    feel like i could build this rack for much less, brackets and fairing will have to be fabbed, but the rails can be bought.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 3 lety

      You should build it up and take notice how much time and money it took you to build it. Figure out what your time is worth and add the material expenses and then subtract that from the cost of the Sherpa Equip Co rack and figure out if it was worth it.

      @kevinriese2167 Před 4 lety

      Timmy The Toolman thanks for the reply. I had a sailboat for 27 years and the wiring of radar and other electronic gear was always a pain since the manufacturer would put a huge water proof plug on their wiring harness, making it difficult to feed through bulkheads etc.. The light bar is no exception and wondering how you would feed it to battery without drilling a big hole on the roof of your vehicle. Thanks Tim.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 3 lety

      we haven't done this yet, but you could run them down the A-pillar, into the engine bay and through the firewall or drill a hole into the roof of your rig. Or find someway to sneak them into the cabin (maybe the rear hatch since it would be more discrete).

    Late to the party on this one, but thanks for another great video. I'm starting to look at roof racks, and it makes me want one of these even more after watching your install. A couple of Q's: (1) I recently pulled my stock roof rack rails off to re-paint them as they were fading/peeling (to kind of get them ready prior to installing a roof rack). I bought Permatex RTV to apply around the bolts and the holes to hopefully prevent water from getting in (I learned that could be a leak source from some comments in your sunroof drain videos). Should I also apply some type of silicone around the outer edges of the rail track to keep water from getting under there (since I've sort of broken that seal that has formed over time)? (2) how much vibration do you notice with the new rack installed, and do you notice any difference in weight on your rig when you pack stuff on the rack (vs. throwing that same stuff back in the cargo area), i.e., does it help since you're able to distribute weight up there more equally than inside the car? Thanks, as always, for the time you guys take to do these!

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 2 lety +1

      There is no need to apply silicone around the edges of the track, only where the bolts screw into the top of the roof into their respected holes. I haven’t noticed any additional wind noise or vibration and I have an 8’ awning on top now as well. The nice thing about a roof rack is you have the freedom to distribute weight differently and more evenly, I don’t put super heavy stuff up there but I suppose if you had something super heavy on top you might notice it a little when getting tipsy on an obstacle. Let us know if anything else comes up!

    Hi, I'm interested in this system that doesn't need drilling. Are the front bases safe? Minute 7: second 40
    It is not necessary some type of rubber or glue?
    Will it have the same support as drilled and screwed?
    Thank you for this great video.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 4 lety +2

      jaroja Rojas no glue necessary. The feet are a rubber material. The roof rack rails are secured with multiple screws into the roof. This rack fits into the stock railing. It’s very secure.

  • @karsonbussell4283
    @karsonbussell4283 Před 4 lety +1

    hello. i hope you respond still on this old video. i noticed when you put the mounting feet into the stock capture nets the orientation for both was different. does it matter which way they are slided it (black vs. silver top showing)

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 4 lety

      Karson Bussell put the bolts into the capture nuts the same way they came out of the roof rack track originally. So be sure to take note of the orientation they are in when you’re removing them.

    • @karsonbussell4283
      @karsonbussell4283 Před 4 lety

      Timmy The Toolman perfect thank you. One more thing. I’m a little confused on once the mounting feet are tightened. Do they not slide on the tracks at all?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 4 lety

      Karson Bussell once tight, they should not slide, loosen them up a little to adjust, & then tighten them down to the desired location. You don’t want them to move at all once your installation is done.
