Hello,
I present to you the restoration of a small sword. I want to clarify that this sword is a replica. it is only used for decoration.
I am not a professional, but restoration has become a passion, a hobby.
GOOD VIEWING !! :)

Very nicely done with whatever tools you had. Perhaps with more restorations and some more better tools you will achieve fantastic results. Wishing you all the very best~! :)
Thank you very much, indeed I am a beginner, the tools will arrive over time :)
@@JSNRestoration fait un arce
I mean all in all it still seemed professionally restored, only real new tools needed would be a belt sander and those range from 350-6000 or more but for small knifes and swords 1000-1500 would buy I very good one
And a polisher
Hater alert hater is in the comment section handle with extreme caution
Judging from the bad quality of the mouldings on the crossguard, this is pretty much Tourist gift shop quality, rather than a real sword.
He vastly improved the thing.
My thoughts exactly. Made for tourists.
Yes exactly
Thanks you😊
Plus it has a threaded rod for a tang! Made in Spain? Did he ruin it?
You're absolutely right, but were mouldings any better on mass produced real military swords? I know handcrafted stuff that officers got were likely higher quality (Depending on how much the officer or noble was willing to spend) but the lower level soldiers' swords and daggers. Would they have been much better than this? (As far as mould quality, not blade or tang quality)
the Rat-tang wasn't enough to come to the same conclusion? the tang is just a thin piece, and will most likely snap if the sword hits something.
This item appears, as so many other "rusted relics" on U-Tube, to have the look of rust just recently induced. That blade's appearance does not resemble the hilt & grip as far as the entire piece aging together would appear, had the piece aged simultaneously, ie. as a unit, it doesn't match, re. its alleged age of neglect. The fine threads on that shaft indicate its manufacture from a time that's ANYTHING but "relic" related. And WTH would you continue to emery that blade to the point that there's now barely a trace of its prior engraving?! Where did THAT faux pas enter the thought process? And a FILE is used to recover the former sharp edge of a sword?! This "restoration" is just a conglomeration of incongruity!
...no one is holding your feet to the fire - I'm sure you're most definitely welcome to walk away to another channel...
Finally, someone acknowledges that some of these restorations are no more than theater at the most, and fraudulent at the least.
Just check the channel, it’s called French restore 😂
Eloquently spoken sir. My feelings and thought precisely as I watched him shred all traces of supposed history I could not believe how so many could send congratulations.
@@VidMediumNS He said it was a $20 sword. Not a museum piece.
Should have used black type for subtitles. Otherwise brilliant restoration. 😊
If the blade was hardened steel, you introduced stress fractures by cold hammering it thus ruining the blade. It looks like it may have just been mild steel so it was junk to begin with.
First thing I check on ANY knife is blade quality...give it a simple "ting"test, that'll tell you roughly what your dealing with.
The blade does not necessarily need to be shinyshiny, rather leave it dull and preserve any etching that is present.
This was a good training run...keep at it...good luck...
It has a rat tail tang so it is shit regardless
This does come across as a Chinese junk wall display piece. That was the first thing I thought too when he was hammering on it. It had to be soft metal. No practical use other than as a display piece on the wall.
Pretty blade though.
@@superdave8248 it wouldn't work in battle, but I'm pretty sure since nowadays nobody wears armor, you could very well use this to stab someone in the guts without a problem...
great job on the restoration. i would however recommend perhaps looking into getting a longer and wider flat file when doing the edges as this aids in getting even long smooth strokes to give you an even flat and straight edge.
That's one of the 'made in India' ink stamped wall hangers sold in low end stores. Probably sells 'new' for $20.
On the flight home ...
"Do you have anything to declare?"
"Well, I did buy this sword ... I mean letter opener."
Reminds me of that sword from the movie narnia
Remember, young chemist, always pour acid into water 🤔
Very Nice
A work of art. You know how to make it happen. 👍
My wife is an expert when it comes to restoring rusty trombones. ❤
Experts at making things look old !!
You were doing great until you put the grip on backwards. The grip should taper toward the blade so the larger end provides a lower chance of it slipping out of the hand. Easy enough to fix, though. Just turn it around. I like the faceted design. In a real sword it would provide more control of edge alignment in cuts. Your painting of the hilt added a lot to it and made it more beautiful than the makers ever dreamed.
An idea; if your attempts to burn he wood were not done for comedy, I suggest you get one of the blowtorch-like lighters used by some cigar smokers.
Yes😂😂😂
Thanks for the advice 😊
The pommel helps with slipping when the handle narrows towards it, so it doesn't only balance the blade. The original pommel here was just a decoration as the blade itself though, and it's now more sensible than it was before in my opinion. Most swords and daggers I've seen and held have had their handle like in the restored version and it's actually more ergonomic to hold when it's like that.
The original handle has a swell in the middle and tapers toward either end. The handle he removed isn't even close and looks like it came off of an old wooden handled screwdriver.
LOL I didn't catch that either on the first viewing.
@@wesleyworley8982 Just my two cents, but I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't Chinese manufactured. The wood handle probably did come off the assembly line and was left overs from another product line. They just found a repurpose for somebody else excess production run picked up for cheap.
a story about how to make a beautiful toy out of an artifact
I’m not gonna lie I think you restored my childhood Toledo dagger....I ligitimtly think this used to belong to me and I’m very happy to see the home it went to, this was stolen from me after I recovered it from my childhood neighborhood where I buried it 10 years prior, I had it for two months and it was stolen and I never saw it again, originally it had a wire wrapped handle but the wire rusted off and I cleaned up the wood but everything else literally brought tears to my eye that I found it 😊 even if it was not with me, thank you
A story! Thanks :)
Beautiful restoration 👍👍👍 like
Thanks :))
Nice job
Good work with simple tools lol glad to see not everyone HITECH tools on CZcams ، becoz most of us have simple manual tools available
Schöner Brieföffner!
Old sword, but not so much, because it has the screw system. am I right? 🤝👏👏👏🇧🇷 beautiful. 👏👏👏
Thanks !!!
This looks like it was just a wall hanger. But still a great restoration.
Merci beaucoup😊
Nice work! I was aghast at first thinking it was a real sword, but the longer I watched the more certain I was it was decorative! Then I was able to just appreciate tour hard work!
Edit: I would recommend a cheap butane torch for blackening wood. You'd probably find other uses for it as well!
What's wrong if it was a real sword
@@captainbubbles5509 the biggest things would be straightening the blade while it's cold, the loss of the original engraving on the blade, and changing the design of the grip.
@@StarScapesOG exatamente!
Very good. It all came together to make it better then original.
It's a great video...
However, why you didnt keep the original blade's ornament? Why you didnt keep original handle?
If you did handgrip smooth, and did not put to gold colour, the sword would be better, but that was awesome.
Exactly, that thing is more like a kitchen knife than a sword

