I actually found a good way to play video games with friends in person while staying safe, typically at/after sunset. This may not work for everyone, so this is mainly for people in suburbs or a rural environment/neighborhood. You’d need a projector, an end table, a house/exterior wall, a white sheet, some chairs, an HDMI cable, a power strip, an extension cord if needed and an actual console/computer/laptop.
I would also like to clarify that this is not the only way to do something like this safely. Other people have their own ideas and solutions to this problem, and I understand that. This is just the safest way to do this that I could think of, and again, it might not work perfectly for everyone, but it’s at least a decent starting point to start developing your own solutions.
First, tape the white sheet to the side of the house/wall. You’re going to want to make sure that there is an electrical outlet nearby, so don’t do this on the side of a random bridge. Then, position the end table a decent distance from the white sheet. After that, use the extension cord (if necessary) to first: plug in the power strip, and then: plug in the projector, and place the projector on the end table facing towards the sheet. You can adjust the distance between the projector and the sheet and focus the image so that you get a clearer and larger “screen.”
Then, bring out whatever console you want to play on, plug it into the power strip and use the HDMI cable to connect it to the projector and project whatever game that you want to play onto the white sheet. If you want to, and if your internet is stable enough, you can also stream movies from Netflix or Amazon Prime to the projector through a laptop.
After you do this, get some chairs out for your friends/family. Make sure to put them AT LEAST 6 FEET APART, and make absolutely sure that everyone is bringing/wearing a mask. After that, the rest is simple. Get some bags of chips, put some bottles of water in a cooler, wait for your guests to arrive and have fun playing video games with other people in person.
P.S. Just make sure not to get too loud, your neighbors might not be ok with hearing a bunch of people raging at a white sheet in the middle of the night.
