  • The 5-out motion offense is most likely the best offense to develop youth Basketball teams at any level to become well-rounded players. But most teams especially at younger ages struggle against a zone defense.
In this video I show you how you can beat any zone defense by making subtle but effective changes to the basic 5-out motion offense. We want to create ball and player movement, have continuity in our motion and it’s still simple and easy to learn. These 3 key principles will definitely help your team score more points and destroy any zone defense, no matter if it is a 2-3 zone defense or a 3-2 zone defense or anything else.

Thanks for posting this. I have been coaching middle schoolers for two years and admit I didn't know what I was doing in my first year in our offense philosophy. I learned about the 5-out offense last year and am studying it for the upcoming basketball season in my 3rd year of coaching. Again, thanks!

I've watched this video several times and really appreciate it, but for some reason I only now noticed the schema at the end. It's absolutely brilliant! Easy to understand and gives youth a flow to the various scenarios in the play as it develops...makes the motion offense less intimidating for our newer players. Thanks so much!

I really like the videos from this channel. They are easily applied on court. I'm looking forward for the inbound plays.

Thank you so much. The next video is about Zone Offense. The next but one is planned for the end of May and will then be about inbound plays.

Really like your videos, especially with the animation. Any tips on teaching youth basketball teams out of bounds plays (I.e. under the basketball?)

Great vid. Do you have a video of the 4 out 1 in setup against a zone?

There's a video on how to play against zone regardless of offensive formation.

Love your videos. I’m coaching true beginners (5 and 6 year olds), but I am trying to use these principles!

Coaching such young kids must be a lot of fun but also a challenge. Keep going. Glad I could help.

Shallow Cut towards the best 3-point shooter puts him at the Top of Key and the point guard at the wing spot before the 1st pass.
Shallow Cut = Point guard dribble entry to the wing spot, forcing that wing player to loop uptop before the 1st pass is made.👌

Will definitely try this. Think my backcourt players will love it.

This is going to create overcrowding at the top of the key if the 1 is just passing and standing there throughout

That was my thought. Everyone will collapse and he'll have a tough time kicking out.

no1 should be standing still in 5 out, all players will be rotating until a play for the basket is available. Then if shot is miss rebound and reset back into basic 5 out rinse and repeat
