Ouija: Origin of Evil is a great Prequel.
That's the one I was thinking of! Thank you!
Much like Annabelle: Creation, it's a film where the only real downside is that you kind of have to be familiar with the original, inferior film in order for the ending to make any sense.
I enjoy that movie too lol and I prefer that one than The Omen too lol 😂 but that’s just me though bro 😎
Mike Flanagan is a horror God
The First Omen is a real return to classic, slow burn, visceral horror. There’s a few scenes of pure nightmare fuel.
Couldn't have said it better!
Final Destination 5 was a great prequel!
Thanks for the review, I'll definitely be going to see this one.
Yes it was!
They are making a new final destination movie as well
As prequels go, "TCM the Beginning" is a pretty darn good prequel for the 2003 remake!
Yes!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews The only negative..I'm torn between Jordana or Jessica.
"We'll choose both!"
Just watched Late Night with the Devil, and now I'm pumped to see this. Getting some nice horror this year.
Yeah man some great stuff!
First Omen Shits all over Late Night with the Devil.
Much more mature and visceral.
I had no expectations for First Omen and thought Late Night With The Devil was going to be amazing.
It was completely opposite.
@@PoopilussMcDoopiluss can't wait!
@@PoopilussMcDoopilussLate night with the devil is great
Finally watched this the other day, it's SO much better than most horror movies! The creepy imagery throughout was awesome. I got chills when Damien was born and that classic Omen theme came on
You got me buzzed to see this Lee, i remember watching The Omen movies as a kid when they were shown on UK TV in the 80's & loved being scared by them.
This one is a guarantee TL!
The Omen(1976) is a classic
So this was what Exorcist Believer (a movie I avoided) should have been.
Exactly Cameron.
Exactly what I thought
I actually enjoy The Exorcist Believer and I say it’s way better than the Omen since I don’t care for that particular character franchise at all lol 😂 but that’s just me though lol 😆 bro 😎
Lmaooooo 😅😂
@DevilFan669 Exorcist Believer was fairly entertaining, but I think people expected it to be wayyy scarier.
WOW! You've convinced me. I might check this out this weekend.
Definitely do!
Wow really sounds like 2024 is THE year for horror ❤😃 excited to check this one out!
Right Erica!? And we're barely in April.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews oh yeah!
I just came out seeing this and HOLY CRAP!!!!!!
In one particular scene I almost fainted. (You know which one.) I cant believe they went that far.
This was the kind of horror movie I love seeing, one that leaves a lasting impression.
I know the scene and I agree. I almost walked out of the theater. Which I have never done
… literally have not been in a theater since before the plague, but The Omen is my all-time favorite franchise so this *might* be the one that will get me back …
Go now!
Father Brennan looks like he walked off a 1970 horror movie and onto this one literally. Like no changing, showering nothing. The acting all around I'm so happy with. Some people being upset after watching is good, they should be if the actors did it right
Completely agree!
The review I was looking and hoping for!! 👏 I’m trying not to build the film up too much in my head though. Hahaha expectations are everything.
And I agree. I’m really enjoying the warm trends in color grading and the move away from the cooler ones.
For this particular movie, even though the trailer was amazing, my expectations were still pretty low due to it being a prequel to a troubled franchise. I'm so glad I went in that way, because I was googoo eyed throughout the whole thing. There were even "are they really going there?!" scenes. Can't wait for your opinion on this one Crystal!
Going to see it tomorrow, I'm craving for horror flick with classic vibes and I like the first Omen a lot.
You’ll like it then
The first Omen is rad. Love the Final Destination style kills.
I want to give it another watch after seeing this.
Me too. The Final Destination franchise has always reminded me of The Omen.
I’m excited for this even though I haven’t seen The Omen since I saw it on TV when I was in high school lol.
I’d say Pearl is a really good prequel. Also Oppenheimer is a really good Godzilla prequel (lol)
Yeah I barely remember the first since it's been so long.
Thanks for your input! Going to see it tomorrow 😊
Welcome!
One of best things about this movie for me is how they don't flat out reveal who Damien's mother actually is throughout the film and keep you guessing between Margaret, Carlita, or one of the other nuns until around the third act. Despite a few minor retcons, I think this is one of the better prequels.
