Philippines is not really poor, yeah maybe, buit it's because of greedy blood sucking government politicians. What? For example, how can those politician afford to send their kids to private school and live in upscale neighborhood with nice cars. It's true.

Well talking about Philippines as a poor and dirty country.....In the past, they say that Philippines was one of the richest in Asia, (second to Japan) and we were even ahead of South Korea and Taiwan. Then problems came in the 80s and we became the 'sick man of Asia' . When I was a small kid I had always thought that the Philippines is the poorest country in the world. When I got older I've learned that between richest and poorest, we are somewhere in the middle, and there are many nations much poorer than us. we are now a newly industrialized country (started in 2009 or 2010) according to World Bank along with Mexico, Brazil, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey, and some other countries. Meaning we are ahead of most developing countries and we continue to grow. Because of you guys that I've learned to appreciate the goodness in my country. Thank you for loving the Philippines.

@@DORCASMorounmubo I am sorry I'm disagree of mr. Galaxy statement that the problem start in the 80s which is wrong. I will discuss to you the summary of our history.
Actually most of the problem that my country ( Philippines) experiencing was start during the 2nd term of President Marcos and the Martial law due to corruption, political instability, the rising of communist and muslim insurgency wherein most of our foreign investors force to pullout their business here. That's the reason in year 1983 our country economy was collapse or we called it economic depression. That is why the next succeeding administration is the one who handle the problem that said dictator left behind, still we filipinos and the rest of tax payers paid the Marcos administration debt until year 2025. Just imagine how many generations paying that foreign debt.
Although I'm agree his statement that we are in between or middle class nation in the 90s and mid 2000s. But started in year 2010 my country improved a lot became one of the rising tiger of Asia but they're still lots of are to improved. That is why this year 2022 election is crucial to our nations growth. I hope my fellow Filipinos learn the lesson from the past.

Philippines is very rich in natural resources and very educated workforce, unfortunately there were mismanagement and corruption in the Philippines. It is now changing, the new generations are demanding accountability from their leaders. During 1960s and 1970s, Philippines was second only to Japan as the richest country in Asia. I graduated from University of Santo Tomas, and there’s a lot of activities. After class at night we go to beer hours to eat and drink.

The Philippines will become an upper middle income country in 2022. Its HDI is high, so technically Philippines is no longer a poor country and its not rich either. But your country Nigeria is considered a poor country its has a low HDI despite of having the biggest economy in Africa. Nigeria and Philippines almost have the same 400b economy but your country's population is almost double with our population.
