- At the end of November 2022 I found myself in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Having not solo wild camped for quite some time, I decided to load my backpack with camera gear and camping supplies, and head off up a hill in search of a chilly overnight adventure...

Beau Miles is living proof that you don't need to venture far to find adventure. Loved the new style video.
He might say a "goodonya Ed" seeing this.
When Ed said he wanted to explore his own country I immediately thought of Beau and his "backyard adventurer" philosophy!
What a coincidence, just while watching this video the next browser tab waiting is Beau Miles' 4th day of Christmas Newness. And a very nice bothy Ed found there.
I wonder, when I see these comments, if it's all coincidence or if it's just a product of The Algorithm that folks tend to watch a lot of the same channels.
I've been subscribed to Beau Miles for 4 or more years now. I think it's amazing, but not surprising how his channel has "blown up". Both Beau and Ed have earnt and deserve their views.
When you said “I wish I could just go straight” I just thought of the straight line challenge and how fun it’d be too see you attempt one!
Ed pratt x Geowizard collab
@@spruceguse Yes. This is a Collab I really would love!
Yes, thought the same!
Same. I would love to see him give the straight line challenge a go.
Love to see the crossover between these two great channels!
That was nice Ed, a simple video by your usual standards but enjoyable all the same. I think the little adventures although small can be big fun : )
Sometimes the best stories come from the local stuf/semi-local short trips as you think you know what is needed for the weather in the area for that short time frame but turns out you come barely prepared for the trip.
Totally on board for stealth camping or regular camping videos. I think most will stick around for whatever you choose to do at this point, follow your creativity.
Hi Ed. Great video as usual. Come up to Scottish Highlands for a camp. Fly into Inverness and I will collect you and drop you somewhere stunning. 😃 We can have a ride on our 36" wheels when you have finished 😃😃😃
That was hilarious, I was already typing, asking you if you never got problems with clogged nozzles when priming the stove with pure gasoline, when it was already clocked up🤣
I found two ways to get around this issue:
1. Whenever I dont fly I have a small 30ml bottle of straight ethanol to prime, that lasts two weeks easily and burns much cleaner then gasoline, allowing me to only turn the gasline on when it is fully evaporated in the heater pipe.
2. Whenever I fly and cannot bring ethanol I have a small brass lid (mine is a 9mm case with a handle on it) that I put over the nozzle when priming. Squirt some gas, put the lid over the nozzle and light the gasoline around the nozzle. That was the flame does not reach the nozzle and the residue wont clock it up. When the stove is hot I remove the lid and turn on the gasoline.
Maybe that works for you as well ;)
Hey Ed it's good to see you again. Quick tip with that stove if I may, it's best to shut the valve near the gas bottle first. I like to shut it when my meal is almost ready, the flame will keep on burning for a moment and when it stops you know the line is completely empty of gas. That makes for a much cleaner stove with less gunk blocking the tiny hole. Cheers to all of your adventures !
I've got what I think is a newer model of white gas stove and it doesn't even have a valve where the fuel line goes to the stove. just the one on the bottle pump/regulator.
I used to mix a little redex in the Jerry can I kept full of petrol for my stove. Didn't get many clogging issues.
Great wee vid, cheers 🍻
Get the Pennine way walked. That would be a good series to watch 👍
You, the hut, the hill, and the Universe swirling by. Profound.
Ed, come to Snowdonia - you won't find anywhere as beautiful; you'll love it. Lunch on us in Harlech if you will.
Please try the Highlands & Islands next year! 💯💫
West Scrafting looks so unbelievably cozy.
Bite sized Ed, nice, and the overnight camera was perfect. More plz
It's a beautiful part of the world Yorkshire. I was in Swaledale, North Yorkshire a few weeks ago having a gravel ride adventure with the boys. Good luck with your new adventures !! 👍👍
That time-lapse was amazing
Great vid...love seeing anything from the old country, I'm from Canada, so more the merrier.
I'd like to see you find more primitive huts that are off the beaten path, perhaps meant to provide shelter to those who may be caught in a storm . This place looks like a gem and I hope you can film more like it.
"Its enough isn't it..." - Its more than enough Ed! Very lovely and enjoyable. I love your long adventures but these short trips are perfection!
Iv never commented on any video on CZcams before but just wanted to say thank you for providing stella content over the years. Had a big impact on my outlook on life and spurred me to just enjoy it. Big up sir
Nice format .. liked the night sky time lapse
Absolutely love this style of video Ed. My local area too, and an area I’ve never explored- despite having travelled to 100 or so countries! Glad you’re back, and thank you!
