- Cancun is located in the northeast on the Yucatán Peninsula, Mexico and borders the Caribbean Sea. It is known for its white sand beaches, turquoise sea, numerous resorts, and nightlife. In this video we’ll show you the top 10 things to do in and around Cancun.
10. Cancun Scenic Tower
Take a ride up to an altitude of 262 feet, or 80 meters.
9. Visit the downtown
The 9th best thing to do in Cancun is to visit the downtown area. Downtown Cancun offers a great taste of local culture, with delicious street food, small shops, and cute parks.
8. Swim at nearby cenotes
At number 8 we have a truly refreshing and unique experience: swimming in the nearby cenotes. The Yucatan Peninsula in general is well-known for its cenotes.
7. Relax at the Hotel Zone
The Hotel Zone is the primary tourist area, filled with high-rise hotels, shops, bars, and restaurants. It is a 15-mile, or 24 km strip of beautiful white-sand beaches and deep blue water.
6. Cancun nightlife
Most nightclubs are located in the Hotel Zone and can get pretty wild. Coco Bongo is the most popular club in Cancun, featuring acrobats, cover bands and DJs.
5. Explore “local” Playa Tortugas
Located along a more quiet part of the Hotel Zone, Playa Tortugas offers a more local experience, with a relaxed atmosphere and clean sands. It’s also better for swimming, as the water is calm.
4. Isla Mujeres Day Tour
The fourth best thing to do in Cancún is to go on a day trip to the nearby Isla Mujeres. Only a 20 minute boat ride from Cancun, Isla Mujeres is a peaceful paradise known for its white-sand beaches.

3. Hidden gem “Isla Blanca”
About 12.5miles or 20km north of the city of Cancún sits the stunning Isla Blanca. You can get here by local collectivo, which leaves near the Farmacia Canto, at the corner of Avenida López Portillo and Calle siete about 3 times a day.
2. Day trip to Chichén Itzá
A trip to Cancun isn’t complete without visiting one of the 7 World Wonders. Chichén Itzá is located about 3 hours away from Cancun by car or tour bus. It was once a vibrant city with a diverse population of Mayan people extending well into the tens of thousands.

Back in 2006 my first time in Cancun I visited a small zoo called crococun, best experience ever! We were the only ones, a nice guy gave us a tour, walked in the crocodile area and I was able to hold one bucket list check ✅- and many other critters

How long did you spend in Cancun?
Is 5 to 7 days enough?
We spent a full week in Cancun only, the trips outside of Cancun were on various occassions as we've been to the Yucatan multiple times and for 2 months last year! We'd say 5 days is enough in the city only, but with the extra trips around 7 is better!

We use a go pro hero 10 and canon Eos 80d for our adventures! Also, we have a DJI Mini 2 drone 😄 go pro is definitely a must for the water activities as you can swim with it and it’s small to take with you

Is flying drone allowed and legal in/around Cancun ? By the way, this is very informative and beautiful captures of places there…
It was when we were there. Not everywhere because Cancun has the international airport so there are many restrictions around that zone. Some of this drone footage is actually stock because we weren't allowed to fly it. However, you're not allowed to fly it anymore if you're not a Mexican citizen or have a Mexican friend who can fly it for you... here is an article with the rules: www.droneblog.com/cancun

We didn’t do an all-inclusive there so can’t help on that end! But there are many reputable hotels in the hotel zone of cancun, like the RIU, Hyat and Paradisus
Cancun is such an amazing place to visit! My wife and I went there recently for our honeymoon and there’s just so much to see and do - there is a brilliant video of it 👏🏽

We stayed at Secrets Maroma, in Playa del Carmen and it was probably the best resort experience we’ve ever had. Then we stayed in Le Blanc Resort in Cancun and that was probably the best All Inclusive experience we’ve ever had. Both had amazing beaches too

We always search for flights via Skyscanner. It compares different flights via different websites. Then we book with the cheapest but reliable option for the flight suggested on Skyscanner. For hotels, we check deals on Booking.com. There’s a wide range of hotels on the platform with lots of reviews. So it makes it easiest to find a hotel that suits preferences. ☺️👍

Danku Lieve!! Ik zou zelf een auto huren en zelf rondrijden. Dat geeft je de ultieme vrijheid en flexibiliteit! De wegen in de Yucatan zijn heel goed en veilig. De meeste toeristische attracties / plekken hebben een beveiligde parkeerplek en je kan gemakkelijk je spullen in de koffer achterlaten. Veel plezier in Mexico! 😊

You definitely can but the statues are a bit far away! If the visibility is good you’ll be fine though! But it’s not like you’re swimming right next to them.

Early September isn’t the ideal time to go because it’s hurricane season indeed! Really depend on the year (2 years ago there was quite some damage but last year wasn’t so bad at all). Nevertheless, expect some heavy rains (sometimes just lasts an hour or so!)

We went during February-March and stayed for 10 days in Cancun (but 2 months total around the area). There's a lot of other cool places to visit outside of Cancun, both cheaper and less crowded with tourists...

Yes there are many nice ones actually! We did some shopping at Plaza Las Americas, which is a great one in downtown Cancun. There's also Las Plazas Outlet, an outlet mall. The hotel zone has smaller ones, like Plaza Caracol, Kukulcan Plaza, and Puerto Cancun Marina Town Center.

Well that really depends! Hotels in the hotel zone can be expensive (like a few 100$ per night), but if you stay in the downtown area it can be a lot cheaper (about 30-50$ per night can get you a nice room). Cancun needs to bring back the nightlife in the downtown area. Everything moved to Playa Del Carmen. I love Cancun in the late 80’s not so much now!

@@worldwildhearts The Zona Hotela is losing a lot of nightlife activities. You can see the empty malls that were once the nightlife hot spots… I bet you just recently went to Cancun. As for me, I traveled a lot to other places and returning to Cancun 15 times since 1988 so I know that Cancun is not as fun as it used to be. No guys running you down to offer free drinks, not anymore

You can get pesos out of the ATM! There’s tons of them in Cancún. Definitely better to have pesos cause with dollars they might overcharge you. Credit cards work in many places around cancun but not everywhere and also for taxis / buses you’ll need cash

It's not that easy, it's a bit of an adventure let's say as the bus options are limited and leave from downtown Cancun only. Alternatively, you could go by taxi which would make it a lot easier. We just walked all around it, but it isn't very developed yet

Is June a good month to go? Planning a vacation.
Hard to say! June is in the rainy season, also the second rainiest month in Cancun, so the closer you can visit to July, the better. However, there’s always some chance of rain in the tropics. So could be sunny and warm or rainy and overcast... you never know!

Any recommendations on cenotes for non-swimmers?
Most cenotes offer life vests for swimming! Grand cenote or cenote azul have lots of shallow areas

It really depends what you prefer. There’s many upscale hotels in the hotel zone but they are also quite expensive and good if you just want to stay mainly in that area. If you like to explore more outside of Cancún and are a bit more adventurous I’d recommend staying in downtown cancun. We stayed at Viento Suites Cancun and loved it. You can find it on booking.com. It’s a cheaper option but still a great location and nice rooms.

From the beaches. There’s many places around that will rent it!
How did you enter Mexico with your drone?
We just walked in… wasn’t a big deal when we visited but I heard it’s stricter now on foreigners!

Of course! Heard the diving there is amazing. One day we'll make it down!
