- I broke a bolt off in my 1997 k1500 distributor. To replace it was over 130. Didnt really want to do that so i decided to figure something out. I drilled out the broken bolt, mixed up some JB Weld and covered the old hole and surround area. Let it sit overnight. The next day i tried fitting the cap on with the screws, it worked well.

maybe use a 1.25" long #6 screw with a washer and a nut. washer goes under the distributor
Dorman 90449 Distribution Repair Plate
Johnny5 thank you for sharing this. Simplest fix no doubt
I have the same problem on a 97 Chevy express 1500 van , the screw hole is cracked and the distributor cap moves around and that makes the check engine light to come on and also it makes the van get bad gas mileage,
just discovered this problem 5 minutes ago. ughhhhh
Just noticed mine when i was gonna check the rotor, got a bad misfire, check engine light on. Couple codes came up. MAF sensor and p300. 😏
Did you use the technique in this video or did you buy a new distributor?
rosincore i just bought a new one, i haven't installed it yet, but i used that repair plate they sell at the auto parts store.
@@JaimeGarciaisnumberone I am in a dilemma as of rn while the repair plate costs $22 but the whole distributor cots around 40 , what should I do?
@@JORGE4757S im still using the repair plate. I just sold the distributor.
it's a good repair trick and will save a lot of money, but it would have been nice if you had said what drill bit and the tap size you used. thanks
Erica Ellingwood, yes I should have. I didn't think of it at the time. thanks for the suggestion!
I will remember that for another video. Thanks for your input!