Nice to see you back. I like the idea of something different and quicker for you.
It is good to see you "out and about on the highways and byways." And it is hard to not think of "All Creatures Great and Small" when seeing the Yorkshire Dales. Good health and long life to you.
Great to see u back on CZcams mate can't wait for the next 1
Amazing production! Super pro. 👌 Even including time-lapse night and drone footage!
I love how you nonchalantly put out a really great video with drone and all night photography as if it ain't no big thing. Your filmography is superb. You inspired me (but I'm a POOR film maker... at the moment. I'm learning though thanks to you).
Brilliant adventure...thanks for taking us with you!
Dartmoor now allows wild camping again! 👍
Glad to see you doing well Ed. 🙂
Loved the lower key video. Something I'd really like to see you do is the coast to coast walk
Lovely video Ed and you are bang on the money that it’s not necessary to keep trying to up the game. You put a lot of effort into this one as usual even if it was on a much smaller scale. Certainly worth doing these smaller projects 👍
Brilliant idea, putting the camera for a time-lapse at night. Thanks for sharing!
Lovely camp in nature hill top
What a great episode Ed. Yes lots to explore in the uk. Be nice to see you visit Scotland at some point. 😊
Can't go straight? I would love to see you join up with GeoWizard for one of those straight-line challenges.
That was my thought as well seeing him walk through that field in the first scene :D
thanks ed good to see u again and the star shot was amazing thank u
Ed, I've been watching your channel since you crossed China - good stuff! Unrelated to the video, during my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail, I ran into a cyclist who was nearing completion of his journey from California to NYC. We talked for a while about our respective trips, and I asked him if he had seen any Ed Pratt videos. Turns out, one of the biggest influences in his coast-to-coast journey was your videos! So, good on you mate! Also, any plans to go on any big thru-hikes? There are probably too many videos on AT thru-hikes on CZcams, but perhaps you could give one of the other crazy-long trails a shot.
The star shots were fantastic to see. Great addition. That bothy needs wider benches but perhaps they don’t want people moving in?! Lovely location.
Happy to see you back, and in good spirits, even when the weather isn't.
I enjoyed that Ed, You were lucky with the weather for this time of the year. Thanks for making the video.
That was great! A bit of solo stealth camping and suffering is always a good watch 😊
Excellent video, thanks for taking us along. You have such good sprits, young man!
When Ed goes, "wooohoooo!!" after each challenge he's faced with, it brings me joy! Such feel good moments. Keep up the great work!
Interesting spot. I especially appreciate hearing what little you can learn about the history of this sort of area. It's hard to do any better than a good slip & fall ending too! Thanks Ed!
Great idea on the camping/hiking/trekking videos Ed. This one was great!
Great to see you back.. loved it. Definitely more of the short format uploads 👍🏼
Brilliant edd to see you out and about again
Absolutely loved your style. Really good takes and great narrative. Congratulations!! Please keep showing us your beatiful country. Greatings from Chile
Look forward to more adventures! That night time lapse was very cool.
This is great Ed, you have mini adventures and we get to see you more often, keep it going champ 👍🏻🌞🏴🎄
Watching you camp is so neat! I've never camped or hiked before, but I'm planning on doing it all the time once I'm on the West Coast!! Thanks for the awesome vids ❤❤
was really nice to see you having fun
Great video. Even though you have seen the Sun set all around the world, a Yorkshire scene still makes you smile. Nice spot for the night. 😀
THIS. Is my favorite style of video! Thank you.
Hi Ed! I'm really happy to see you getting on with things and also this new direction you're heading in with your videos. I'm Canadian but I love the UK and would love to explore there one day. It'll be great to live vicariously through your vids. Cheers!
I'm definitely here for more like this one Ed. It was very enjoyable just seeing you and the countryside. You're absolutely right, not everything has to be a big series. Looking forward to seeing more UK countryside.
Nothing wrong with a micro adventure Ed! I think you should make the videos you want, if you're enjoying it, that'll show through.
Loved the night time lapse - really stunning.
Yorkshire seems wonderful ed ! Very unique landscapes ! Thank you for this spontaneous video :D
Hi Ed, love this new take on video making. Loads to see and do in the UK and getting content out on a regular basis will keep your viewers more engaged. 🙌😎🇫🇮
Incredible views, especially the drone shots
Brilliant video Ed look forward to seeing more of these 👍
Very well made and presented Ed. I'll be keeping an eye out for more camping and hiking video's 👍
Fantastic Ed. I look forward to more from you.
