I just got a new Model Y. When the 19s wear out, I'm planning on swapping to custom 18s. It's a cheaper tire with much more benefits. They'll also have a better look, a more comfortable ride, and a thicker sidewall to protect from curb rash.
That is my plan for my M3, but I can't seem to find EV tires for my M3 that are 235/50 R18. I think they will fit, and I can find standard tires that size, but not EV specific tires.
TTG,
I am religious about tire rotation, every 5k just like my other vehicles with oil & tire rotations.
Today I have 50,187. I'm at 3/32 measured by Tesla at my rotation this week. I'll pick a new tire brand and buy soon.
2021 Model Y LR 40,000 miles still have original tires. Only rotated once at 15,000 miles. I do not use chill mode and I do enjoy using the quick acceleration at times.
an outlier
The OEM Michelins on Toyota ICE cars didn't even go above 30k miles.
That’s not even remotely true about Toyotas.
@@w-w1781replaced my Toyota Camry tires totally bald and rotated properly at 40k
Two years and 50,000 miles on my model 3 Just replace my first set of tires. Chicago area so all four seasons and drive what I consider fairly responsible only racing from stoplights less than 5% of the time. For what it’s worth.
MY 2022 LR I got 32,000 out of the continentals. Chill mode 95% of the time and ALWAYS rotate! Ended up replacing all cause I blew one up. Still had about 6 month more.
43K on a Tesla Long Range. Metal showing on the rear passenger side. Both rears are basically treadless. Both fronts are below the wear bars. I never rotated the tires.
Battery being low to the ground doesn’t increase the weight on the tires, they will bear the downwards force from the cars weight if it’s low or high up. During track use you could see different wear due to how the weight loads up in a corner.
Replacement Michelin OEM at Costco (in Canada) cost $1,700 for a set. I went with Michelin PS4 (Costco version) at $1,250 for a set. They’re much more comfortable than the OEM, no change in efficiency and they appear to be wearing less rapidly. There is a trade off in steering feel. When pushed hard they let go earlier than OEM. Non noise differences.
great video, Thanks
I'm at 16K, Model 3 RWD Michelin primacy mxm4 as the stock tire and have rotated twice- Currently at 4/32. Looking at tires now, not sure if I'll replace all 4 at once or 2 and 2.
What brand, etc is the sun shade in the video, and does it fit well, etc. Just got my new Y in Columbia SC and no garage to protect from the sun
My GF just bought a model 3. I mentioned to her tires can wear out a little quicker especially if drive as as if you are racing. We will see.
Good information that is not provided elsewhere. Seems to be credible, but clearly one persons view/ experience.
My 2013 Cadillac ATS went through tires every 20.000 miles. The same tires on my wife's 2022 Tesla model 3 have already lasted 24,000 miles and are still good. My old Toyota RAV 4 had built in negative camber and would wear away the inside edge of the tire at about 15,000 so the tire was ruined even when the rest of the tread was good. Toyota didn't even leave enough adjustment so you could fix it and there were no aftermarket parts to allow for zero camber. Can't complain about my Tesla, I just got a 2023 Model Y with a different brand tire, I'll keep an eye on them.
I have nearly 19K miles on mine, have rotated them thrice, and have plenty of tread remaining. Like stated in the video, there are more and more big name tire makers that have tires specifically for BEVs out there.
On senior Chill mode for me. Can't rotate them in MYP
Honestly considering adding the acceleration boost to my LR3 so that I'll have the more even distribution of power! I am swapping between chill and normal modes with the steering wheel button now, after I had to replace the two rear tyres after getting a too close to the sidewall to patch puncture on the rear left - had used about 40% of the tire then, which was my wake up call. 😂 Decided to swap the pair and keep the rear right tyre as a spare.
I completely agree with your every point regarding EV tires. I laughed at others who tell me differently =P. I would acquire a Tesla but... the climate I live at, from below -40C, the hail (that can destroy that lovely sunroof), the grains of sand and rocks put on the road during snowy winter months will simply make me spend more money on :( I'm sure someone will say that is (should be) covered by insurance, not where I live. Thank you for the truthful shared opinion.
