  • The Electric Bike Technologies Electric Fat Tire Trike is a fat-tire front hub-motor powered electric trike that is purpose built for backwoods adventures or anything else you can come up with thanks to its powerful motor and large cargo rack in the rear. Comfortable as well as capable with the ergonomic grips, Velo comfort saddle, approachable step-through frame, suspension seat post, and front suspension fork. Powerful Bafang 750-1000 watt front hub motor, Shimano 7 speed mechanical system, high capacity battery, and mechanical disc brakes with motor inhibitors. Weight is higher up than recumbent, makes you want to go a little slower, could be hard to maneuver in a crowded garage, grips are non-locking which you may want to upgrade to locking for intense rides, and no integrated lights.

I am a relatively active 70 year old living in a green city, consequently, I am contemplating giving up my car. Ran a marathon at 55, continued running until a knee injury at 62, and walk almost daily from 1 - 5 miles. In moving quickly, instinctively, I have excellent balance. But when moving slowly I find I am hesitant, somewhat fearful of falling, and recently had a fall when not paying attention and placing my foot into a deep hole in the pavement. Sorry, for the lengthy post. I am looking at trikes because I think a bicycle might be too challenging balance wise. I would use the trike on city roads but most of your videos don't show road use. Have read laws about use on roads, but would appreciate guidance on whether it is practical to anticipate using a trike around the city where bike lanes are intermittent.

great review.....a few questions.....what is the weight of the entire bike and how is it transported as it looks too tall to insert in the back of any SUV? Also...most folks looking for an e assist trike will be better served on a recumbent. I cant imagine sitting on a seat like that for 30-40 miles.

    • @another3997
      @another3997 Před 3 lety

As a rider of both recumbent trike and bike, I'd say they have advantages and disadvantages. I've owned and ridden a traditional upright trike, and it is fun once you become accustomed to it. They have certain advantages over a recumbent. I also enjoy riding my 'normal' bikes too. As for saddles, they're like shoes... everybody is different, so finding the right fit is often difficult. The wrong ones are painful, but the right ones are comfortable all day long.

I'm fairly certain he's aware of that. It's very common to use a generic term for the gearing system. A bicyle wheel has a rim, spokes, a hub, bearings and other components... but you just point at it and call it a wheel.

Nothing wrong with precision in speech. It’s not a personal attack, no disrespect is intended, and the man requires no defense. A lack of respect for simple correction, or more accurately the mischaracterization of correction as “mean-spirited” or “splitting hairs” is responsible for much of the decay in society at large. You and I are capable of making the mental adjustment and move on. Others with less experience will hear the errant phrasing and adopt it, not knowing any better. But again, my correction is not intended as a petty attack, and the presenter is not a child, so i’m certain his feelings aren’t hurt, so no defense is needed.

@@LedplimmyXD i owned a vintage Desoto trike but sold it in 2015 to move out of the USA for awhile. use to ride motorcycles until 2006 when my back could no longer stand it, even with an 06 harley ultra classic.
living in south dakota i see so many folks trailering a 10 year old bike with less than 7,000 miles on it, on their way to Sturgis.
im an old Man in my 60's who got my motorcycle license at 14 years old. was hit head on on my chopper (a Honda)at 55 miles an hour in 1978, car ran over my back. switched to touring style bikes in 1985 . many years i only had a bike for transportation.
so i really laugh my ass off at the old guys that get tattoos and grow beards and PLAY BIKER especially the ones who buy a TRIKE!! its like the old guy that decides he needs a dodge charger or ss camero but never drove a fast car before or ever tried hot roding. untill they retire. i was poor so i bought basket cases and built my own cars, trucks and motorcycles. in 76 i built a 68 chevelle ss396 with square port heads, etc... 375 HP with 4 speed and 4.10: 1 posi. in 78 i built a 68 roadrunner with 383 78 cc heads , 747 torqueflight etc....
spent 10 calendars in PRISON watching guys with harley tattoos hide under their beds as i and my brothers fought race wars being outnumbered 10 to 1.
so i have zero respect for wannabes
and im going to buy a fat tire 3 wheel bicycle and electrify it myself, as i have a 4 years old son to keep up with now days!

