FliteTest amazing work, keep it up
FliteTest you should make a Ft peton pole

is your dad dead?..just asking
"Do a barrel roll!"
Great video Josh!
How much hot glue did you use on this one?
Vax Buster or did he use duct tape xd
xD
Vax Buster let's hope he laminated it
And what motor is that, nitro?
Model A Ford car, circa around 1930.
This is the video that made me appreciate that humans found a way to fly at all.
We saw a bird and didn't think "What a pity we can never do that". Instead, we made this experience available to everyone.
Even flying a model with a camera gives you the sense that you have power over gravity, and it is something that I truly love.
Amazing. My dad got me into flying as well. We now own a Cessna, I'm training him for his instrument rating, and having the time of our lives. Thank you for this.
Josh you may not say you're an emotional person, but one emotion you display constantly is kindness, all the time. You're incredible, we all love you!
Kindness is more of a virtue than emotion
Your childhood is the childhood I dreamed of in my childhood.

what a hearthwarming video, Josh you have an amazing obsession. If all of the "new generall aviation content" is going to be like this I´ll tune in for sure
the guy on every future house video thanks brother. I have a feeling it will only get better. Mainly because we are going to feature people from the FT family more than ourselves. Great days ahead friend.
Josh Bixler thank you for taking the time to answer, I'll be watching, but you set a pretty high standards with your awesome story. I might inherit my Grandfathers planes myself, which would be an amazing opportunity for me to get in touch with aviation in full scale, which was a dream for me since I was a small kid.
Keep up the great Work :)
i'm with you. this excites me to no end.
I would love to do what you are doing. I flown L-19's but I wish I could build one like yours, but my time has come and gone as I am now disabled.
Now it needs a .50 cal browning mounted on the front
MG42s
Dude you dont know how more powerfull a .50cal is compare to the mg42
i feel like somebody NEEDS to make a plane version of laser tag for pilots
DoNotEvenTry true as hell mate, but one thing the mg42 has is that sweet firerate, and you can fit more ammunition, if you were dogfighting these, the mg42 would be a good choice, especially since you really don't need a .50 bmg to rip it apart.
well, you would spent less time on target as you would DESTROY the airplane faster, therefore you can get away from the risk of being sniped whilst shooting. and since you spend less time on target, you can move on to OTHER targets, and if you are flying in a complex dogfight this is a vital skill.
I want to experience what pilots experience back in the 30s and 40s. Me *steps into flak gun* Also me: "Good Bye"
Neonboi3000 yo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s an underrated comment
I'l be your loader

great video, my respect for you Josh.
Great stuff guys!
FlightChops, you are cool.
FlightChops I watch your stuff all the time. I'm a Canadian to
Oh Canada
Flightchops when are you going to fly a Pietenpul!?
Looked like a lot of fun!
Im emotional im crying. What a great speech😭😭😭😭😭😭
You need to start a new channel: Flitetest 1:1
Dave Webster love that title friend!
Ahh Thanks!
I loved watching this video, you could hear in your voice the love and passion that you have for all thing aeronautical which must have been passed on from spending time with your father he definitely passed the baton on to you.
Now you are spreading that passion on to so many other with your great channel including myself, I've build a few of your foam board planes myself now but I must admit the next stage does feel like I need to get back into flying real planes, as a youth I flew a few times in the ATC and loved it and watching all your great videos has reignited my passion once again.
I'm so sure you father would be so proud of what you've done here so thanks from all of us novices and keep up the great work!
P.S don't be alarmed but Peters channels nearly at 100k subs looks like you've definitely started something special with him!! :D
Or just title anything that involves real planes (1:1)
^^^^THIS!
Speed build kit? ;)
RCFlightReviews coming first week in February!
will these full scale videos be scheduled regularly or just be occasional releases? can't wait for more!
They will kind of be both! We are hoping to release a couple a month.
Perhaps more in the future if the opportunity and demand presents itself. -Austin
FliteTest can you give me tips for flying in slow and wind please because that is what I struggle with when flying rc
hi
This story was emotional and your passion just pours out in this video for sure. Absolutely wonderful!
3:04 WHAT A BEAUTIFUL ENGINE OH MY GODDDD
What make and model is that radial? Are they relatively affordable?
