old until I saw how old the lead singer from Third eye blind has gotten and I realized eighth grade was something like twenty five years ago
I LOVE THIS SONG
I’ve played this song 🎶 100s of times on a loop 🎶
Can’t wait for this whole interview
I watched the full interview first but knew that when you asked him to play fir us we were going to get something magic… and boy was it worth it.
Loved this interview ❤
Great song, GREAT album
I miss the original lineup 😢
These guys put our some of the best songs back then 👍🏼 smart, honest, insightful, they felt meaningful to a lot of people 😊 🐯
Finally a guest worth watching
Very underrated band.
My favorite.
Love it. Brings back memories. Absolutely love this song. Well, and I love Rick Beato.
Please tell me there's a full episode with Stephen?!
This is from Rick Beato's interview about a week ago.
I've never been so alone
And I've never been so alive
Such a great song!
Still a top 20 song for me of all time
One of my favorite songs to play and an incredible 90’s album
I love this song!
Is there a complete interview somewhere??
He’s uploading very soon
@@dogpd3That’s right! I see you dogpd3.
Apparently not “very soon”
Motorcycle drive by their best by far 👌 esp even those drums hit
Waiting patiently for this interview 😊
Love that song
Out of all of the songs that make me feel nostalgic, this is at the top of the list.
This was one of my favorite songs on this album…
Still one of my favorite albums. Man I’m gonna out it on now
So glad to be on your page and following along Rick
Got to see Stephen with an early Incarnation of his band at clubs Like Paradise Lounge in SF when he was just starting out always a great performer and totally committed and yes a great songwriter whether people want to hear that or not... which is the reason people like Rick are talking to him now after all these years because the songs have survived... in the primary reason I went to the show is because all my friends said Kevin was the most amazing guitar player which he was and still is
Damn. This was the album of my teens. 3eb is one of my favorites.
3eb!
@@Mattened fixed it👍🏻
Great song
That whole album is perfect all the way through
once i got my hands on their first album i did not stop listening to it. i can’t wait to see them in a few weeks
WHEN IS THIS INTERVIEW DROPPING???
for real!!! i’ve been waiting too
Still in shock to find new 3EB content..and you all here for it…all these years later. The best band ever