Got 19,500 miles out of my Tesla model 3 performance tires 🤦🏻♂️
15000 out of michelins😔
2021 M3 LR DM. Just clocked 40,000 kms after 2 years on original Michelin PS4 tyres and probably have another couple of thousand left. Thankfully it's summer and water displacement due to lower tread depth is less of an issue than it would be during wetter seasons
Ew, kms
My Michelin MXM4 tires that my car came with new (2023 M3SR) started at 8/32” tread, which is a lot less than the tires I’ve had before (11/32”). Don’t know why. Anyways, I have about 15-16000 miles and am probably halfway through my tread, so will prob get about 30K miles. Conservative driver, tho I find it hard to resist going around corners fast (the car corners like a scared cat)…
Are you talking about the staggered performance or long range?
I have sized up 10mm, makes a big difference on curb rash reduction and tire life
my wife has had her M3 for 10 months and 3 of the wheels have curb rash. some people on the Tesla forum claims the tires aren't stretched. maybe on paper they aren't, since the treads (235mm/9 inch) are similar width as the wheel (8.5 inch). but irl looking at the tire and wheel the side walls aren't straight up and down, they don't bulge out, they angle towards the treads making the wheel/rim stick out.
@Skavatar789 that's why I run 245mm, the tires last longer too, have 70k miles on Bridgstine quiettrack.
Absolutely true on the "how you drive" and the miles you'll get from your tires.
I'm an ultra-conservative driver and let FSD do 90%+ of the driving and I easily got 50k miles using the stock Continental ProContact RX Tires 255/45R19 104W XL.
Exactly. Dive conservatively. Don't jackrabbit from light to light. Don't corner aggressively. Don't buy performance tires that have a softer tread compound and wear out quickly. Do all that and your tires will last as they should. Don't and expect to blow a lot of extra bucks on tires.
2021 Tesla Y (LR)- Had 36,000 miles on the factory tires when better half scrub a curb and cut a tire. I replaced all four and best guess using a depth gauge I had 5 to 10 thousand left on tires. Replaced with Michelin Pilot at a cost of $1300.00.
Just last week we did the exact same thing. We only got 33k and one tire went completely flat with a huge gash so we went ahead with it now.
I love it and that’s one of the things I bought it for,….covers it up with a sunshade.
my tesla tires are at 50 percent . and have 30 k on them. i rotate them every 7 k. but now im gonna wait until 10 k only because i dont like traveling to the tire place.
Me too. Set the car to chill mode.
I'm getting 6k on my plaid with the 21 inch wheels. Tesla has no fix for this..
Yes, it's true what he said. I own a Tesla Model 3 Long Range AWD and I need new tires at 16,000 miles. I will stop being fast off the line in the future and drive like the gasoline powered cars (sort of 😉). Didn't know about the issues with the foam lined tires, thanks! I will avoid them. I wish I got the 18" rims, instead of the 19". Everyone says the ride is more comfortable. Though I personally have no complaints about comfort.
I have a MYP and got 34,000 on rear and 43000 on front
Got 35,000 out of my Y Perfotmance and I drive aggressively..
I’m at 34,800 and just ordered new rears. Mine wore on the inner.
2018 m3 LR
57000 KM, ABOUT 4/32
My Tesla only gets 5000 miles on rear tires with no rotating and driving fast. Front tires last 40k miles
Something is wrong with your rear suspension
I get the same on my plaid S. Tesla has no fix for this
Time to use mm!
Mine didn't last a few days. Hopefully they've improved, but a total piece of garbage from day 1. i should've refused delivery or lemon law'd it. instead i sold it and made $5k in a few months.
Most ev drivers love the acceleration...drive in chill mode and relax
i had a glass roof in my skoda .. fun til it broke... so not the place to be in an accident either
How heavy is a F150?...listen tire wear is and always be dependant on the driver....a 65 year old driver in a tesla will go through less tires than an 18 year old in a Nissan micra
Even worse case with Model X. Different sized tires (front/rear) with negative camber and cannot be rotated 😂
Very true!
4 legged son, that was very sweet =)
Any high performance car will eat tires. My supercharged Nsx goes through rear tires every 12k miles. Can’t rotate them. My Model Y is faster and the tire will last longer
I realize this is a video about the tires, but since range was brought up, my MYLR gets a tad over 300 miles of range highway, and about 275 in the city (chill mode driver here). Although I think this is pretty good, I'm open to suggestions on how to increase my range closer to the 330 miles advertised.