Awesome story Josh! I met the guys from Flite Test yesterday at the Sebring Air Expo in Florida. They were all super nice and down to earth. Often times when people become successful they forget where they come from. They were all truly humble by the attention they received from their followers. Wishing them continued success.
Thanks Brother! It was great to meet you!
It's so clear to me how unbelievably happy you are in this video. And your passion really comes through, and talking about your dad and your kids and "making memories" is really heartwarming. Thanks for such a positive video.
You sir are a credit to the US during troubled times, a lesson in humility for all Americans and I'm guessing a massive inspiration to folks like me across the pond. I watched FlightTest grow over the years. Just amazing! Thank you! Enjoy!!!
I got chills watching this Josh. I don't get that often. You and the people at Flite Test are an inspiration. Thanks for all you do.
Josh, you've inspired me to get into the hobby. ever since my grandpa took me into his plane I was inspired, so I searched for videos on planes and there it was, flitetest. I started watching your beginners series and as soon as I watched it I wanted to get into the hobby
as soon as I saw it. I begged my dad and my mom and researched every day as soon I got home from school. For 2 whole months I researched and watched every single upload since then and when Christmas morning came, I was the happiest 11-year old on the planet! I got the plane I wanted for 2 months, the apprentice. Today I wouldn't be neer the hobby without flitetest and my aviation hero Josh Bixler! Thanks flitetest
YES THE APPRENTICE!!!!! I havent been on any type of plane since I was six years old, I am fourteen now. I just started the RC hobby. I got the apprentice for my fourteenth birthday, but a few weeks later my mom got me the champ for 80 bucks. I am still learning, and I hope I get to fly the Apprentice soon! One day I dream of going for the flight program at Morris Knolls High School and getting a pilots license and making an ultralight like josh did. Happy flying, -Diego A.
A fellow who was not a pilot built one of these in my hometown of Quincy, FL. He did great work but crashed it onto the top of his own hangar when he tried to maiden it without any training. Amazingly he was not hurt but was obviously mad and sold it as a wreck.
lmao
maxsmodels lol
maxsmodels what an idiot
@Martin Yeah but the wright brothers learned from their mistakes and tried again. They didn't give up like a pussy.
@Gator Hogg creationists and republicans piss me off. Specially ones who bring up politics over nothing. I bet you are a creationist, cos only creationists would be that eager to go political.
when I was a baby growing up my dad would take me everywhere that has airplanes. we would go flying every father's day, go to air shows, go to airports that belongs to his friends and I would even watch him work on an engine and fuel tank of a plane and help him by getting his tools and such. My dad is now an aviation technician for the Canadian armed forces and I am studying to do robotics and on the side, cars and aircrafts. Rarely now I get to see my dad, but when I do we plan to go big when it comes to spending time together, going to airplane museums and warplane museums, reliving the past but in the future kind of way where we remember what it was like back then and trying a new experience now. So it makes me relate to this guy that he has bonded on airplanes with his dad like how I bonded with my dad
This made me cry... I was watching flightTest when it came out years ago, got out of the hobby and am getting back into it. I loved this. Thanks Josh
I enjoyed that Josh and sent the link to my Dad, he turned 81 Friday.
Fantastic Josh! I really enjoyed that. Nice production and GREAT footage!
Cheers friend!
I’m all teary eyed. I want to share my passion for aviation with my little man. This story totally cut to the core and really made me think of how much aviation has really meant to me my whole life. I may not have a similar story but I did spend A LOT of time at my grandparents masonry business as a young man which was located on a local airport. I flew in all the cesna’s I could and even piper scouts and helicopters. Had the amazing opportunity to play in another business owners restored TBM Avenger like a playground! Thanks so much for sharing and maybe someday I too can build one of these with my son!
I really love your work and your whole vision for FliteTest. I have to say I'm a fan of yours and you were one of the few people who's "been there" for me during my time of getting hooked and just really feeling that connection to aviation. May your work prosper, pal. God Bless
Josh, so good to see this emotional piece from you, really really good - Thank you.
This is still my favorite video from FT its the one that introduced me to the channel. Keep up the great content you are appreciated!
