  • @frankvee
    @frankvee Před 4 lety +1

    LPF SLOPE is Low Pass Filter Slope. Basically the roll of on the back end. How fast do you want it to roll off? At 12dB per octave or 24dB per octave.

    • @PolkFan
      @PolkFan  Před 4 lety +1

      Yeah, it's ironic because I was just researching it a few days ago and have been playing with the different configs. The 24dB sounds cleaner but I like the 12dB more. The frequencies are rolling off too fast at 24. I like the frequency bleed more in a HT setting. Perhaps in a music only environment the 24dB roll off may be the way to go.

    Great video man. Just saw the back of your sub and noticed you were only using the left input so im under the impression that you were using it on music when you recorded this video. But you may try using Y cable or Y splitter and you will notice a 3db increase gain output. This only applies on music as you need only 1 cable for movie (lfe).

    • @PolkFan

    Nice demo - I hope you are still enjoying your purchase. Your system sounds great, but its hard to judge the sub performance through my earphones unfortunately. The only suggestion I could make is to invest in some carpet and other absorption or diffusion, otherwise you have put together a nice system. Also, if you go with a couple of $100 transducers in your seating you likely would not feel the need for another sub.

      Thanks man! I'm now running two of these and couldn't be happier. It took some tweaking since this video but I now have them dialed in to perfection. In every which way I love this system. The Polks provide superb sound quality and the Rythmiks are simply unreal. The SPL levels; the accuracy; the frequency range, its audio heaven. Check out my Aquaman demo, though it's hard to hear what it really sounds like, it provides an idea.

    May I ask, what made you settle with the fvx15 and not the fv15hp or fv15hp2?

      @PolkFan  Před rokem +2

      Wow, that's a huge room. With a room that size, you'll probably wanna go larger - a pair of F18s or FV18s. My room is 16x20ft so a pair of these is plenty - more than enough actually. I'm now running four Rythmiks; a pair of FVX15s and a pair of L12s in the rear, and have more overhead than need. With a room the size of yours, I'd go with a pair of 18s.

      For a room that size I'd recommend either dual FVX12s (ported) or L12s (sealed). Both options would give you better results than a single FVX15. Dual FVX15s would be overkill for a room that size. Always go dual.

I encourage dual subs because it makes integration better and subsequently providing a smoother bass response throughout your room. Dual L12s are plenty loud but FVX12s would be even louder. • @PolkFan
      @PolkFan  Před 4 lety

      How do you run them nearfield without running sub wires across the room? I thought about trying that configuration but don't wanna deal with the headache of running and concealing two 50ft (exaggerating) sub cables across the room - and if it's even worth the effort. Having two of these beasts is simple amazing in current configuration.

    • @Ctripp2448
      @Ctripp2448 Před 4 lety +2

      PolkFan I run mine along the wall with floor management cable runs. You can make them or find one close to your floor color online that hides your cables. It is some work but the payoff is huge. You lose a lot of output the farther you are away from the sub. Once you put the sub nearfield you will gain a ton of output and tactile response. In other words you will feel the sub hit in your chest and the couch will shake a lot more with low bass. Another plus is you take a lot of the dips and nulls in your room away when the sub is nearfield. When the sub is up front or corners of room you will have a lot of dips in your frequency response. So you are listening to your room modes more than the sub. So once it is nearfield the bass will be cleaner as well. You need to download room eq wizard on laptop and you will see the response in your room for the subs. Then buy you a minidsp so that you can eq your subs. A lot of work but a big payoff in sound quality and output

    • @Ctripp2448

      PolkFan this is a good read showing you the response between far field and near field sub. It shows you the frequency response of each. Notice the greater spl and much flatter response.