We purchased this Vivi 27.5” electric bike and a Tentaquil 26” electric bike for our 13 and 14 year olds. czcams.com/users/postUgkxUiL0GnyDjP32RJdd660sP8mZk4CRLTCJ The Vivi was much easier to put together. With the Vivi, there was a video link to assist with assembly which made the process easier to follow (we did put the handlebars on upside down, but it was a quick and easy fix). With the Tentaquil, the assembly was not as simple to follow, but after we messaged the company for an assembly video, it was easier and they did respond quickly. The other major differences were that the Vivi has a grip throttle on the right handle (like a motorcycle) and the Tentaquil has a push throttle that you use your thumb to activate. The monitors were also different, so if you’re looking for something specific in terms of changing the bikes functions, pay attention to what the monitor offers. We were really impressed with the overall quality and functionality of both bikes, but if you’re looking for more power and an easier assembly, definitely go with the Vivi!

10:05 Just a tip, we don't want or need to see you as you talk about the bike. We want to see the bike in action. It's kinda frustrating when you focus on your face.

The tires cost more. and the spokes need to be thicker.

You dont know what you are talking about.
12 ga in the front is fine.
The wide tires and have 50% more area over which to disperse shock and mass, combined with the shorter spokes means that each spoke is under significantly less stress than a two wheeled 26in bike with similar tires.
      These spokes are just fine.

Good point about the smaller wheel size in relation to the spoke strength, metamorphicorder. I've seen some ebike companies go extreme with 12 gauge spokes all around, but then you lose comfort and they can still get loose because of vibration. I can't speak for this ebike specifically, but there's more to durability than just spoke thickness, and wheel size definitely plays a part :)

@@metamorphicorder look at worksman bikes. I am very hard on bikes and in time i would have to replace that wheel and I would replace it with one of Worksman's.

@@sherrysmith337 sherry im 300 lbs plus and im HARD on bikes. Im telling you that unless you are riding up and down stairs on underinflated tubes, these wheels are gonna be just fine.
Look, like i was saying these are gonna have 50% more area over which to disperse load and impact than a similarly equipped 2 wheel bike, which already has about 200 to 400% more area over which do so. This doesnt even factor in the larger cushion of air volume. Wider rims also disperse the shock before it gets to ths spokes.
Weight is balanced between two wheels rather than over one? More reduction.
24 rather than 26 in spokes?
Nearly and 8% reduction in spoke length. Further reduction in the torque applied to the spokes during accell and braking.
Having the motor in front in a trike with most of the weight centered between the two rear wheels? Less stress on the front spokes. The front spokes are even shorter because of the motor too so theres even more reduction.
If this was a normal width 26 in rim bike or trike even, i would agree that the 13 ga spokes were a compromise, but here on an already heavy bike of a design thats not particularly prone to spoke breakage, i have to say that 13 is really the right choice.
I woild rather see an extrarear brake included , or increase the rotor size before specing more into spokes.
All in all this is a good deal if you need a trike.
Howeverif you are doing commercial activities on a bicycle platform, i get why 13ga might seem small. This really isnt for that.
Im not sure what you meant by the tires costing too much. Fat tires cost more than narrow ones. Thats how it works. More rubber costs more than less rubber.

Have one and it's gamey to ride. Too narrow and too short of wheel base. Tips with a puff of wind. Even riding on streets is horrible. Also have tried to obtain the settings instructions for the controller display , many email requests hours searching. Not one bit of useful information--10 months later. The front wheel drive is so close to useless it hurts. Breaks traction constantly. Off road is a horror ,tipping over at the least off camber situation.

You couldn't build it and sell it profitably for that price.
You probably couldnt build this if you had to buy absolutely everything yourself for the price you quoted.
I dont think you understand what involved here. The batteries for these cost at least half your quoted cost.
So now you have half that cost to get a trike and a motor and a controller and all that. Good luck. You cant do it. Please post an itemized build parts list with cost for each item.
You cant start with anything you already own. You have to buy everything.
A and you cant cheat by doing the labor for free. You have to pay yourself.
So please show us all how to build one of these for the cost you quoted. Please. Im waiting.