Beautiful
Thanks :))
I wonder if it was a piece of theatrical costume.
The new wood handle looks like it's on backwards.
Great job..
Thanks !
Very nice
my initial thought was this was a knockoff made in China, but after seeing your hardwork, I am impressed. You made it unique and wonderful, even if its ornamental it still has a wonderful visual to it.
Beautiful spanish dagger, you can see the origin on the coat of arms of Castile and León
That ax at the end scared the crap out of me.

GOOD JOB, I'M GLAD I FOUND THIS CHANNEL!
I am happy
Parabéns pelo belo trabalho!!!
Beautiful job
Thanks :)
The handle should be upside down for better catch... Check all the swords and knifes...
Do not use chemical acids are degerous and very aggressive... use vinegar maybe takes more time but it's more gently!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for your advices. I am a beginner, it makes me very happy thank you again
Very beatiful! Job you the artistc!
Thank you!!😊
Ótimo trabalho. Parabéns.
What a splendid piece of work you did! Very nice! Thank you for this video!
Nice Restoration work.
Thanks :))
@@JSNRestoration,
No. Restoration is the restoration of all parts and bringing them to their original, original form. This “master” erased all the original elements on the blade and drew nonsense with a laser.
Bring me exceptional pleasure to your work.
You have a laser engraver but not a band saw? Mon ami, that should definitely be your next investment.
I couldn’t tell if you were serious with the first handle build and the direction of the wood grain?
A bite ouf humour :))
I like the process, combining the old techniques and the new tech. You turned out a nice authentic Restoration.
Thonder, thonder, thondercats ohhhh
Thanks!!🤩

🤤
Beautiful!
Thanks🤩🛠
I think i own the dagger version of this
beautiful national shield of spain
first attempt on the handle was "hahahaha" the fibers bruh!!!
At first I didn't get why you removed the original engraved markings but after seeing that you removed them to make room for new ones, it made a bit more sense to me.
beautiful work, by any chance have you tried holding it in your hands and saying "Thunder, Thunder, Thundercats hooooww", please excuse the joke is that the sword resembles a lot😅
Thanks😂🎸
I suport your videos..keep restoration knife oke bro
Whenever value this thing had before it was ruined the second this guy got his hands on it
you may notice he did post in the edit under the video that this was/is purely a decorative piece that he did the restore on. i doubt he would hav edone this had he found/bought agenuine piece of with historic value or significance.
@@delmaneboshoff5610 i didn't see that but I checked and you are right, either way, I still enjoyed the video, I'm partial to authentic restorations though, hence my comment.
That sword-like object was probably $20 new
Looks great, well done. 👍
Thanks bro :)
VERY NICE 👍
THANKS!✌🏻
You should use brass brush
the first handle wood has broken because of the grain..the lenght of the handle wood block was cross grain..the second one was along grain..perfect..
You've put the wooden hand grip upside down! 😂
Bravo !
it seems to me that you fixed the shaft of the handle a little with the wrong side, if you compare it with the original version - there seems to be a wide part closer to the pommel ...
and so, it turned out great)
it's not a sword, but a dagger.. 👏🏻🤣
Beautiful job.....
🤩
Awesome video and great work on the sword!
I still think during Medival times, enemies slapped each other silly with their swords. It only takes a few degrees ° for either a cut, or a slap
Other than it not being a sword the restoration was reasonably well done.
Outstanding !
🤩
Wow! Well done sir.
THANKS🤩
$20? Lucky
Love your work.
Thanks :)
Not sure if: "By the power of anti-rust... I HAVE RESTORED IT!" or "Eye of sandpaper give me rust removing power beyond rust removing power!"

I got the long knife(dagger) of that yes mine is modern but I'll get some pics to show
Original draw on the blade... how many regrets...
