Solsbury Hill was Peter's fist solo single and features on his debut, self-titled album, that was originally released in 1977. It's been a firm live favourite ever since, as this video shows. - Hudba
My late husband adored Peter Gabriel. He died aged 31. I’m nearly seventy, but this binds us forever together. He is the young Peter. He never lived to be the older version. RIP my love and thank you for the beautiful memories and two beautiful children
Bless you
Yes bless you my dear
He will always be with you.x
Stay strong friend
My heart 💓
‘ grab your things I ‘ve come to take you home’ this line gets me everytime. Returning to your loved ones, those who are no longer with us. 😢💕
Peter was perfection and at his most gorgeous in his 1996 Secret World Tour.
Das ist unser Lied, wir sind jetzt 23 Jahre zusammen.
“Grab your things, I’ve come to take you home” gets me every time. Everyone in difficulty should hear those words at least once in their lifetime 💔
Yes. What you wrote is exactly what I feel, too.
ME TOO
2024, and I wish I was there for this moment in music history. I love it so much.
World would be a right boring place without these awesome people.👍
I lost my husband 3 days ago and yesterday at his funeral we listened to this song during the memorial service which was one of his favourites! He was 69 years old and lived listening to the music of Peter and his beloved Genesis. Every time I listen to it I feel like I have it close to me 💔💔
So Sorry for your loss,my father died suddenly 3 months ago and he loved this song.Stay strong ❤
Sorry for your loss
my heart is with you
SO VERY SORRY for your loss. I'm 62.5 years old over here across the pond in metro Detroit Michigan. My Husband is 72 years old and I can't believe how many of our friends & classmates have died over the past 20+ years. I've always adored Peter Gabriel and even though I still have my Husband, I still feel your pain & grief over losing yours. Sending NON STOP light and LOVE ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
sorry for your loss
This song will never get old. Sounds as great as it did 30-40 years ago. ❤❤❤
I perform it as a busker every time I go out. My best piece and favorite. 🤗

Released in 1977 and fresh as a daisy still…Gabriel is a genius and should be Sir Peter by now!
Classic! Peter your songs never fade
Only a genius can compose a masterpiece like this. Thank you.
Peter Gabriel 🙏. We are so fortunate to have grown up with music and the artists that made the best music EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If there was an editing oscar for music videos, the person who put this together should have gotten it. It is flawless. I have always loved this song, this video just makes me love it more.
It is so brilliant, watch it every Friday night , love the gabrial
Yes, 19 million+ views and counting, a few hundred must be mine and I play this when I'm feeling down, the song is brilliant and this shows Peter's energy over the years for which I can only have the most respect. Thanks for this edit of different times, It's simply brilliant and has given my family so much joy. Respect.
With ya on that Chris
Pure genius
I would prefer to see videos of each of the earlier concerts.
I just 64 , I don't remember getting old, I just remember waking up that way. I have loved Peter Gabriel for as long as I can remember. Music, the magical time machine😊
So I am.😂❤
64 is not old, enjoy.
The world wouldn't be the same without Peter Gabriels music in it.
in your eyes is the best song Peter Gabriel ever produced.
One of those songs I NEVER, EVER get tired of hearing!
. Jo
HEAR! HEAR!
I concur.
Amen
Yeah. Me too my friend.
This song holds a special place in the hearts of those of us who listened and loved in the late 70’s and early 80’s… Peter Gabriel is a genius
👍👏
Indeed a genius
To me, this is the most perfect song ever written. It doesn't feel or sound dated. It's still as fresh and timely as when it was written. Tony Levin is such a joy to watch, he turns everything he is involved in pure gold. He and Peter obviously enjoy playing together, The way the work off each other. Thank you Peter, Tony and everyone in the band and anyone involved with the video. Very well done!
Right.
Tony Levin + Peter Gabriel = MAGIC
21st century SAGES of COOL + LOVE.
❤What a perfect time to be a teenager! What great memories I hold along with this song. It is imbedded in my soul for all my life! I so wish I could feel that way again…❤️🙏☃️❄️
@@Virgovixen10 Pardon my intrusion, but I do believe you MAY be feeling that way again now? You sound exactly like me back then, looking foward to "feeling that way again" in the very near future again, bouncing around the after-school empty living room carpeted with some discarded pieces we found by the sides of the road.
We felt like kings and the carpet was MAGICAL and we were just FLYING through all space and all eternity ... grooving to the beat of Mr. Gabriel's genius. We did not know enough to be afraid of jack. Not during the bouncing off the wall sessions. We flew up out of the night time of our Day Time with that great EAGLE taking us up up into our highest Aspirations!!!!!!!
Trust me. Virgo Vixen, you WILL get your wish and FEEL THAT WAY again. Over and over and over. In your far far away future. And future is always far far away. Now is always eternal. Our bodies are just vehicles. We get to UPGRADE our vehicles as we go forward. No problem.
FEARLESS!!!!!!!! 🥳🔥🎉