Awesome review, great job avoiding spoilers. I was anticipating this but after hearing your review, I am beyond excited! I enjoyed the trilogy quite a bit so this is a must see for me. Anything that gets your “Trapped on a Island” has me rushing to see it.
You're going to love it David!
I'm really excited for this one and it's also receiving a lot of positive buzz, can't wait to check it out 👍👍
Enjoy!
Can’t thank you enough for this video on this omen prequel
Welcome brother!
Always respect your opinion brother on movies had to visit after seeing this movie to get your thoughts.
Can't wait to see it! My parents introduced me to horror movies since the early 70s so I'm glad you liked this as a good prequel story!
It's so good!
Great to hear this anticipated movie doesn’t land in the frustrating predictable jump scares Lee, also it has the needed solid foundation for a well made movie since it has a good story.
Yeah man I hate CGI fest jump scares.
Damien Omen 2 is a really good sequel.
I need to give it another chance.
It's one that I watched a lot as a kid in the eighties. The ice hockey scene has NEVER left my mind!
Damien Omen II Is my favorite of all the movies
@caroledickerson7578 unfortunately I did. 4 was terrible.
I really enjoyed Immaculate; now I’m looking forward to The First Omen, thanks to your review!!
Buddy, this is what immaculate wanted to be 😂 this film was insane.
Preach brother.
Gonna have to see this, can't believe the great reviews it's been getting.
Bro.....it's amazing.
Wow! Cool! Now I need to check it out. Wasnt looking forward to any new horror films except Handling the undead and Terrifier 3 but this seems to be in my taste. Great review!
Awesome. Loved it
Oh shit. Gotta check it out
Thanks for the review
Welcome!
This movie to me is like the Rouge One of the Omen franchise. It was great.
Completely agree.
I'm excited!!
You're going to love it Steph!
Great review of a great movie...subscribed 😊
Thank you....and welcome to the madness!
Saw this today and was locked in from start to finish. Love the way it was shot and directed. Love the old school horror we got!
So, Pearl,Final Destination 5,Annabell :Creation and The First omen - my personal top-4 best horror prequels. Thats how you DO prequel to horror movie. In my point of view i wanna see prequel original Jaws about Indianapolis, which was planned , but i think its kinda impossible now
Great examples!
Yes, glad someone mentioned Annabelle: Creation (my favorite movie in The Conjuring franchise)!
Amityville 2 is an awesome prequel
Finally a good horror movie that came out with decent reception. Where have you been. I might watch this in theaters soon
Yeah it's amazing!
I think we need a review of the original 1976 classic, The Omen. I think it would be really cool to learn your thoughts on it. Whether good or bad.
i'm glad to hear you enjoyed this one too, i thought it was an exceptional prequel - one of the very few..
i loved the style and look of the film too, it felt very old school.
Hell yeah brother. Loved it.
Watched this with my daughter.
And yes, now she wants to see the original.
Just watched the original Omen movie last week, hyped to go see this friday!
Nice!
Just saw it in Thursday... Solid movie, I'd give it a Purchase Worthy!
I couldn't help but notice a technical error: The movie takes place in 1971, but when they go to the club one of the songs playing is "I've Got To Use My Imagination" by Gladys Knight and the Pips, which didn't come out until October 1973 (I have a personal connection to the album). Turns out there were A LOT of technical errors with that club scene regarding certain fashion that wasn't out yet and other songs played that didn't come out until years later😱...
But like I mentioned, I really enjoyed the movie. I would've preferred them not ending it like they're trying to squeeze out a new franchise though. That very last part dropped it down a bit for me.
Can’t wait to see this one ☝️
My Favorite Horror Prequels:
1. Annabelle Creation
2. Saw X
3. The First Omen
4. Pearl
5. Prey
6. Orphan: First Kill
7. Ouija: Origin Of Evil
8. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
9. Hannibal Rising
10. Prometheus
11. Final Destination 5
12. Paranormal Activity 3
13. Insidious Chapter 3
For every matrix, there’s an equilibrium 🎉
I rewatched The omen not long ago and was surprised how good it was. Looking forward to this one especially since it’s stylized in 70s fashion.