Absolutely wonderful video. My Dad also taught me to fly. He wasn't a very talkative guy but we always bonded quietly around airplanes. Later in life we owned a PA-22 and flew together long after he'd lost his medical. Best memories ever. Thanks for this. Richard from Nova Scotia
Josh, your video and especially your words, I have never heard the pure unadultrated sense of joy of flying expressed better anywhere. The capper for me is your infectious pleasure in wanting to share this experience. Well done, very well done!
Beautiful!
Beautiful Aircraft,
Beautiful Story,
Beautiful Flight,
Beautiful Person,
Just Beautiful!
Thank You!
2 points.
$10k is extremely cheap!
Also why are you in the back seat instead of the front?
all those kind of planes are like that, the boss seat is the rear one
He needs to sit in the back because that’s the center of gravity. If he was flying with a passenger, he could sit in the front.
Agent J, he just doesn’t know the reason, and he’s simply asking
Probably because back seats are safer in crash.
Weight and balance and visibility when taxiing is far greater from the rear seat ☺️
Outstanding vid! Owned a Baby Ace a number of years ago and loved it. You've now got me interested in in buying a Pete. Your passion for the plane is contagious!
great video
My dad was a Navy aircraft carrier pilot, after he retired he took me up in a Cessna 175 and let me takeover the controls for a while and it was truly a memory Ill nrever forget , now I fly RC electric models and learned a lot from my Dad.
Oh yes, I fell it and I am not even in it , but I have always wanted to fly a slow vintage airplane.
Thanks for sharing you and your dad with us.
Mike Fifer
wish I could make a plane someday!
Same
Same
And good luck!
I will
One day when I have money and live alone I will try to make one
There is nothing that beats the feeling of your first solo. Your flying skills must be particularly special to fly with that radiator blocking your forward view. Great video. Thank you!
A hundred million likes from Italy, thank you Josh for pursuing your passion day by day and sharing!
in every word you say in this video we can only think about PASSION. thank you again!
*FANTASTIC* Gratulation and You fly in formation very nice all the best from Switzerland , for 2017 greetings Tom
RCHeliJet thanks. Goofy goggle portion was the first time. So exciting and learned so much. I have great friends and teachers.
This video is inspiring. Ever since I've first gone on an airplane, I was fascinated by aviation and I now want to become a pilot when I am old enough. I also wanted to get into RC aircraft but I am still saving for parts.
Like you, I flew my first solo flight when I was 16. A few years ago I built a Sonex in my garage from a set of plans...my first scratch build. Flying an airplane I built was and still is an incredible experience. The folks I've met in the homebuilt community are awesome. Loved this video.
one of the cool things on this channel is : you can feel the passion , just by seeing those builds
Very nice vid, Josh. Thanks.
Awesome. I always wanted a kit built airplane. Will keep this in mind. (probably won't use that engine though. That rotary looked cool.)
The radial, while exceedingly awesome in sound and performance, is pretty much the most expensive way to power a piet. They gulp oil, aren't the most fuel efficient, and are a lot heavier than boxer engines, not to mention the extra drag. For practicality I'd look at the corvair engine aero conversion. Power to weight it's a much better engine than the radial. I know what you're getting at though, and if I built one it would probably have a radial :)
onjoFilms Sorry, its not rotary, its radial, and they are expensive
@Vit Ah yes, slip up. @Keegan - Thanks for the info.
I've seen the corvair conversion and its pretty solid. There's also a VW bug engine conversion that's a bit peppier. (you can mod the engine by adding bigger jugs and quad carbs/fuel injection.)
Wonderful video of you showing your airplane, and hearing the stories about you and your dad.
Been living in Maine for 7 years now but lived right up the
road from Barber in Atwater. What a flashback! Really
enjoying Flite Test. Thanks for all you do.
Josh... you have to make me cry, why.
How come I can see this but it's unlisted???
I'm wondering the same
I didn't even know this channel was still making videos xD I was watching a year ago
They're making more video's a week than ever before
HamnavoePer YT maybe it was made unlisted after it was posted, so while the subscription alerts were going around, they were stopped from being unlisted, see we are the lucky ones to have this video in our sub boxes.
Having fun on minmus?
OMG, Josh, I'm so happy for you!!!
I'm a big fan of the show and I learned a lot from you guys! Keep on, very single one of you. Greetings from Germany :-)
A beautiful film. The smile on your face in the air says everything.
