ello Dave it's me again, great progress on the layout, just a small suggestion for the name of the gardens on the western end of the layout: the Royal Dean Gardens! hope you like, cheers, brad.
Just been spending the last few days working through this channel. This is a really really well thought out and presented layout. First class modelling. I'm very familiar with Waverley and this certain has the flavour of that station. Thanks for sharing and I'm looking forward to seeing it progress even further. If I can do as well with my Perth interpretation, I'll be delighted! Keep it up!
Hi Scott,Thanks for your comment and I am glad you see/feel a bit of Waverley has been added into my station. I do enjoy thinking things through before rushing into them, so to hear you think its been well thought out is appreciated. Dave
Love your videos Dave, another great update! That class 37 is a handsome loco too, i've put the forthcoming Mary Queen of Scots on my wish list. Your layout & Richard's Everard Junction are stunning examples of the hobby & are what encouraged me to get back into it, although, if i even achieve half of the level of detail & quality of finish that you both have i'll be very happy!
Hi Dave Watched all your vids over a month, a fantastic and very methodical effort! You’re right to put ‘finished’ in inverted quotes - I started my layout with a 2 year time frame for ‘completion’, 11 years on, ‘finishing’ seems as far away as ever, but it’s been a great journey and yours obviously is as well. Hope you don’t get tired of videoing your progress! Best, Stephan.
Hi Stephen, thanks for getting in touch. Really glad you like my methodical approach. My ethos is that I'd rather get it right by taking my time than rush it and have to re do it several times! - we are all guilty of that sometimes though!! Have you got layout videos to share? Dave
Nice update, I think Simon Jones did a little video tutorial quite awhile ago on painting a bridge and I think he used drybrushing, but I could be wrong lol. That's going to be one neat control panel! Cheers, Michael
Another great video. Painting and dry brushing brickwork was done in one of the BRM Right Track series of DVDs (No. 7). It was the video on structures by Geoff Taylor. Recommended.
Good to see you're back in the loft again Dave for another few months of updates. My channel has a couple of examples of the methods I have used to do my plasticard brichwork. I claim no originality as these are ideas that I have collected over the years. I haven't used any dry brushing yet as I am not very good at it! Most of the weathering is done with pigments which are sealed with matt varnish....John
Looking good Dave! Regarding brickwork, I've found that weathering powders are quite good with the embossed plasticard as they highlight the areas between the bricks. This would be followed up with a spray of matt varnish. I hope this helps. cheers, Joe
I've Only Watched The First 5 Very Impressive Minutes Dave, Before I Had To Comment "Perfection" Is The Only Word To Use To Sum Up All That You Do! If It's Not Perfect 100% It Doesn't Stay For Long On Your Layout & Even If It's 100% It's Not Long Before It's Upgraded To A Better Bit Of Kit, Track Or Rolling Stock, You Set The Standard That Others Follow! Well Done 10/10 *
In the past I've used Presion paints Engineering brick blue, it looks very good. For the mortar use a tinned down grey or white paint, touch it onto the mortar lines and capillary action draws it along. If you want to be super picky go for Flemish bond embossed brick sheet from Slaters.
Great update with your future plans. With regards to your fiddle/storage yard I would save the cash and rely on the "hand of god" to change the points. At least then you know the out of sight point/points are set correctly before the train moves. At the most I would use rods and levers if access allows. Look forward to your regular updates with progress.
Brilliant video and I've been loving the How-To videos. When the time is appropriate, could you do a video on how to weather track? Thanks in advance, David.
cracking update, out of interest, what is the height difference board to board between the lower running lines and the upper loops, as I'm considering adding an upper section on a layout I'm devising :-) many thanks for all your videos they certainly are informative
Hello sir! You could angle your control panel so it's facing you and at a 45 degree angle to the base, if that makes sense. I reckon that will look good. But don't cover it with too much, that shiny surface - too nice to cover up!
Hi, I did try and angle it when I was playing around with designs, but believe it or not the lights from the roof along with the silver it gave a glare. So I had to have it flat. cheers. Dave
Looking good mate some really good ideas love the idea of the retaining wall and cut outs round the incline did you get a chance to take a look at my diorama videos with my different rock faces because I think the wash technique I used can also be used on stone and brick walls I got the idea from woodland scenics video on there channel on here? Looking forward to see the outcome of your next works.
Great update. If it helps I did a tutorial called "How to paint and weather retaining walls" in 2013 on CZcams. When I was putting together my layouts retaining walls. Hope this helps you? A question on your inclines. I may take mine out when I extend the layout. What length do you require to do your height. The inclines have to be very gradual. Thanks Richard
Hi, it took 11ft to rise to 95mm (sorry I know I am mixing units here!). The locos can haul an 8 coach up there no problem. Its just the HST, with 8 driving wheels (not 12 as per a class 37, 47, etc) with those lit MK3's that struggles if its not going fast enough! I have referred to you video many a time lol. What colour of grey did you use for the engineers blue brick kind of finish? Really like your layout. Its one of my 'go to' layouts for inspiration and enjoyment. It's really Good stuff. Cheers. Dave
Carefully!! I have a small vacuum but prefer to use a fine brush that you use to clean the lenses of a camera...it has a small puffer on it so it can blow away debris. They are about £2 but I use one to dust the platforms etc and another to dust my rolling stock and locos. Dave
Dave you realy are making a great job of your layout, always look forward to your updates, have you thought of using Gabions as earth retainers on lower embankments? I bought some pre printed card ones some time ago, which Ive stored so safely i cant find at the moment but im fairly sure they were Busch.
I am a first time modeller and I am preparing to fit point motors. I want to do a track plan like yours on a board with switches attached. How can I do a track plan like that?
Hi, I used Microsoft Publisher and just drew lines, made them thick enough and made it look good....then when I was happy I just printed it out on sticky back vinyl.
My vids & pics not on social media (need to take some more recent ones..) Think you need to be pretty methodical if you're posting processes on youtube - I've certainly moved away from the short cuts I used to take! One thing I did fairly meticulously was fit 25kv masts + catenary (JV Lybe equipment) to main lines + loops, a task I wouldn't recommend to anyone (!) but glad it's (mostly) done - think you're probably right not to fit the catenary though, especially as your loco fleet is predominantly diesel.
lots of work ahead Dave... i like the switches on your panel, nice touch. Look forward to seeing the progress over the winter months.
It just gets better and better and better, Dave. Looks like plenty of work ahead for the Winter months. Cheers, Bob
I like to keep busy lol! Dave
ello Dave it's me again, great progress on the layout, just a small suggestion for the name of the gardens on the western end of the layout: the Royal Dean Gardens! hope you like, cheers, brad.
Brad Wright nice!! I shall take a note of that one! Cheers.
Looking good Dave fantastic attention to detail as usual cheers Ty
Good update David ...you sure have got it looking 1st class with more to add ..Dave
Great video - looking forward to future updates with the cuttings and town.

