  • A zone can often times create poor shots, bad ball movement, and all together unsuccessful offensive possessions when teams get fixated on running a play that's supposed to create one specific open shot.
    In this video, we breakdown the goal(s) of 2-3 Zone, what the most critical area on the floor is for the offense, and different ways to expose the way a defense has to rotate in their 2-3 Zone.
    Specifically, we will cover;
    1. The 3 keys of 2-3 Zone Defense
    2. The #1 killer of 2-3 Zone
    3. Different ways to pick apart a zone after getting the ball to the high post
    4. Using dribble penetration to get the ball to the high post area
    5. The importance of shot fakes when playing against a zone

    I LOVE what you said at the end!!! “Get a Playmaker in the high post and someone in the dunker spot and PLAY BASKETBALL!” Players aren’t robots 🤖 , give them a framework to play from and let them figure it out.

      Dunker spot isn’t great has it the 2-3 unless you have someone with a lot of size and athleticism. It’s more practice to have someone run the baseline

      One of the best things I’ve learned early in my coaching career is a mix of set plays as well as freelance sets. Run plays if the offense has gotten stagnant or you need to stop a run, but let the boys set up in a set and hoop if things are already working.
      Against a 2-3 I have a simple set with my best mid range shooter and playmaker at the ft line and my guys work it around the perimeter until they can get it to him, once he gets it both corners cut and the wings replace corner. A good shot happens every single time because they can let the game come to them.

      Remember you slashing , even when not getting the pass or making s bucket. That simply you being s threat slashing thru makes the defense have to follow or cover.
      I was a slasher and sometimes a hard backdoorcut that catches a defender off . Will leave your teammate wide open behind you.
      When it's depressing and taking u out of the game count those maneuvers as assists . Had u not made urself a threat every possession you wouldn't have teammates as open.
      The slasher also gets the love back when a shooter on ur team is torching them. They will jump to get there faster, and if u time your slash right the defense opens a wonderful gap up for you. And you can get those looks your wanting and best at.

    Best way to best a zone is also screening the top of the zone from the wings, allowing the perimeter players to slash and put pressure on the defense. Keep up the good work my guy.

    A basic overload and a high IQ 4 in the high post destroys most 2-3 zones. Setting up the perimeter shooters and providing opportunities for offensive rebounding (defensive rebounding is the Achilles heel of any zone defense) is all you need. Great video!

      32 defense. Have a slasher working the shit out of the baseline leaves the other back guy stuck on an island, when slasher do their thing.
      Your either gonna get a nice look at the basket off the backdoor pass or slash. Or get the top wings to sag down leaving your guards space to drive and dine. Or quick ball reversal to beat the closeouts and get good looks .
      The baseline slasher should be able to rebound and look for quick put backs.
      Any motion that gets the defense to over extend their coverage leaves openings.
      Just gotta work to be able to alwayea see the angles

    It's interesting to see how bad NBA teams play offensively against zone. The increased pace harms the attack's IQ when you need to move the ball more. NCAA players also leave for the NBA earlier and earlier and do not fully develop the collective aspect of the game.

    Another good read to make in a situation when one defender has to guard 2 (like at min 3:05) can be to pass to the wing (at the same side) if that defender closes the high-post (leaving open the other pass), right? Or am I missing something? Great video by the way!

    • @TheFilmRoom1
      @TheFilmRoom1  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Nope, you’re absolutely right. Once you get any situation (zone or man) where one defender gets caught trying to guard 2, you just have to throw it to the guy he doesn’t commit to. And if he tries to play between both, I always suggest hitting the guy closest to the rim because he’s out leveraged. Thanks for commenting!
