Honestly, I love it. I was afraid they would make her a cringe witch that speaks in riddles and stuff. But she was the right amount of sage-like knowledge, the right amount of "I'm the most powerful in the room, you don't scare me".

They explain this in the behind the scenes video, and I love it: they wanted to AVOID having Alys be a stereotypical "alluring witch, with a hint of both seduction and creepy" - that's sort of how that leaked audition tape played it from an actress who didn't get the part some months ago. Instead, Gayle Rankin does make Alys Rivers "unsettling"...by delivering her lines totally deadpan - not so much "serious" as "genuine"...to the point you can't tell if she's lying and can't get a read on her.
Some people were pretty hard on her appearance but I think she's striking a harsh type of attractive and the accent just enhances the character's aesthetic

Interested to see more of her and how her relationship with Aemond unfolds...I can see her playing both Daemon and Aemond but one thing that caught my eye was that Daemon was said to be immune to her magic and seems he isnt here. 🤔
Daemon being said to be immune in Fire & Blood would probably be the same kind of in-universe propaganda that Shakespeare indulged in by making King James's ancestor Duncan look good in Macbeth.

Harrenhal's storyline was legitimately one of the only highlights from episode 3, which is weirdly enough one of the weakest episodes in the entire HOT D. Alys was sooo cool. I want more scenes of her and Daemon, having magical shenanigans.