This is a good song to dance to
This video is "my place in the world". I come here again and again.... My heart goes boom boom boom ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Our youngest son had a rough start in life and had to spend 5 days in nicu before he got strong enough to go home with us and his twin brother. During those days, we were all still in the hospital and as I knew his feeding schedule I went to check every time I could, or feed him myself. Day and night. Every day, every night. On the morning rounds of the last day, I was told he was good to go if I was confident about getting him fed sufficiently. I bursted in tears of joy like a kid. We got him checked out and I was allowed to roll him over to the newborns department where my wife and the twin brother were waiting for me to get back. I opened the door and said 'honey grab your things, I've come to take you home' while I rolled in our youngest behind me. Good phrase so I thought. So, after all the paperwork was done and we got in the car, this song just so happened to come on the radio. Kids are almost 2 years old now and perfectly healthy, but the song still gets me goosebumps and a tear in my eye.
Nice! God bless all of you! 🙋
I feel you!! GREAT Song, and Son he said:
“grab your things- I’ve come to take you home” great line for always when you’ve loved ones coming back!
Thanks for sharing such a great story! There is no such thing as coincidence...
Great song...and we are going home someday...maybe soon...
Wonderful!
50 years of my life just passed in front of my eyes, no better way than to do that with Peter Gabriel. Thanks!
I understand! Such a joy!
Same here
But what great memories! If watching this makes you as happy as me, then we have had good life’s.
55 :) ;)
Uninhibited, unabashed, unbridled expression of joy... Quite unusual today.. Yet infectious nonetheless
Who ever put this video together just amazing. I think I counted 4 decades. Incredible. Best song.
Nice to see how we age but remain to be the same person
One of the greatest songs ever created....MASTERPIECE !
The energy on that stage is almost contagious!!!!
Yeah, kinda like that's what joy looks like
Can we all agree that Peter Gabriel has aged like a damn good wine? Jeez the man is beautiful 😍
True - bald, chubby old - but when hes on that bike and he smiles - he'd get it.
When your first single is this song... What a talent
In 2016 I was hospitalized. A 7 hours surgical operation saved my life. During the days at the hospital I listened to this song many times, and I kept listening when I came back home.
The line that goes like 'Hey, he said, grab your things I'm going to take you home' always hit me deep thinking about my father that drove me back home. I lost my father two years ago and, despite being a 50 years old man now, I just can't keep from crying every time I listen to it.
Your father is with you. Always. Be a great father to your children so they can cry and remember you has you remember your father
@@ThatGuyMalasartes thank you for your sweet words.

