    In this video we show you how to install a front and rear set of Durobumps on a 3rd Gen 4runner. Durobumps are aftermarket bump stops that are far superior to the OEM bump stops and also superior to other aftermarket bump stops on the market.
    Curtis, the owner of the Durobumps company put a lot of time and research into developing this product and the feedback he has received has been very positive. We were very happy to make this install video for Curtis because Sean and I believe in his product and are running them on our rigs.

    I can't recommend these enough. I've done a full lift/suspension upgrade, armor and a whole bunch of other mods and these may be my favorite upgrade. Going slow on the rocky trails of Colorado, I would bottom out even with the upgraded suspension. Once I installed these, the bottom-outs were so much less annoying. I used to grit my teeth and wait for my spine to crunch when the stock bumpstops hit. Not anymore. I can't speak to how these would do in high-speed off-roading but I don't think that's what they're for. Only problem I had was during the install I found my stock bump bolts were rounded and a PITA to remove. Other than that it was a breeze. 10/10

      Hey Aaron, glad you like what Sean and I are doing. We appreciate your support. As for Durobumps, I don't know why Curtis hasn't responded to your inquires. This is a side business for Curtis and he has expanded quicker than he can keep up with so he has hired people to help him out. It sounds like these people might not be doing their jobs answering emails in a timely manner. Maybe Curtis needs to hire more people or get rid of some and replace them with better ones. I have had many conversations over the phone with Curtis and he seems like a very stand-up guy. I have no doubt he is a solid dude and I"m sorry to hear you haven't had a great experience dealing with his company. I have no doubt you'll get the products you ordered. Hey thanks for that. Seemed like a really cool product with great room for it so I’m sure they are high demand. I love my current suspension setup but the bump stops are less than perfect. One cool thing about this interest is supporting great people doing creative things. Nearly EVERY piece of my current setup came from someone I enjoy as a human and I’m most satisfied with that. That includes the great knowledge gained from you guys. As it stands, durobumps are going straight back if they ever do show up. Would be nice if it’s just a matter of confused logistics and new business kinks to work out. I’ll post to you here if I do hear anything.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 2 lety

      You don't necessarily need those bump stops in the springs as long as you have the other bump stops that attach to the frame and will stop the up-travel of the rear axle before the shock bottoms out. If you really want them, you could grab some off a wrecked rig at a PicknPull yard or you could try to buy a used pair from someone. I know a guy, Josh Young, who parts out 4runners in Washington and he probably has a set he can sell you. Here's a link to his Facebook page. I got the 4.25 for the rear on my 16 Tacoma with a leveling kit. The bumpstop is real close to the frame. I can feel it hit everytime I hit a small bump. Is it supposed to do that? I'm thinking about downgrading to 3.5 or back to stock? What do you think?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 4 lety +1

      They shouldn't be hitting all the time. You should go with the shorter bumpstops. A leveling kit does nothing to the rear suspension since these Tacomas come from the factory with a positive rake (rear higher than the front). You probably got some type of spring spacer that brought up the front height to match the rear height so nothing changed in the rear. I don't know if you realize this, but Toyota gives their trucks and SUVs a positive rake so your rear end won't be sagging lower than the front when you load down with gear or whatever in truck bed or cargo area.

      It's not uncommon to have some oil in the area of the plenums due to the way PCV valve ventilates crankcase pressure into the upper plenum right near the throttle body. Now, engine oil residue in the area of the MAF doesn't make much sense to me. Do you have an OEM filter or are you using one of those aftermarket K&N filters?

      Your springs are tired or you have too much weight stored in the cargo area. If you are sitting low with no weight in the back, you need new springs. If you plan on carrying extra weight back there pretty regularly, aftermarket springs would be a good idea. OME 906 springs can handle more weight and will give you a 2 inch lift in the rear. This will give you a positive rake (rear higher than the front), but newer 4runners and Tacomas are set up exactly this way so when you load down with gear, you aren't sagging in the rear.

    So basically the other front oem bumpstop will no longer have functionality right?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 5 lety +2

      No, it still has functionality. The Durobump front bump stop is taller but is built from a progressively stiff rubber that gets firmer as it compresses down. When the lower control arm cycles up and down, the Durobump bump stop works as a shock absorber at first and then reaches maximum compression about the same time the front OEM bump stop makes contact with the frame. So, the front OEM bump stop is still working to limit upward travel of the LCA.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 4 lety +1

      The Durobumps can help with on road performance because these bumpstops are more pliable with better dampening than OEM or other aftermarket suppliers. But, if you're suspension is stiff because of the suspension set-up you chose, I don't think you'll experience an appreciable difference. The bumpstops come into play mostly at the extremes of your front end and rear end travel. When driving on the road, you're usually not hitting big enough bumps to be maximizing your suspension travel but you sometimes will hit bigger bumps on the road and that's when you'll notice the difference with the Durobumps.

    Will this help mitigate body roll at highway speeds?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 3 lety

      No, they won't. That's not what bump stops do. The thing that helps body roll is sway bars. Do you have both your front and rear sway bars on your rig?

    • @frankdelucey2137
      @frankdelucey2137 Před 3 lety

      @@TimmyTheToolman I have both front and rear sway bars on everything is stock on this vehicle it is 21 years old.
      I only noticed the swaying after I replace the struts on the front of the truck and the shocks on the rear and then I started to get sway but they did raise my vehicle up about an inch higher than what it was with old shocks and struts. Every thing looks and sounds great with visual inspection. And it is stock ride height no mods.

      Hey Israel, I actually just installed the Durobumps on my rig yesterday. It was Sean's rig we used for the video. I was going to get them on sooner but was busy doing other stuff. Because I find myself working on other people's rigs so much, I often times don't feel like working on my own. Sean did go on a wheeling trip in Pismo recently and maybe he has a comment on how the ride improved with the bump stops. But, regardless of our opinions, the Toyota forums are full of guys praising how well these bump stops work.

      @@TimmyTheToolman : Alrighty. Could we still use these on our 4runners even though we dont use them for offloading. We're looking to make our riding experience more smooth in the city going over railroad tracks, or just some bumpy roads. I got new shocks but still feel the ride could be smoother over the rough spots. Would these still be recommended for lighter use like us?

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  Před 5 lety

      @@israelrodriguez6986 Yes, they will definitely improve the ride even if you're not off-roading. It's just that you'll notice it more off-roading due to the fact you're on a rougher driving surface.
