  • A comprehensive video tour of the Palisades at Palisades Tahoe (formerly Squaw Valley), including the National and Main lines, as well as an unnamed couloir off National. These runs range from expert to truly extreme, and the toughest pitches are among the most dangerous in all of North America.
Filmed in early May 2021; conditions were typical for the end of the core season.
Palisades Tahoe - Olympic Valley is a destination ski area just west of Lake Tahoe. See our full mountain review here: www.peakrankings.com/content/...

Yes for sure. I have watched video shot at Alta/ Snowbird. I have been fortunate to ski there for a long time and it’s steeper and more challenging than it looks on video. Also snow conditions and rocks or tree branches under the powder can snag a ski and take you down in a no fall zone.

Had my first experience with a rock under completely flat unruffled snow on my board a couple of weeks ago. Board came to a complete stop, did 3 flips, and luckily flipped over the rocks 20 feet ahead but cracked my board.
New level of respect if I even have a hint there might be rocks within 4 inches of the snow surface, used to just think it was guaranteed to ride over them.

As a Tourist, I skied all these epic chutes back in Feb 1998 after a 2ft dump the weekend before....the Chimney, well it's a holiday ender if you fall.
I was waiting to drop in ....and an Aussie Girl was waiting behind me, I was doing the endless pole poke etc....bricking it. She asks me..."hey mate are you going to be long ?? My period is just about to start" ...Classic.

This is the year to hit the Palisades chutes. Epic conditions have opened a lot of terrain. Silverado and Eagle’s Nest are as good as they’ve been in years.

I jumped Palisades in '79 during a HUGE Cornice overhang year -3-4 seconds of hang was UNREAL... I also got to ski with Steve McKinney a lot right after his record in Portillo and hung out with many famous skiers including the guy that lit himself on fire and jumped Tower #18 -as seen in the lead-in for "Malcom in the Middle" TV Show. "Rocket"

The steep stuff always looks easier when you're down below looking up. When you're at the top looking down it is way scarier.

The Palisades gives a lovely false sense of security! Took me 2 seasons to hit all of them in 1 seasons. 1995 there was so much snow that chimney was easier than it ever should have been. Love the Palisades. Head over to Cornice 2 after you master that butte

As soon as I saw that snowboarder go heel side dominant, I knew what was going to happen haha. Toe side has more precision, and I find it WAY easier to bite my edge in more efficiently.

air jordan at whistler maybe more intsnse than chimney...not sure what conditions are for being a "run', however. yet a line that occasionally fills in i think is fair to juxtapose to air jordan.