    I am enjoying my S60's and had a friend over who said "you have too much dude for this room" Lol....Watching your videos and these dual 12's and now this monster I have figured something important out. It's not size or power at all. It's sub design. I am the proud owner of a Polk RSW250 8 inch dual cone (250 peak) sub and the dual ports are going out the back. I have enjoyed this mini beast since about 1988 Lol I finally watched a placement video and basically you just move it ever so slightly away from a corner and you find the "sweet" spot of the room not the speaker. Oh, MAN I had to turn this way down and I'm going into my Marantz and turning the DB down on the Sub channel too for this antique Lol Bass is a reflective sound. Too much and you're cancelling it out I have found. It's a hard test to do by yourself but, I did it. Video's here on You Tube. Thanks again for the original video to get the S60's ;)

    • @PolkFan
      @PolkFan  Před 4 lety

      Man that's awesome! After trying different configurations in my room, I've found that the subs sound best closer to the center of the room - at least with my setup. It gives you more of a nearfield sound rather than a reflective/corner sound - which transpires to a cleaner response, as opposed to a boomier response. Plus when you have a proper room calibration you can really benefit from moving the subs closer to the center. My Yamaha 2080 EQs the subs separately and does an awesome job at doing so. The low-end of both Rythmiks is ridiculously clean and pure sweetness.

Just my 2 cent... get the FVX15HP, which is Plenty. If it turns out that you want more, get a second down the line. I started with one FVX15, which was plenty on it's own. They both have pros and cons. I'm a fan of active because the power source is already provided and they include built-in crossovers, protection, EQ, and so forth. The drawback is you're limited to the amount of power provided by the amp plate. With a passive, you can control how much power you put in it and can possibly maximize the woofer moreso than you could with a built-in amp on an active subwoofer. The drawback to passive of course is having to add external power, which could be costly, and the risk of damaging your sub if you give it too much power.

Near fielding subs can be very rewarding in the right setup. I have two of these FVX15s up front, and dual Rythmik L12s in the rear, and the sound is phenomenal. For my room, If I had to pick between front or rear I'd go with the rear. They seem to integrate better in the rear and can be very tactile. The L12s alone without the 15s sound really good in the back of my room. So again, it's not a guarantee that they'll sound good in the rear but I highly encourage trying both front and rear and stick with the best outcome.

I'm in the same boat and can only go full-throttle when I get the house to myself. Man, I love to hear when someone does research. Too many people fail to do any research and just go by what someone else says - I call them brand-wagon buyers. You're on the money. And a great reference with the Rythmiks being the endgame. Well said because once you experience them you will want none other. It took me a minute to try different configurations and calibrations, and so forth, being that they're more sophisticated subs. But once you find that sweet spot, and trust me, you'll know when you get it; there's nothing like it. Rythmiks' implementation of servo technology really separates them from the rest.

      @@PolkFan Yup..same here man. More than the neighbours who havent complained yet, its the wife. Once she was taking a shower, I thought it wud be a good time to test the john wick scene where he pounds his floor with a sledge hammer. She screamed at me from the washroom , saying what the fuck are you doing, everything is shaking in here. 😂😂
      Polk S60s are really good, on paper they extend to about the same level as my dayton subs, which are really really good btw, but I do notice a big difference with the subs on. The best setting I found was with fronts set to large and subwoofer set to plus so the lfe goes to both the sub and thw fronts with others crossed over at 80. Daytons are great budget subs, If they can pull off war of the worlds, especially for the money, they are great. I am not sure I wanna get ryrhmiks till I get a house, I would have to run them in second gear most of the time in my apartment, coz of wife and neighbors factor.
      Coming back to the point, I read a lot about the importance of dual subs to get more even and better bass and to break down standing waves, I was skeptical at first, but when I added the second dayton..my mind was blown. Bass felt so much more even, cinematic and smooth..movie theater like. I think when people shop for subs, they should always think if they can afford two of the subs they wanna buy imstead of going all in on one mega expensive sub.

Too often do people lose sight of how acoustics work; there's no such thing as a "cookie cutter" design of how your system is "supposed" to be set up and therefore speaker placement will vary between rooms - as a result, the sole purpose of room calibration in audio receivers is to make adjustment to give you the best sound given your speaker placement.