My father passed in April of 2021. 85 years old and he was one of the kindest humans I’ve ever known despite him being a military officer. He saw the good in people. I’m 49 and this song brings tears to my eyes because I was a 6-7 year old boy when this came out and it takes me back when we were all happy as a family when I was a boy. I miss him and those times.
One of the best things I've heard recently was this: "I love talking about it by the way so if I cry, it's only a beautiful thing. This is all the unexpressed love, right? The grief that will remain with us until we pass. We never get enough time with each other..." - Andrew Garfield, speaking about his mother's death
Whenever I hear this song it brings tears. My 34 year old son passed in March, 2018 and the lyrics make me believe he was taken home. Boom, boom, boom.
May God bless him and keep him. We all go home some day. xxx
So sorry for your loss

Sorry for your loss xx
Sorry pal.
'Son... grab your things, I've come to take you home'. For those of us who have grown old with Peter Gabriel, that line, like the entire video, is so uplifting. Wonderful.
Yes sir..
You couldn't be more correct. Peace from Atlanta, Georgia.
He is amazing❤️
Beautifully put.
That line has stuck with me since I first heard it, and I thought I was the only admirer 😃
Still the best video I’ve EVER watched
Yes I agree
I was only 8 years old when Solisbury Hill was released, yet I hope they play it at my memorial. Thank you Peter.
i love this song and video montage, but i didn't realise how amazing this video is until tonight. Its cut from 6 different live performances over 35 years!! Its so unbelievably connected and edited , the joy of each concert, so visible. Peter Gabriel is a genius but the person or team who put this video together, unbelievable magic! Thanks so much on behalf of everyone who enjoys it.
Joyous!
It is really almost 5 decades of brilliance, from performing in 1977 to the 2010s - just incredible
For sure. He is something very special.
Unfortunately some of his multi-media work is not only hard to come by, but alto technical difficult to explorer or a modern computer. But then there is montages likes this that are just amazing in subtlety, but on the same time holds lots of depth.
Also, it is clear Peter Gabriel has something about things spinning from stages, to biking on a spinning stage to also being inside a giant ball.
How many singers are singing?
@@johnjeffreys6440 Lead singer all the way is Mr. Gabriel him self, that is part of why the montage is pretty special.
This has to be one of the best videos ever made! From his young youthful performance to what he performs today as an older man! Plus it is an awesome friggin song!! Yes?
YES!
Yes!
No. "Yes" did "Broiler of a Salty Steak" or "Vampire, in a Salty Cave."
Yesssss
YES!!
This is what unity, happiness, love sounds like. If we closed our eyes and let ourselves be carried away by the sensation generated by this sound, who knows, perhaps wars, darkness and evil would perish, in the end, it is still in our hands, and this is a call to it! Thanks for this.❤
I struggle to find the words. This song was great in 77 when I listened as a 7 year old. Its great now as I listen as a 53 year old. And, to add to that, this video shows that passage of time. I watch and listen but also see my life in stages...brilliant
I agree.
Absolutely brilliant song and performances spanning 35 years. There's no one like Peter Gabriel!
Yep Jim D. PG was pretty special. Genesis kept going after he left but to this day the fans would love to know why he left. It's Peter's business, of course, but it would be good to know.
@@SuzyQ334 I believe that is what this song is about. His decision to leave Genesis. Most likely his reason for leaving was due to artistic differences, but as you said. We may never know. I also agree with you that Peter Gabriel is a special guy. I am not a big Genesis fan. I find Peter Gabriel resonates more with me.
@@mp1201 Spoken like a different, but true fan.
As mentioned this song was all about leaving Genesis ..."I felt part of the machinery" etc..
Also, the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway album, although recorded by Genesis was almost entirely written by PG and this caused some friction within the band.
As a footnote, He is still performing this song in 2023 on his i/o tour, so that's 45 years now, and counting
Agree, but have you heard Burce?
The best rocksong ever. I'm a fan since I was 16, now I'm 61. A friend who had to undergo a heart surgery, listened to this song just before she entered the operating room. It gave her courage. By the way, she is OK now!
Good to hear
One year older than you, sir. And still love this powerful song.. We were lucky to be brought up on this type of music. I pity the next generation who are spoon-fed what I can only call manufactured, conveyor-belt music of today.
…..Do I hear echoes of my parents knocking my musical tastes? Christ, I’m turning into my dear departed mum and dad!
@@tompurcell1499 hahaha couldn't agree more Tom, some of the material my sons and his friends are into is, well shocking to say the least, full of profanity and hate for woman etc etc. Like you said buddy , I feel blessed I was born in the 70s was so I got to grow with 80s music!! All the best Tom 👍 👌
I wish my best friend survived his heart attack. I am glad your friend survived.. . . it.