superb layout my favorite era .
Another cracking and informative video. Your quality is enviable. Barry. Devon.
Thanks Barry. I do try and get the best quality I can. ;-) Dave
Great update mate, have seen Terry's video on Glebe Road Junction on painting his retaining wall, easy to follow and works well Andy
Hi Dave your layout is coming on great you do fantastic work mate, it's a pleasure to watch your videos well done.
Another cracking video Dave, many thanks.
Good planning. The cuttings sound fun. I like the idea of a town scene too. Nice update. Rob
Cheers Rob

WOW! Thanks for that great comment. I am a bit of a perfectionist, it can get good results sometimes lol. So glad you enjoy what I do. Cheers. Dave
Another great video Dave watched every one keep them coming
Thanks! Dave

HI, thanks for that. I will order some of that paint and have a practice! I thought the mortar was more of a grey for the engineers blue, Cheers.Dave

The hand of god is currently employed part time on fiddle yard duty. He will not be made redundant any time soon! lol. Dave
The layout looks great as always. I wish I could keep my layout as clean as yours.
Brilliant video and I've been loving the How-To videos. When the time is appropriate, could you do a video on how to weather track? Thanks in advance, David.
hi....ok, I will try and remember this for a future video! ;-) Dave
Great update.
looking great

Volmer did them....but they are no longer available. ;-(
Your layout is looking really good, quick question, what printer did you use for the Scalescenes kits?
Hi, I used my dads small laser, but a ink jet works just as well, but needs sealed more with varnish! Dave
did u use metxlafe stn

Subtitles? where?
Hi Dave.
I sent you a PM regarding this video.
