Restoration of Caucasian SHASHKA - TREASURE Under the Rust

- Hi! Today is the restoration of the Caucasian shashka. The condition of the blade is average, the rust turned out to be deep, but initially I thought it would be worse, the rust fell off in layers. Well, I'm starting to restore.
The first duty was to dismantle a piece of old wood in place of the handle. The blade was dipped into a rust remover. I was pleased with the rivets: they are copper. There is a hope that the blade is old.
After cleaning the blade, I started the “sanding”. I didn't use a single cm of sandpaper. I chose different methods, it took a long time, but the whole story is preserved on the surface of the blade. After cleaning, the stamp “wolf” (there are many types and names, each master is represented in his own way)” was found - a common stamp on saber shashkas in the Caucasus. The second name of “Ters-maimun” or the roaring monkey. The brand comes from the German city of Passau, which was famous back in the 14th century.
After cleaning the blade, I started creating the handle. For the handle, I chose a classic object - a buffalo horn. And brass rivets.
The scabbard was made of dry beech wood, and I selected natural leather for the scabbard. I decided to use red leather for additional details. The accessories of the scabbard are made of brass and aged.
I sharpened the checker, conducted an interesting test that you have been waiting for so long. Don't forget to share this video!
Sincerely, Alex. Thanks for attention!
Good luck and health to everyone! With best wishes, Alex!

I was in awe when you rang the sword and it kept vibrating.
It was a strange feeling, but I liked that there was something in that ringing
Cool. Thank you! Beep-beep.😉
Love the effort u put into editing. Great video.
Another awesome and fun restoration. Thanks for the share.
Thanks!
A masterpiece as usual.
Thank you!
Congratulations on a most elegant weapon, returning to useful status, a most prized possession. Needs to be displayed with honor.✅👏👍
Thanks!
A restoration channel that actually cleans up the audio? Subscribed.
I’ve watched a few restoration videos by other CZcamsrs but Alex is the only one I have subscribed to not just because of his clean audio but because of his clear love for what he does and his continuing efforts to improve.
His is kind of a niche channel within the restoration niche because he focuses on pieces from his area but I’ve learned a lot about the kinds of blades (and at least one gun!) he works on. This American just loves sharp pointy things and their history. How can I not love this channel?
Wait till you see some of his videos about hunting new projects at flea markets. I am so envious because we don’t have flea markets like those here.
Hi thanks, but I didn't understand about the sound) My English is not at a professional level, excuse me.
Hi! Thank you! You have described my interest and love of the business so clearly and accurately. I appreciate it very much
@@ScrewsAndTools I think they mean that your sound does not include loud clunks and scrapes and power tool noise, like many other channels do. When you do speak it is clear and understandable, not muffled or mumbled.
This should be a basic skill for anyone doing audiovisual production but sadly it is not.
Let me add that your video is also clean and sharp almost all of the time which is important when you show is markings on blades, sanding progress and so forth. I have not seen any poor lighting from you either. Again a basic skill some others seem to lack.
@@ScrewsAndTools Hello! Yeah I watch a lot of restoration videos, but the loud machinery often ruins the otherwise relaxing vibe. I appreciate that you took the time to edit the audio to quiet those loud/harsh sounds. It makes a much more pleasant viewing experience.
Amazing work! The attention to detail made it a two pots of tea project!
Thank you mate!
It's so cool to see such a craftman at work. Thanks for sharing this restorations with us.

Hi and thank you for that explanation of roaring monkey. OK I'm confused. I just googled roaring monkey and got a Chinese sword. Why is this sword here important? beep beep and thank you for making it ring. It sounded nice to my ears. OMG you have a band saw.. WOW man.
Hi, sorry for the late reply, "roaring monkey" is translated from Chechen or Georgian, but this expression is not popular outside the Caucasus. Thanks for attention
Awesome ! I’m glad it’s yours to keep !

Great work.
I love the knife you use to remove the original handles.
Hi, thanks. This is an old knife by the way, here is its restoration (czcams.com/video/fvt8GE2U1S8/video.html) . To this day, he works in my workshop
Piękna robota!!!!
Great video as always, beautiful piece of history.you never fail to not impress.another one for the museum,or your collection or a customer.just keep doing your thing and carry on.😎😎😎👍👍👍
Your scabbards are a true work of art.

Magari xar !
Excellent work as always
Hello mister Screws beautiful restoration well done
Amazing work, from the start to the very end this certainly was a transformation. Definitely worthy of a "beep beep" to peace brother from here in the UK.
Thank you for your attention and interest. Yes, I've been wanting to make a horn handle for a long time)
Very nicely done my friend. And sharp also.
It is amazing you can cut up something that far away from your body. It must be hard to aim! You make it look so easy to slice up a pumpkin with a long sword.
Thank you for another great video. ❤
Great job Alex! As usual, another lovely restoration and a wonderful job with the Buffalo horn. Keep up the great work!
An amazing job sir nicely done
Thanks!!
And again a nice peace of restoration work! Love to see this;-)) Peace wishes from the low countries!