Yeah I'm itching to watch the og now Patricia!
There are 2 styles of jump scares:
#1 "...OH SHIT!!!"
#2 "...ohshitohshitohshitohshit"
If someone was inclined to do an "Immaculate/First Omen/Late Night with the Devil" triple-feature, what watch order makes the most sense for that DIY evil-verse?
I'd watch late night last... The first omen, then immaculate then late night is how I would view that trifecta
Great question. I'd say Immaculate, Omen, then Late Night to end it a bit lighter.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I like the videos you've done about this, double features that are similar but different franchise
@@tyleigh4309Thanks Ty!
You said it so well man my jaw was on the floor. And I loved they saved the theme until the most pivotal scene. Also Texas chainsaw massacre the beginning and Annabelle creation are the most recent good prequels I can think of
The Thing 2011 is an underrated prequel imo
I agree with you. This is the best prequel I’ve ever seen. Moving forward, I will watch this before watching the first Omen. This is the story of Damien’s mother.
Yep. I think it's essential viewing before the first.
Of all the April horror movies, this was the one I had the least faith in, after hearing good reviews I can safely say I was wrong
Yeah it's the best horror of the year so far
Orphan first kill was a GREAT prequel, as for this i cant wait to see it, big Omen fan here (first 2 movies anyway)
Yes! I really enjoyed Orphan First Kill. Not as much as the first, but still good.
Prequels are hard to make work because everyone already knows where it's going to end up. Still, we've seen a few good prequels. (Earlier comments list some examples.) I'm delighted to hear this is one of them. As 1981 was the year of the werewolf (The Howling, Wolfen, An American Werewolf in London), could this be the year of the nun with this and Immaculate?
This one is great because of the surprises of the journey. And it's quite f'd up!
I am so glad this film holds up nicely, and doesn't feel cynical, even if a couple of the deaths were clear fan service. A prequel it may be, I found the mystery decent, loving the religious critique and eerie atmosphere. Not to mention gleefully sick imagery; I'm surprised it didn't get a stronger rating. Definitely some Suspiria vibes in there too. 8/10, and I'd love to watch this with Immaculate. They certainly are twin flicks.
I was never a fan of the original omen but i never saw any of the sequels either. The First Omen blew me away though! Fantastic prequel!
Little late with a reply, but I highly recommend Damien: Omen 2. It was a great follow up. Now The Final Conflict (Omen 3) wasn't so great. Glad to hear The First Omen was good & getting great reviews from others. 2👍
Your the best reviewer!
Thank you so much Tobey!
I finally got around to watching this
When Hulu started airing it
I will admit I formed a opinion based off what I knew about this movie
I think it's a lot better than I expected and I can accept the changes they made
I wouldn't say it's a great movie
But it is very good
Yes, watch the Omen Trilogy. Wonderful and scary. Love them.
Didn’t want to see it but it sounds very good. Is it better than Amityville 2 The Possession (prequel)?
So close. Both are amazing.
Lee, big horror fan like you. Ready to watch this. Question though, after a movie like this do you start to think of the scary scenes when you’re home alone? Haha
It definitely stays with you. Some scenes are hard to remove from your skull.
The First Omen, my rating is a 9/10 because of how Demonically Scary this film is and doesn't hold up and definitely a better prequel before 1976's The Omen this has Early 70s atmosphere and this is compared to IMMACULATE because for one IMMACULATE doesnt have the three 6's and two IMMACULATE has a different story than The First Omen. The similar is the ending between the two, In IMMACULATE child dies at the end and Sweeney's character lives, In the ending of The First Omen, The newborn child name is Daimen because he lives and Margaret barely survives from a stab womb and took the female child instead.
I watched it last night and I have not stopped thinking about it. One of the best horror movies I’ve seen recently. Really craving a rewatch
I think this is miles better than Immaculate
Agreed. It's still in my head.
Saw this last night, what a damn good movie! Always been a big Omen fan, this held its own very well but was an epic prequel to the classic original!🙂👍
Hell yeah!
