West Ham not being expected to win will be our 12th man. This will allow us to be free and less pressured and just play. We may then be surprised by the outcome.
My heart says that we might have a slight chance of getting something but my head says that Alonso far superior tactics will get them to run rings around our one trick negative Moyesball, I hope that I'm wrong
Cresswell ahead of Nayef Aguerd as the left sided centre back? Seriously? Have you forgotten his 2 sending offs in the Europa League two years ago? He is now two years older and even slower. Apart from Bowen possibly missing the return leg, Paqueta and Emerson are both one yellow away from a suspension. We need to grind out a draw out there and give ourselves a real chance next week
Don’t underestimate the absolute havoc Antonio can cause, he will run them ragged all night long. We need Paqueta and kudus winning as many set pieces in their half as possible, and we need Soucek on his absolute A game.

I honestly think our best bet is to go ultra defensive with a back 5, park the bus and get as many big bodies on the pitch as possible, rough them up and maybe we can score from a corner or something like vintage west ham:

We had enough problems with Wolves playing 3 at the back on Saturday until we matched up, so I wouldn't play a 4 at Leverkusen.
If Areola, Alvarez and Bowen are all missing, then the only real call is Aguerd or Cresswell. I think I'd opt for Nathan - the height and pace should be helpful at both ends.
Expect something like a 5-3-2 set up, possibly with Kudus and Antonio playing as spilt forwards behind each wing back.
Keep them within one goal at worst.

We've got that Euopean Moyo so still pretty confident, losing with 1 goal difference tomorrow would be a decent result to take home but a surprise in Leverkusen would be far from impossible. They struggled big time with Qarabag, even after the Azerbaijiiani side got a red card

Just because he played OK against a injury ravaged wolves for 30 odd minutes doesn't mean he's worth a gamble in a huge game like this. Your asking Moyes to repeat what he's failed at.

I agree with the cresswell take but i'd actually rather have Oggy than Aguerd in that LCB spot. It'll probably be "backs against the wall" defending all game and I simply don't trust Aguerd to do that.

We only have to win 3 of the next 5. That means keep it tight on Thursday. if we lose don't make it by more than 1. If we manage to do that, we've got a counterpunchers's chance. A draw or a win on Thursday, and we can get this job done. It's a tall mountain, but not an insurmountable one.
Personally would have Aguerd over Cresswell in a back 3 system.

Johnson, mavra, zouma, augerd, emerson. If they come down the right augerd and emerson move out and the other 3 form up like they would in a back 4 anf vice versa on the other side. Soucek and ward-prowse to try and pass quickly forward then kudus, antonio and pauqeta to stay up top for counter. Its our best shot imo.

Bowen is massive miss but can make our squad more balanced. Kudus on the right wing in his best position is a like for like and Emerson LW,Pac-Man in the centre and Antonio up front with 5 man back line. That’s still a decent line up. Must play Johnson instead of Coufal. COY!!!
Without Bowen & Alvarez we are screwed, the best we can hope for is damage limitation for when they come to our place. 🤦🏻♂️
Our best hope is that our unique brand of football will bamboozle them so much that all their silky skills and tactical prowess will be completely in vain.
This is theseason right here. If we lose their heads might drop for tge rest of the season. Without Bowen I hope he sticks to the 2nd half change at Wolves. It would allow us to attack and be Moyesie as in tight and compact. Of only Moyes could get over his issues with Aguerd and Cornet we might get something out of this.

I would start with Gonzo s back three and use the wing backs to bolster the midfield and then switch to Geos formation if we need a goal 2 nd half . Hopefully this way we do not get overrun and concede a few goals first half . If we can then manage to lose by the odd goal we have a good chance of getting through .

There’s a very small one, I’ve seen them stutter against a couple of sides like Stuttgart and Gladbach. But they’re unbeaten for a reason.
I'm worried again it's the battle of the benches especially at this point in the season when players are fatigued

My birthday is on Thursday of the 2nd leg, and at my job, you can take it off with pay. Or if you want the cash, you can work that day and get paid double for the day. If we don't miraculously don't get spanked in the 1st leg, it will force me into a very difficult situation. Take off and watch the match or get paid double and listen to the match via earbuds under my hearing protection.

Probably not, they are used having the ball 30 m from the opponent's goal like all the time. They are relentless. Still, they are not exactly a goal producing machine. I wouldn't be surprised if they simply win it by one goal and still be happy with it.

Will Moyes drop Coufal? I don’t think so. He’ll choose Fabianski even if Areola is fit. He will go 5 at the back but will he play Johnston or Cresswell there? If all our boys are up for it & play well with 100% focus we can definately score over there, they won't fancy the PL style, that last unfancied European team they played held 'em 2-2 up 'til the 93rd minute, so we've definately got a chance of beating 'em at the LS.

The German side has been squeezing out wins and draws with a lot of last minute goals. That says the luck is due to run out. It also means they will not stop scrapping. A couple of quick goals won't faze them... I think Moyes does 3CB to get Emerson up higher. It will be tougher for Levurkusen as there will not be much film to study. WHU can pull this off!!

I’m much like Geo for this game. Excited but not nervous. I was far more nervous in Prague but that was because I thought it was a 50-50 game prior. We are huge underdogs for this tie but certainly not beyond hope, so it’s a nice healthy mix for me. I’ll just be over there determined to enjoy the day regardless.

Not looking forward to this game I have to admit. I'm guessing Moyes's gameplan will be to sit back & try & nick a 1-0 advantage to take back to the London Stadium. Never say never but when I compare Leverkusen's team to ours they have so much quality in every position & probably all of their players get into our first team. When you take out the likes of Paqueta, Kudus, Alvarez & Bowen from our team we look average.
It's not so much for the individual quality. They just click seemlessly.
Hiya lads. Personally I don't hold a great deal of hope but that's not a lack of faith in our players. It's more a lack of faith in Moyes. I think the game will be one or lost in the technical area and Alonso is just light years ahead of Moyes tactically. Just a thought on us playing a back 3. IF we do would this not be the perfect game for Aguerd to play on the left of that back 3? One of the main reasons he was brought to the club was Moyes view to switching to a back 3 wasn't it? The experiment was quickly shelved but I think Aguerd would be perfect if we went that way. Just food for thought.
On a separate note, and a slight tangent, I would love to pose a question. Tim played a significant role in Leverkusen we see today. A lot of their current success and status is as a result of his early input and groundwork. With that being the case how can Sullivan not look at Leverkusen and think that if Tim can do that for them then what could he do for us IF given the freedom and trust? Let the man do his job unfettered cos we can see the results of his labour. We will actually see it up close and personal on Thursday. If Sullivan has an ounce of ambition or care for our club then he will see that Tim is our future. Even if he has zero ambition or care for WH then as a PURE businessman he can see the benefits of Leverkusen's progress. Come on Sully. IN TIM WE TRUST.

No mate, it goes back into the UEFA Co-efficient, usually a country like Belgium would benefit although it may have changed since the format is changing next season but regardless, only winning the trophy gets Champions League
