    Good channel 👍. What are the #1 and #2 largest resorts in North America?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety

      The list usually goes 1. Whistler - 8,171 acres; 2. Park City - 7,300 then SVAM combo will be 6,000 acres. But Powder Mountain with 8,464 usually gets left off the list because it sells limited tickets but now that most resorts are limiting riders it should take the top spot. 😀

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety

      Depends on how the resort rides too. Like Breck is 2,900 acres and most of it is always rideable, but Heavenly has 4,800 acres but rides like it only has 2,000.

    While I mostly understand why they changed the name, I don't know that Palasades is the best choice, becase there are group of peaks about 100 miles south in the Sierras named the Palasades. Confusing.

      It was finally approved by the state of California last winter. Altera resorts got it done after being in the plans for over 10 years.

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety

      we think it will be completed for the 2021/22 season when they will also have a new name for the combined resort (dropping the word Squaw due to the negative connotation)

    • @archstanton_live
      @archstanton_live Před 3 lety

      This plan has been in the works for so long...including a plan for a gondola with a left hand turn (over the ridge between KT and Headwall)...I have my doubts given the current economic situation and the economics of ski resorts in general. When you come off KT and head to the saddle you pass by the ghost of someone else's similar dream that never blossomed. That tower has been there for twenty years. The same year that they first announced plans to link SV and Alpine (with more than a bus - a decade ago(?)) they also announced plans for a high speed quad on The Chief "COMING SOON". Since then there has been a constant dribble of optimistic propaganda concerning regulatory successes about linking the resorts. Forgive me if I don't get my hopes up about them building a gondola with a 20 plus minute ride that links base to base and opens no new terrain.

    • @archstanton_live
      @archstanton_live Před 3 lety

      There used to be another ski park ... Deer Park or Deer Ridge or Deer Valley or something like that, I've forgotten. It was only there for a couple years (in the early '80s), and only had a couple chairs. It was where you turn off from 89 to go to Alpine. All the hardware is long gone but you can still see where they cut the runs and the parking lot is sometimes used by buses.

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety +1

      Interesting, yeah Deer Park ski area. The old graded ski runs in sierras have had a hard time regrowing vegetation to cover runs.

    @rezunreleased9337 Před 3 lety

    is this a good place for first time snowboarders?

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety

      I think so. You can take the tram to high camp where there are several beginner runs accessed by Baileys beach, mountain meadow and big blue lifts. So you get high up the mountain to see all the cool views and get good snow and not have to be stuck at the bottom of the mountain on a bunny slope.

    • @archstanton_live
      @archstanton_live Před 3 lety

      Red Dog and Squaw Creek have their days (in the winter) when they have the best off-piste on the mountain. Drool worthy. In the spring they are most worthy warm up starting points for your day (after Far East) as you work your way up the hill (Red Dog > KT> Headwall >Siberia> then wherever).

  • @Gundi_King
    @Gundi_King Před 3 lety

    • @snowboardtraveler

      Not usually. We visited mid feb 2020 during a 6 week dry spell so not many people were visiting. I imagine it is much busier this year even with the pandemic.

  • @mattloveton6884
    @mattloveton6884 Před 3 lety

    Tahoe used to be a cool place. Now it is overrun with big money driving up the prices and out the locals. Also, it’s such a beautiful area that it is a shame so much commercialization is happening. Tahoe should have been designated a national park to preserve its natural beauty. Instead there are hockey rinks, fancy hotels, casinos, and tourists trashing this treasure. Nothing against the video, it was well made. I just saw it and realized that soon Tahoe will not be a secured mountain area filled with natural beauty but a commercialized resort with the one goal of turning a profit. It’s pretty sad.

    • @snowboardtraveler
      @snowboardtraveler  Před 3 lety

      You can kind of say that about most ski resort areas these days. We went to some lesser known places in CO this year and really enjoyed them. Also love the remote places up on Canada. Hoping they open the border by next season.