Definitely agree with you. Best prequel in this genre. You can definitely tell it was a David Goyer produced film with an Arkasha stamp that limits cheap jump scares with a more artistic approach where the tension was felt throughout… even after the movie. I’d see this again! ❤
And yes it did give me some Immaculate vibes but I feel like that movie was forced to scare me where The First Omen just kept building and building to the point where you don’t know if you can take it anymore but decide to stay in your seat to see where the story takes you and enjoy the ride to Father Brennan’s and Damien’s next act
You're dead on with that second paragraph. The First Omen is definitely the better movie, and I loved Immaculate.
Yepp...Omen 1-2-3...very good !!
Nice Review
Mr. Lee
I Tend To Be A Stickler For Details & I Don't Like That They Change Damien's Mother To Human
But I'm Willing To Give It A Try
As For The Other Omen Movies
I'm A Fan Of The First 2 Movies
3 Is Okay Just Feels Kind Of Lackluster In My Opinion & Definitely Stay Away From Part 4
FYI For Anyone Interested Hulu
Has All 4 Omen Movies Currently Streaming
Give it a shot Polly. It's solid.
This movie was bonkers. I really appreciated the practical effects. Reminded me a little bit of Rob Zombie’s Lords of Salem towards the end. Love the cinematography, love the imagery, great acting.
Yeah this is what Lords of Salem could have been.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews and I really feel like this borrows a lot of concepts from Halloween six…. Creating the evil, cult stuff, incest. It’s interesting that the things Halloween six was criticized for, modern horror, seems to be leaning into
Did they really re-do the "It's all for you" hanging scene from the original?
Oh yes. And it was magnificent.
I knew this would be worth the wait, cant wait to watch this and follow it with STING!
Also love your inclusion of other screeners not being into it!
Yeah I get just as much enjoyment out of their reactions when it's the heavy horror stuff.
I loved this movie. A really lavish production. It keeps you on your toes for most of its runtime. The twist ending is very intriguing and makes you reconsider the supernatural element. I would just say that Demian's supernatural.nature is left hanging by a thread.
🖤🖤🖤
Thank you Nikki!
I am a bit late but I just saw this. There are 3 scenes where I couldnt even look at the screen. In terms of horror this is 10/10. I love that this is a Dario Argento movie without being an Argento movie. The acting, cinematography, soundtrack is top notch.
Will I watch it again? Probably not! Its too horrifying
I really enjoyed it in the theatre yesterday, just wish they didn’t stretch out the ending soooooo long
I thought it was perfectly paced.
Freaking LOVED this so much! In regards to the original sequels .. Part 2 is SOLID, Final Conflict is a snooze fest… and , actually, Part IV is a fun time - totally ridiculous, but a lot more fun than Final Conflict. 👹
Got to see this tonight and thought it was absolutely fantastic! First 5 star worthy film of the year. (Late night with the devil is a solid 4 for me) I was concerned that it may be over hyped. But no! Deserves the praise it’s mostly getting. I love how 70’s this film feels! And it’s a great companion piece to the 1976 film! Which I’ve always liked but it’s never been a favourite of mine. Though I think this film has made me like that film even more. It’s somehow elevated it. Also the soundtrack is EXCELLENT! I honestly can’t think of anything I didn’t like about this film. I loved Nell Tiger Free as the lead! What a performance! Great horror imaginary! And some scenes were very disturbing. Also as a mother myself I found I was a bit sensitive to certain bits. But a great film makes you feel things. Which this does!
A couple of things I predicted but as it was so well executed, I was forgiving towards that. Just a very artsy and beautiful film but also with great characters and story. I loved how well it tied in with the original.
Wasn’t it amazing Charlotte?! This is the horror movie to beat this year. And I doubt anything I can do it. I want to see it again!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews this is going to be one great year for horror! I want to watch it again soon as well!
Sounds like whoever is running the genre films in Fox right now under Disney knows what they are doing. Unless I’ve missed one this makes it 3 for 3(Prey, Hellraiser, now this) of surprisingly good mid-budget genre films. It has me amped for Alien Romulus. I hope they keep this going of letting creatives do what they want with these films.
