It's worth mentioning that all but 2 of the 2001 remasters have bonus tracks that don't belong on the album that they're placed on, which was really weird. For example, the remastered version of Defenders of the Faith has a bonus track called Turn On Your Light, which is from the Turbo session and the remastered version of Screaming for Vengeance has a bonus track called Prisoner of Your Eyes which is also from the Turbo session and the same thing for the remastered version of British Steel, which also has a Turbo session track called Red, White & Blue, while the remastered version of Point of Entry has a bonus track called Thunder Road which is from the Ram It Down session, as well as the remastered version of Stained Class, having a bonus track called Fire Burns Below which is also from the Ram It Down session and the remastered version of Hell Bent for Leather has a Screaming for Vengeance session track called Fight for Your Life and the remastered version of Sin After Sin has a bonus track from the Stained Class session called Race with the Devil. This makes ZERO sense. Why not put the appropriate bonus track from the session of the actual album that's being remastered? Why put it on another album which was recorded years apart? The only 2 remasters that got it right were Turbo and Painkiller, which each has a bonus track (All Fired Up and Living Bad Dreams respectively) that was actually from that albums actual recording session.

True that Maiden with Blaze collapsed in America.
But if we go further, Maiden starts declining (ticket sale wise) in America as early as 1988.
On the other hand, they became huge in Europe from 86 and so on.
Fear of the dark tour '92 saw Maiden play at... the Ritz (with Dream Theatre) which is a tiny concert place.
So my point is: if Bruce or Rob stayed in their band, would the 90's be different for both Maiden and Priest ?

I love everything on Angel Of Retribution accept the song Lochness. I could not get into Nostradamus at all accept for two songs Prophecy and title track Nostradamus. I love Redeemer Of Souls album. I love Dragonaut, March Of The Damned, Title track, and especially Halls Of Valhalla. I really, really love Firepower album big time. I love everything on it, especially Rising From Ruins, No Surrender, Spectre, Traitors Gate, Firepower, Lighting Strike, Never The Heroes, and Sea Of Red. Firepower is the best Judas Priest album since Painkiller in my opinion. Firepower tour is the first time I ever got to see Judas Priest live. I have been a huge fan of theirs for over thirty years, but I was too young to see them in the 80's and I refused to see them when Tim Owens was in the band. Talking about "Jugulator" and "Demolition"...I think you should listen to them as an answer to what Halford did at the same period with "Fight" and "Halford"...but with a touch of Priest in it...If you manage to do that I think you can see the beauty in these two albums.

OMG, my response to Ram it Down was exactly the same. Getting into heavier stuff, not thrilled with Turbo, JBG?!
So I ignored it. Then I was living in Iowa, going to college and I was getting a tattoo when the Painkiller CD came on. I asked the guy, ‘who’s this band with this guy sounding like halford?’
I could’ve shit to learn it was Priest.
I like Ram it Down a bit more now. It would have been cooler to have been that twin turbos idea.

Agree, it takes a lot of heat because it isn’t “metal” but I think it’s a great rock/prog rock album, probably would have been a little more palatable if it had been a single album, but I rank this one near the upper middle of the pack for me tbh.

    • @aidanbouw5224
      @aidanbouw5224 Před 4 lety +1

SadWings86, no way! I disagree hard. Half the tracks on Nostradamus are filler. Stuff like Shadows In The Flame, Peace, Hope And Sands Of Time aren’t terrible, just SO unnecessary. They could have taken away combined songs like that, to make a shorter album when it comes to songs. Redeemer is in my opinion great. High energy, straight to the punch, epic and a reimagined Priest. Richie Faulkner pumped some liters of fresh blood into the bands metal veins and by doing that, he gave this album a different that doesn’t stray too much from the signature sound either. Redeemer is shorter, more polished and just better in my opinion

It’s a good thing Neil Young didn’t make ‘Nostradamus’; he’d have performed the whole album in its entirety and then when the audience started shouting for something familiar he’d have performed it again.

Lemme take a run at ranking :
    18. Nostradamus
    17. Demolition
    16. Turbo
    15. RockaRolla
    14. Point of Entry
    13. Ram it Down
    12. Jugulator
    11. Angel of Retribution
    10. Sin After Sin
    9. Redeemer of Souls
    8. Firepower
    7. Hell Bent for Leather
    6. Sad Wings
    5. Screaming
    4. Painkiller
    3. Stained Class
    2. British Steel
    1. Defenders
    2-6 difficult, almost mood dependent
7-10 a tick below, but interchangeable within those four
    1 and 18 are locked.
Unleashed clearly the best live record.
Priest Live is awesome EXCEPT for the shit tracks of Parental Guidance and Private Property. But Love Bites, The Sentinal, Another Thing...... Amazing versions.
I’ve just ordered the vinyl of Battle Cry to give it a good listen. I’ll grab the Ripper live record, IF I can get a reasonable price. But since that will complete the vinyl collection, I’ll get it at some point.

Never brought any priest stuff had some halford solo stuff and the first fight album. But these extended if you will history ofs are great. Same as the black sabbath ones. Would be cool if you did them on well known singers or guitarists like satch or schenker and what influence they had on projects. Can be anybody. Bring in someone else who is a die hard fan

I actually liked the first 8 songs or so on "Nostradamus". It's over ambitious, I'd say. If they'd stripped it down instead of going for a two-disc-set it could've been a great album.

My first JP live show was on the Turbo tour in Philly with Dokken opening. Had had tickets to see them with Maiden in 82 but had gotten food poisoning so ended up missing that one which pains me to this day. Turbo is such a bad album in JPs catalog but the show was killer and probably the loudest show I’ve ever been to, ears were ringing for a week after that one !

Some thoughts... I started with Priest in 1988 and I bought the Ram It Down Album back then which I kinda liked. Painkiller, though, blew me away. It still does. - Demolition is not good, agreed. But even there still are quite nice songs, I like "One On One" and "Close To You". - Loch Ness is a killer track, really great doomy thing, but agreed with that it does not fit well on the album. - I really love the Nostradamus album, and I recommend to listen to it in its full entirety. OK, two songs are weak, but I love that thing. - Redeemer was solid, some great tracks there. - Live perfomances on CZcams showed an old Rob with an old voice - I feared that the end of Priest was near. But then: Firepower is very strong, cool and hot and I saw the band live and they blew me away again. As if they got 20 years younger. Astonishing! Even the new guitar duo worked more than well and all fear that the magic of Tipton/Downing could have been dies was gone. The atmosphere in the big festive tent in Mannheim (GER) was magical, the whole audience was on fire. One of my best memories ever.

Imo, Angel of Retribution was their best album since Painkiller. It's criminally underrated. Unfortunately, Rob's high range was gone, because he started smoking again after he ended his Crucible tour and you could tell by the time he started singing live with Priest in June 2004 that it had severely diminished since the June 2003 (only 1 year of Rob smoking again screwed up his vocals).