Hey thats cool but that radiator position makes me nervous
Rex Holes
Some might even say it's... _rad!_
Rex Holes these things have been flying for going on 90 years, it doesnt seem to have been an issue yet.
I might say that forcing you to look around all the time, in the end it might even be safer ;-) But I agree, it must be pretty frustrating to have that thing in front.
Seems like below and behind the prop would be better. Maybe it has to be higher than the engine?
@@The_Real_Indiana_Joe those engines i think use the heat risinng an cooler water sinking to circulate the coolant
wich you like more?
fly models or fly this?
We are passionate about EVERYTHING flight related! They are both equally as important to BOTH hobbies( RC and GA)
Thanks for watching guys!
S.O.
Master Max yay you got a reply!
This is such an inspiration to me!
My grandfather first got me into flying in his cesna when I was 8. I will never be the same!
Keep posting you guys are amazing!
Looks like you are having mega fun flying it. Fair winds and clear skies!
what kind of crazy people dislike a video like this?
Stacey Abshire people who hate overly scripted films
Beats me my friend! ha But I am probably biased ;)
LOL! Maybe a little bit :D
jklllllll
exactly. My first reaction was, I want to do this also and second, who the hell is so bitter to dislike this video.
I'm soo hooked :D 🐑❤🐑
Josh, fantastic. I started flying models with my big brother when I was 12 or so. We got our pilots licenses when we were olde enough to drive. He built a Pietenpol for his first airplane, and I started a Piet project quite a while ago. The project has kind of stalled, but your video has inspired me. I've always enjoyed FliteTest, and to see we have another connection with the Piet is amazing to me. I've only been up in my brother's pietenpol once, and you couldn't wipe the smile off my face for days. Thank you for sharing your life and love of aviation! I just noticed that my profile pic is of me sitting in my brother's Piet in his garage :)
Mike Eldredge please keep us posted on your progress friend. :)
I've been watching y'all for years... very much you all have inspired and motivated me to believe in my dreams, my future, "FLIGHT".
Can't wait to get into the air...started with heli's, airplanes, now drones in general. See you all above the clouds.
so motivating
Very nice video....!
Thank you for watching!

Such a lovely film. Congratulations. Your understated love for your father come through as equally as your passion for flying. Brilliant film making.
What passion! Thanks Josh. Your testimony is similar to mine. Your video puts a big smile on my face. You have a gift to tell a great story. Thank you for sharing.
Honestly..I thought this was going to be some click bait, but nooo. This is awesome.
It's great to see your passion for flying! It's something that a lot of people won't understand. I quit skydiving years ago due to an injury. Swore I would never do it again. I returned to skydiving last year and love every second of it.
This was the first RC plane my dad built and flew. We had the same experiences with the little version. Super easy, reliable, stable, and hearty little plane. Thanks for posting!
if I could get on this plane
Could we get music credits for this video?
My grandfather took me flying in his home built planes when I was little and they are some of my favourite memories and now that he's gone I think I'm gonna have to build one of these if I ever have children thanks for the uplifting video guys much appreciated ✌🏼️
I did a few flights with Forest in his Taylorcraft back when I was doing my private pilot training. What a guy! Peered inside your hanger every chance it was open, always thought peits were such cool planes. I used to live about half an hour down 77 from alliance, I had no idea you guys were based so close. Keep up the good work, and may the sky never truly be your limit!
Giving me some battlefield vibes if he had a machine gun on it
Love the music, what song is it?
Bravo young man! You really are quite courageous. God Bless You; I pray. Your dad definitely deserves lots of appreciation.
This is such a great production. it moved me to tears. Great story, great filming and great script. Thanks for making it. Dads are great by the way.
You gotta fly with Peter now that he's got his plane in the air haha.
Actually Tasteful Productions they can have a dogfight
"I'm not an emotional person" Liar! We've seen you tear up before in videos! :-)
Joey duncan ok, you got me. :)
It's so cool to see other Aviation channels watching and supporting other channels
Go Josh! Great to see your passion (and fun!) for all things flight-related.
When does the build video come out?
onebladeprop over the next 3 years friend. :)
Awesome video. Is there a radio in the plane to let people know when you are landing or taking off?