Preach. I just watched Prey again last night. So good. Can't wait for Alien Romulus.
The Omen is definitely a classic and imo as far as sequels go so is Damien Omen 2 I remember people applauding when the guy got cut in half when it came out when I was a kid and everybody talking about it living uo to the decapitation scene from Omen 1
I gotta say, I'm a little surprised that you're not a big fan of The Omen, Lee. But I do trust your opinion as a horror fan and fellow Gen Xer. I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie!
Yeah I need to rewatch the first.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews You should, Man! I'm just a couple years younger than you, and it's my favorite 70's horror movie!
I appreciate how personable you are. I noticed how often you respond to people on your channel. I'm pretty sure we've talked about 10 times now.
Fan of the OG. Pretty good. Better than expected. Would be higher if I hadn’t just seen immaculate which was good but very similar
Yeah having just seen Immaculate was a bit jarring.
You ever thought about doing a podcast? I would tune in if you did.
Thank you Craig. My live streams have sort of a podcast feel to them.
This was the scariest movie I’ve seen in YEARS
After watching your video u make me look back at my review 🙂↕️🙂↕️🙂↕️ because I didn’t realize how overwhelming positive remarks you gave this movie 😮😮
Bro give it another go. This is a TRUE horror film in every sense. It's amazing.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews appreciate you brother 💪🏿♥️
I didn't expect The Omen prequel to bee that good! Like, holy fuck, really brutal and heartbreaking when it needs to be.
Me neither! What a nice surprise.
oh p.s I know that first you tube comment that i post up on your channel doesn't get nothing to do with you is talking about I just wanted to saddle between this movie and the Exorcist ok that all thank you 😛
Look forward to seeing this one. Yes. Ignore the 4th Omen film like the plague. The 1st two are great. The 3rd- The Final Conflict is inferior buy has it's moments and a worthy follow up.
Funny enough, I have the 4th film on VHS.
I just watched 'The First Omen' today. I enjoyed watching it, did not leave my seat until the very end of the movie. I loved the twist, I was guessing what was going to happen next towards the end. The next time I watch the 1976 'Omen' with Gregory Peck, I will be wanting to shout out towards the television set how wrong the characters are.
Just caught this on Hulu. Really great, though I wish there were more kills in it, like The Omen. Only complaint.
Yes it’s awesome!
Wow is right that was great it was pure tension and violent
I haven't seen this film yet but I have heard some spoilers which has me confused given certain reveals from the 1976 film. How exactly is this prequel going to connect is there another film being planned that would then make more sense with the 1976 Omen? If there isn't a follow-up film planned that would directly tie into the original then I honestly can't see myself watching this prequel. Omen is one of my favorite religious horror franchises over The Exorcist and given what I've heard now regardless if a film goes against an established narrative that makes no sense to me I can't support it.
If you're referring to a specific retcon, I can tell you as a fellow passionate fan of the OG, it does so in a way that is tasteful and respectful. Its good. And I was someone who was hesitant to give it a chance after hearing certain things. I'm here to say it is really good.
Lee McCoy - Could do this type of prequel in terms of the direction of “The First Omen” with “Halloween”? Are there any similarities between Damien and Michael Myers from the David Gordon Green “Halloween” movies?
I was actually thinking that when I left the the theater. Imagine if Arkasha Stevenson directed a Halloween movie.
2011 the thing was a great prequel too.
I like that one.
so this comes out tomorrow damn i didn't know that it looks better then the Exorcist believe 2023 with Linda Blair 👿
Miles better.
Tought his mom was jackal. It will be interesting to watch this gem
Should I watch the omen 1976 or go to the movie directly
I'd recommend the original first. It'll help you appreciate some of the more bizarre aspects of this one.
Honestly I've seen the og, but I barely remembered any of it before watching this.
I’ve never watched the whole omen franchise. I’ve seen only the original from 1976 and the remake (2006) directed by John Moore. I liked both movies but the remake is way too similar to the original even though it improves some visuals. I don’t hate the remake and the first film is considered a classic for sure.
Me neither Vini. I've seen the first and some of the second.
Pearl is technically a prequel, right? This movie had my nerves twisted all the way up to the end!