I haven't been able to get to the advertised range in mine, though it doesn't take away from the experience or enjoyment of the vehicle, I was only able to get slightly over 300
Drive in 60s
@@TallTeslaGuy my fav thing about my tesla is when i trade it in for something that holds its value like a rav4 or crv hybrid
No EV's reach advertised range, it is a misleading number based on unrealistic driving conditions.
Wait im confused to all the people in the Tesla community! I say because wasn’t there a 120,000 mile warranty for the long range Model Y?? Anybody who knows more can educate me & give me better insight. Thanks in advance!
Don't drive over 70mph and you'll see the difference I've got my tires at 60k and can do 10k more! 5/32". You accelerate fast, take curves fast and drive over 80mph.
that roof should open, then that would be cool
I get about 45k miles per set on my model y
That is insane! How do you do it?
what kind of tires are on your model y which gave you 45k miles?
Those wheels can not drive in 3 inches of snow
i just got 4 tires for 360$ on my civic
20k-25k miles
Take the foam out
my last set of tires on my Durango got over 100,000 miles and it still had tread.
What brand and model were the tires 😮
@@ChesterPaulCP2 Michelin
@@ChesterPaulCP2 Michelin. Don't know the model number. It's the same model that came with the car new.
If electric costs more than ICE , What's the point ?
For me, the tech (watch my streaming service in car while waiting), mobile service at my house, low maintenance (never taken car to dealer in 4 years), insane acceleration, and software updates that add more features. The latter is my fave.
I would miss all these things if I got another car.
The point is different people value different things and I totally get why people are against EV cars because they are different but some people enjoy them for their own reasons.
Whenever EV owners say "You're not paying for gas", I just chuckle...
I don’t like Tesla 😞
The roof is the best thing? I never realize I have a glass roof unless I look up!
The cope is hilarious.
I’ve never seen a group of people try so hard to sell a product in my life.
If the product is good and sustainable, it sells itself.
If you have to fudge numbers, use your imagination and outright lie about a product… It’s not going to sell.
What’s the resale value for a Tesla after 5 years and a useless battery?
How much to replace your battery?
Why are you comfortable with child labour working in a strip mine to deliver your “clean energy lithium”?
Why do you think coal-powered cars are clean energy?
Since the current power grid can barely handle the small amount of EVs, why do you people think they’ll work when everyone is forced to drive one?
Given the pathetic range of a few hundred KM (at BEST), why do you think these cars are viable for anyone outside of a city?
… just a handful of questions never answered, without a whole lot of bullshit.
Enjoy your virtue signalling!
Tesla is currently the most sold manufacturer in Norway, and the only one without any promo. so it sells based on quality of cars.
Resale value is usually higher than most after 5 years, and the battery and drive units have 8 year warranty.
The battery price question is invalid. Do you swap out your engine if the thermostat breaks? No, you swap out that part and go on with your day. Same with a module in a battery pack.
Are you comfortable with child labour getting that precious cobalt that is used in refinement of crude oil to make gasoline and diesel?
Coal power is bad. Vote for someone that will go with renewablw energy instead, and do like other smart countries.
The power grid will always be upgraded according to demand. Always has, always will. Just having people swap out halogen liggt bulbs with led bulbs will resuce the USA power expenditure by 20% alone.
At best is vurrently 600km+. Which is a full day drive in most countries. I don't know about you, but I usually need to pee long before I have ever driven that far. Combine a toilet break with a supercharger and you get 2-300km more range in that timeframe. It's ridiculously practical and easy. Tesla are ahead of the game and are aiming for a supercharging station within 50km of anywhere. Range is not a problem at all. Unless you really like kidney stones.
Meanwhile, the Tesla model Y is the number one selling car in the world.
Everybody is kidding themselves about EV’s
Can’t rotate the Performance models!
Not heavier. Weighs exactly the same audi entry level car & bmw 4500 lbs
Nowhere near the same mate which model are you referring to? Audi a7 is under 4200lb big difference
This guy wasted 6mins of bullshit... Get to the point of your video