AND GPS ?
Depends on the airport you fly in and out of. If you have a field with no tower and fly in class g airspace you don't need a radio. In fact you don't need an electrical system on your plane if you do not fly at night. Most aircraft engines run on a magneto so no battery is needed to run the engine (like a b$s lawn moter). There are many hand held aircraft band transceivers a pilot can use when operating in controlled airspace. Some have air nav features (vor).
But this plane is likely setup for day light flying low and slow sightseeing. Flying just for the fun of it. Not trying to get anywhere fast at all.
Thanks!
Im blown away. That is one NICE Pitenpol!!!
Josh...I LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH...I'm currently one year into my Pietenpol build. Amazing that so many pilots have similar experiences and pasts. As a child of the 80's I lived and died building & flying RC planes, like yourself. Today I fly for a living and it's all because of RC planes. Now I'm going to build one controlled by "human servos" ;)
What music was used in this video?
Epo foam?
This is so beautiful and perfect! I've been binging a lot of Flite Test videos lately, having recently found the RC hobby again... but I had no clue Josh has his actual rating. A friend of mine has a Pietenpol that his dad built. It still flies around the mountains of Maine, taking off tricky airstrips with an upgraded engine and bush wheels!
Hi Josh,
From another pilot with his own plane, I can relate with you, 100%. No one knows what it's like until one experiences it. Flying in a formation is all inspiring.
My second and last airplane, to date was my Grumman Yankee. A 2 seater, and a really fun plane, if you like the feeling of speed. There were 4 of us, many years ago, all in our own small 2 seater Grumman's, flying from Dallas to an Oklahoma gold resort, just for the $100 hamburger at the restaurant. I too, got flying pictures. Fantastic!
Plane ownership is beyond anything else we own in this world. I am retired today, and no longer have my Yankee, having sold it many years ago, but the memories live on forever.
I will mention here that I I began my model aviation over 40 years ago with control line. Then in High School, and through college, I flew RC. I still fly RC today, where Pattern is my passion. I have enjoyed your Flite Test videos as well. You are very good for our hobby, and your varied aviation experiences is an added boost. Keep it up, and I look forward to meeting you and your crew, one day, maybe in south Florida. Our club, The Palm Beach Radio Control Association in Boca Raton, is the largest AMA Club in America with over 500 members. We do have everything, from control line, to jets, and a hard surface to boot.
Thanks for your video, and with your input, Flite Test, and you in the President's chair, will continue to do very well. Good Luck to you, and your Flite Test association of talented individuals.
No More Down Wind, and Dead Stick here,
D. Swenson
What is the song in the background ?
I have the same cuestion
Serious question: What happens if the engine fails?
djokawari My guess is even if he loses the engine and glides down without a proper landing spot, with a plane that size he could probably crash into a few trees at around 50 mph and be alright lol. Not a lot of inertia with those things.
Squiddi it would be able to fly a lot slower than that.
djokawari the real problem is if the wings, elevators fail, anything else is probably survivable
"probably survivable" sounds fun
djokawari you are definitley new to aviation
Very cool Josh! I also grew up bonding w/ my Dad thru flight - learned to fly in a BC-12-D while in high school. I built a KR-2, but my brother built a Sky Scout. All unforgettable memories that shaped my future just like yours.
Truly a beautiful video guys. I always love hearing josh's stories
This reminds me of battlefield 1
Faisal J Dude, stop comparing anything this awesome to that terrible rape of history . Please.
Standing outside the plane with the engine roaring, you got balls, what if the brakes let go :S
Jesper Andersson there are no brakes! Only wheel chalks! -Alex
only brakes on a piet are your feet, the rpm gage is a note saying is the prop still spinning?
Chocks, surely?
Josh ..... been following you guys for a bunch of years ...... congrats on getting the Pietenpol finished and airborne ...... you've come a long way Brother ........... JRW

Here after "african Technologies compilation"
Great video ! - You fulfilled a dream that many of us share - to own our own aircraft ! It doesn't matter what it is, as long as it takes us to the sky. I've been flying since the late 1970's, but have just now started working on building something that is MINE ! Congrats on a beautiful airplane and an inspiring story. Thanks for sharing !
Wow behind the wheel experience, awesome Josh!