Sir , You are True Legend ....Thank you for the several decades of Masterpieces....🎤🎼🎸🎹🪈🔥👊💪
He is eternally beautiful at any and every age.
A solo act that has the same band members for decades means you are great to work with
You are so right. He is one of the best. It seems he didn't get the rich blessings of those who decide what we need to hear on the radio. That's why I like youtube so much because I get to decide what I listen to and Gabriel is always on the top of my best 10. His voice is still rich and strong at a much older age than most.
Except that band wasn't good enough to play Supper's Ready. By Gabriels own admission. The bass player went on to play with some interesting groups such as King Crimson and Transatlantic.
@@tixximmi1 well he kept plenty of them for along time
@@allensaunders449 But no Suppers Ready. Guess you can't jump around on stage with that song.
@Robert Vaughn You're right that's why I think Gabriel sucks. Supper's Ready will be around a lot longer than any nameless Gabriel stuff. Even the man himself has admitted that.
I just re-watched this after commenting on it several months ago. Putting aside the brilliance of the song and the talent of the musicians, this is just a fucking BRILLIANT piece of video engineering.

Peter Gabriel is a genius. As much for its creativity (songwriter, singer, showman) in the original Genesis (co-founder) as for its brilliant evolution in his own solo career between technology, world music, experimental sound, classic music but always with beautiful rock melodies. Peter Gabriel was educated in a musical English family (College of Charterhouse) and could learning piano, flute, percussions, mime and dance. But his major asset will forever remain his charismatic voice. Now, we're looking forward to the new Peter Gabriel's album.
Look forward to his new album
The crowd can't clap because of the weird time stamp on this song. Lol
What,an exaggeration! Great voice and composing skills. Flautist?! Amateurish! Ever heard Ian Anderson or James Galway? And Tony Banks, Phil
Collins, and Steve Hackett are far greater musicians than Gabriel.
Box, Wiltshire - a fabulous music story.
yes, I'm finding Peter more appealing by the album, such talent
Fell in love with white coat PG. saw the black leather vest PG in concert. Seeing older PG as a true peer. Perfect. This particular song connects me to my mother and the day she died. I played it over and over and screamed as is expected

This song is so incredible important to me. When I was kicked out of my home, and I had nowhere to go, my I rang my future husband, which I didn't knew at that time yet, we hardly met a few times, and he said, you can move in with me. Dean Klein good luck, hope you're doing well.
Yes, hope you're doing well too.... Beautiful. Music is so healing. I am a not a son, I am a daughter but, when I was 19 (1979), my father turned to me and said those exact words, "Grab your things I've come to take you home". No other words have ever brought me such comfort. Today, I still hear his words whenever I am unsure or scared. xo
Undestood, Dean, I hope all the best for You. In the age of 55 I see this also some kind of retrospective of our lives; the Song remains the same, but step is getting shorter than almost 40 years ago. Also less hair but more mass...
*Solsbury Hill...I’m pretty sure Salisbury is a type of beef steak? 🤔
It kills me that it will take his death for so many to finally appreciate him. He’s one of the most influential, diverse, and talented artists of any kind to ever exist. Let’s enjoy it while he’s here, not watching the biopic later.
Between his Genesis stuff and his more accessible solo career, he was just a genius. I agree, more have to hear his work!
His Death?I hope he is far away from that.69 is a good age far from dying. In 20 Years maybe.
Once I was sick in a hospital and I asked to hear this song. I don't know why but it makes me feel so good... Tanks, Peter, for all your music. I met you long time ago in Seville, Spain. I was one the journalists at the press meeting. I still have a picture with you, my sister and a friend. It was 1988 or 89.
