The Role of Women in Basilan's Peace

The journey towards Peace is definitely hard especially in places like Basilan, a place where rebels and militants used to have a strong foothold. But after 16 years the island is now transformed, enjoying peace and working hard to maintain it.
We had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Arlyn Jawad, known as 'Mama Doc,' of Save the Children of War of Basilan foundation. Mama Doc's remarkable efforts extend beyond healing the wounds of war in children; she also extends her support to former rebels, aiding them in their journey towards peace. One such individual is Suwada Asnawie, whose dedication to promoting a gun-free culture is a testament to the power of positive change.
Mayor Sitti Hataman, the dynamic leader of Isabela, shares her insights on the critical role played by the local government in maintaining peace and stability in Basilan. Together, we explore how collaboration, compassion, and empowerment are driving the movement for peace in this resilient island community.
