    This is the most clear and concise video that I have found, and I have watched a TON of videos on how to troubleshoot my snowblower not starting. My next-door-neighbor gave me his snowblower before he moved. It started up, ran for a couple of minutes, made a "pop", then died. I will be using your troubleshooting tips to diagnose it and (hopefully) get it running again. Kudos on some great tips!

    WOW !!! my husband was just shy of bringing our exact blower into the shop because of the exact same issue. He watched your video and went out in the garage and undid the bowl bolt and drained some gas for about 30 seconds. The bolt went back in, he primed it, used the electric start and the second try it kicked right over. He let it run for about 5 min, and turned it off. He then tried with the pull start and on the first pull it kicked right over. Thank you, I am sure it saved us at least $100.

    Hey Brad great video I'm new to your channel I have a 26 year old MTD 5hp tecumseh snowblower. I use to have this problem periodically and once I switched to non ethanol gas I haven't had a problem since. The ethanol is what gums up the carbs on these small engines. I still drain all my gas out of my snowblower at the end of the season and drop the bowl to clean it, since using the non ethanol gas the bowl is always clean. I spray the inside of the carb with WD40 and put the bowl back on and haven't had any carb problems for years now. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge with us I feel it truly makes myself and others more confident in taking on the problem at hand.

      Exactly. DO NOT USE ethanol gasoline in small engines! If you must, run the gas out of it and drain the bowl when done using it for the season. Ethanol gas will gum up carbs after several months if not before.

  • @martinhuang8659

    Thank you, Brad! Learning from your video, I drained the carburetor. And the snow blower could be started. The drained gas appeared two layers. The upper layer was clear while the bottom layer was opaque and light yellow. My snow blower is three years old. I couldn't start it this winter. The oil is about 10 mm higher than the top, but it was added by the manufactory. I exchanged a new spark plug. The same problem. I left it in the living room to warm it, but the next day the issue was still there. I called the authorized repair shop; he told me the carburetor need to be rebuilt for $150. The Home Depot called they need 4-6 weeks to repair it and $30 for inspection first. I had to try myself. I carefully watched your video, judged my issue and reasoned it step by step. I thought maybe there is some gas in the oil. But I decided to flush the carburetor first because it's easy. Then it worked. I was very happy. The oil is very clean, clear. So, I decided not to replace it. Last spring, before off-season storage, I only sucked fuel from the tank with a tube pump. I rushed to use home machines without reading the manual and had no idea about letting the engine using up the fuel before storage. I read the manual carefully and ran my mower and leaf blower till the gas was used up. This would be a correct storing operation. Thank you again. I like your video, so clear, so logical, effective and concise! 👍👍👍

    Thank you for this great video. Your explanations are crystal clear, and it happens that this is my snowblower with the same no-start issue. The trick which worked @5:18 was pulling the side plug from the float pan to let the gas run into the carburetor. It helped to tip the snowblower onto its opposite side in order to get the plug back in, but your helpful idea got it started.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 7 měsíci

      I’m not sure exactly what you’re talking about but if I think you’re talking about the electric starter? It may be loose? I have not seen a electric starter teeth not line up with the flywheel teeth when engaged other than the starter being loose. Check your mounting hardware. If it’s tight you may have broken teeth, on either the flywheel or the starter. I do not have any videos on that subject at the moment.

    I believe most of these blowers have a tiny slim fuel filter in the fuel tank. If that is clogging it won't run correctly. Some suggest removing it and using an inline fuel filter instead.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před rokem

      Yes, most due have the filter in the fuel tank and they almost never get clogged. They are raised up in the tank and most debris sits on the bottom of the thank. Ass long as you have a good fuel flow the in the tank filter does not normally give you a issue. The newest engines on the market have a inline fuel filter that does restrict the flow. Check this video out on what i have found on the newest engine. czcams.com/video/6UEv4AM1SPk/video.html

    A lot of times, on Toro-type machines, a full rebuild/cleaning is not necessary. The culprit, in this case is probably the pilot jet being clogged. The carb will still have to be uncovered to access the pilot jet, but not removed. I just fixed my surging Toro by cleaning the pilot jet only.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 5 měsíci

      Good looking out but incorrect engine. Your “Toro” had a Tecumseh engine on it and you can do that easily on a Tecumseh engine. You Cannot easily remove the what you’re saying is the “pilot jet” on the China engines without disassembling shrouds. Most of the time on the China engines the center jet and emulsion tubes clog that is in the center of the carburetor.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před 2 lety +2

      I'm sure your weather is much colder then where I am so I do not have much experience with extreme cold and frozen cables but you could try Fluid Film. This may be a little tricky but "Fluid Film" will stick around a long time and I have used it for years. The problem is that fluid film is a thicker spray but if you can heat up your machine in a warm environment, you may be able to get the fluid film down inside where the cables are and once it is in there is does keep lubricating a very long time. Here is a link. Fluid Film. amzn.to/3Iecopy

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines
      @JohnsonsSmallEngines  Před rokem

      Hi Kevin, stop using pump gas and start using ASPEN fuel. It's a little pricy but you will not have to worry about the gas going bad. You must take all the regular gas out or run it dry before using the ASPEN to get the benefits. Read up on it. I am not sponsored by ASPEN at all. No ethanol and stays fresh for a very long time. Check into it. Here is a link. www.aspenfuels.us/products/all/. I have been using it for around three years and it is great fuel. My opinion, better than Tru-Fuel.

    Very helpful video - When I pressed the electric start, there is no sound at all. Could there be an electrical issue? or is the electric starter bad? I'll need to run the diagnostics again, but at this point I can not get it to start even a little.

    • @JohnsonsSmallEngines

      If you know you electric cord is good and the starter does not spin the engine over. Your starter is bad. The electric starter only spins the engine. It does not start the engine.