It's like sleeping in a cloud! "That's miserable, that is."
Wonderful video, I live on the edge of the Yorkshire dales close to that area and you've captured it beautifuly, we really don't appreciate it enough as we live and work here,
It's only when you stop & look we realise how lucky we are to have all this beautiful scenery.
I love these videos. They inspire me to get out more myself. I love these short form adventures more than the longer trekking videos, mainly because it requires less investment by the viewer. It's a nice and compact viewing experience. Very well done
Amazing footage of my surrounding area Ben. Enjoyed seeing Great Roova Crag from a different view. The time you were here was spot on and being on the pitch black top when the sky comes alive, it does get better. As you probably know there're many other amazing places in our Dale to explore, all waiting. Dave, Blacksmiths Cottage
Love that time-lapse at the end
Really enjoyed this Ed, definitely up for more of this! And great to see you in Yorkshire!
Great video! You might like the Kielder reservoir area.
Good to have you back on CZcams 👍 Nice video Ed.
Sunset was great scene Ed .
Ed says "Shame i cant go straight" @geowizard says "hold my beer"
Loved the video Ed! Nice to see you exploring the UK, there's so much in our homecountry to see!
Short trips deco work too ed. Another great video and nice surprise.
Have you considered walking the southdowns way? Might make a cool video.
Loved this, very meditative, the night sky and sense of space and isolation , superb,.....could recommend Angletarn pikes, quick yomp over from the Dales, 😊happy travelling
My school took the class on a walk through the nearby Derbyshire Peak District. Although I was with a group of people I felt 'Alone', a feeling that has never left me, even when walking alone in a strange city (working away); I'm a people person I guess so big up to you Ed. Thanks for the Vids.
This is my new favourite channel! So wonderfully tranquil
Ahhh Ed, I found you a few years ago, when you had posted about half of your unicycle around the world and it was so great to see the world through your videos. I have to say though, i'm so excited you're wanting to do more shorter form content and explore the UK! Anything that you enjoy is what we're going to enjoy too :D So cool man! a fellow 26ish year old guy from england.
I really enjoyed this.
Some amazing drone shots in there.
I really love this format, Ed. Hopefully we'll see more camping videos from you :)
With most of my ancestors having come from England, Germany, and the South of Scotland, any videos you make from that area will be just fine with me!
Biking and hiking go hand in hand.
Lastly, never feel alone when out going solo; remember, we are all there right beside you in spirit.
Thanks for your work and I look forward to whatever you care to share with us.
Perhaps we will cross paths some day.
Allan R. Leach - Casey county, Kentucky; USA.
The sky and the stars at night were awesome, great video mate good drone footage and I look forward to seeing more of your videos mate john from Sheffield South Yorkshire England
Bloody hell! What a performance😀
Gotta love a bothy!
Have you ever considered using a Trangia or other alcohol stove, Ed? They're much slower than a gas stove or your petrol stove, but they're completely silent. The more gentle way of cooking coupled with the lack of noise is pretty zen - I think you'd dig it!
The classic Trangia really is the best in terms of function, but it's a bit bulky. There are a lot of third party windshields and such that are a bit more "ultralight."
Great microadventure, Ed. Looks like you had a really enjoyable overnighter!
Time lapse is just THE best invention ever!!!
edit; or a close second after the household plunger
Head to Scotland for a camping/Bothy expedition
Aye up, lovely video. The time lapse was fantastic.
Good video, the universe pictures were incredible, maybe you could try the moors of lancashire next time as we have some equally beautiful countryside.
Loving this format, that looks a superb place to stay
This is exactly what I subbed for! What a cool place, I never would have known about it until now
Love the new format - brilliant - well done :)
Nice very buitiful country thank you for the tour.
Nice to see that you're still rocking the 5-10's Ed!
What a beautiful video! It looks like James Herriot country 🥰
Beautiful place, thanks for sharing
Enjoyed this... I'm a wild camper myself and it's definitely rewarding. Do what you feel is right for you Ed 👌
Great video and its not all about the technical aspects of the editing etc, its more about the experience which you have captured fantastically as I have just found your channel and after watching this have subscribed and look forward to your future videos
Good to see a new variation on your adventures. Have a great Xmas and a fulfilling 2023.
Glad you want to do things inthe UK. There is so much to see here
