My wife passed 20 months ago and we get lost driving she put the CD in sing all the long way home LORD I miss her
May God bless you, 20 months is not that long. It's been 12 years for me. With time you will treasure the memories and the bad parts will fade away. Don't bottle it all up, tell your friends and family how you feel even if they don't know just what to say to you.

I lost my beloved wife at 30. I'm 60 now and after raising the kids alone, I'm finally about at the end of the road. It's been a very long way. I hope I get home.

Your comment made me more Thankful than I already was!
Lori Findley turned me on to Supertramp at 15 years old. She was my friends older sister and one day she sat me down and slapped some headphones on and played breakfast in america. It was such an experience that i still tell story 40 years later. Thank you girl hope you're doing well
Real musicians, real music, real talent, no autotune, this song gives me chills everytime ❤❤❤❤

The RnR HOF is a joke like the magazine Rolling Stone. I’ll never forget their bad reviews of Led Zeppelin. Incredibly pathetic
My Father wanted this played at he's funeral but because of covid he never had a funeral... Great song, RIP Dad I love ya!!

I was broke and living in a car when this song came out. My life had come to a total stop. This song came on the radio, and it spoke volumes to me. I knew it would be a long way home, to get back into decent living and no longer a waste cake. 50 years later, I'm back home in my home state, and have a home and a family and even a show car. It was a long way home. My next home is Heaven.
Good for you, give that Sky Fairy a pass though.

@@lovetowatchable Thanks, life is good if you don't weaken.

huh! I can remember listening tothis song when Iwas homeless sleeping on a church's floor. It felt like the long way home. I bought supplies for myself at the local dollar store. I felt like a failure as a former combat soldier back from so much war. It gave me strength this song. I look back, never forgetting that journey-First Sergeant Belle now a Dr.

hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here.
I grew up in South Jersey, when I was 17, I drove everywhere in my 68 firebird. Once I heard Supertramp I couldn't stop listening. They saved me over and over in my heart and soul with their spiritual songs. They have always been my favorite. Babaji and Even in the Quietest Moments. I must have listened to them a couple of thousand times back then. Life is a fantasy. You tried to tell me back then and I finally got it. Is it time to know....Babaji, Babaji. Thank you for Babaji!!!
Same here Deborah. Also a southern Jersey gal. Wishing you love!!

I was only a kid when I fell in love with this. My parents listened to it all of the time. After we lost my father in 88 my mother started taking every back road she could find on her way home from work. It was her chance for a road soda and to breath before coming home to reality. I lost mom to cancer in 2018. Now I find myself going out of my way to take the long home Happy Mother’s Day.
That hit me hard.thank you for sharing. Im in California and because of my mom I might have to go back home to Virginia. Great song from the past
Back in 1979 when life was easy... I miss those easy days.. Take another breakfast in amrica...
No country, hip hop,rap,rock-n-roll,pop music of today can top this and you damn well know it.
that why we are all listening to the good ones
I was in middle school when this came out and now, at age 62, I’m finally seeing a live performance lol… better late than never lol
We were at this very concert!!! My wife has been a fan of Supertramp, and of Roger for many years, so sang along to every song.
Me too amazing 😊
That harmonica still makes goosebumps appear on my neck. I just love this song. Always have, always will..
Me too.❤
Same here. You can feel it just cut through you. Awesome music 🎶
Gotta have the harmonica! Love it when an...uncommon instrument is used, and it's not only good, but part of a song's identity!
It's a lance. A cry.
Same!
Supertramp: unquestionably up there in the pantheon of the greatest bands ever. Real intelligent music that means something. No drivel, no polyfiller just pure genius. Lost on today's generation I fear...
Yup, I put them up there with Elton John....
100%. Let’s count our generation’s luck…
Summed it up perfectly
100% correct but I don't blame this generation for not understanding how things really are. The whole world is set up in a way that confuses people deliberately
Sadly I have to agree with you: politicians the world over don't like people who can think for themselves.
Roger is a humble and great man. I played this song on my brothers' funeral in 2011.
When this song arrived in my youthful life, my brother and I would listen over and over again waiting for our father to return into our devastated lives! We needed you more than you could ever imagine dad! I love and miss you! Thank you Roger for writing the songs of my youth!❤
These guys have more musical talent in their dandruff than many current bands do in their entire existence!
Dandruff. [god, i'm laughing at that choice of contrast]. Okay, I understand what you mean.
yep!
Yes they really do. They are just awesome.

That is Rick Davies, and he's arguably the best at bending notes there ever has been. I can bend decent over 20 years of practice, but not that good.

Aaron MacDonald on the harmonica and saxophones is absolutely phenomenal! Sends shivers down my spine when he plays! Outstanding acoustics and sound engineering, too! And, naturally, Roger Hodgson is superb!
And back up vocals as well
My homey from London Ontario. Great guy.
Was he the guy on the bus with a ice pack on his head in the video "Its Raining Again"?
BRILLIANT song from a great songwriter !…….LOVED Supertramp & the lyrics in this song are something we can ALL relate too at some point in our lives !!!……thank GOD for songs like this !!!!
No one now days has an idea of what music really is. This is amazing! Dying breed. Someone needs to do something and get this kind of music in kids lives! This stuff heals and gives people inspiration. Now days it is compromised! Very sad!
I have just found these videos. (Admittedly not much into tech.) I was listening to Supertramp on the Alexa a few days ago and still love the sound. How I missed it. Agreed this music heals. A lot of music does. I recall being in a dark place in my late teens, absorbing Supertramp's sound - those harmonica and saxophone sounds are incredible - and poring over the lyrics. So positive and oh that music, for me, expressed such hope. The darkness went a few years later. The hope lasts. Forty years later Roger Hodgson's music is still magical. The fact he wrote these in his late teens is just amazing to me. Such insight. Thank you Sir. Your compositions were a light to a lost and lonely soul. God bless you.
Yes ma’am Sheila…
I don't think there will ever be another era of music as great as this generation was. What a spectacular and inventive era this was....glad to have been part of this for sure!!!!
Who is listing to this in 2020 ???? Brings back memories good old days.
A moi aussi cette merveille de chanson rappelle de beaux souvenirs.
I am. But Before last night Id only heard their songs at the grocery store, and didn’t know it was them.. for some reason I clicked a live version I’m just kind of blown away by how much much more soulful and funky they are live. Listening to their concert from Paris on a repeat.
Good old days for sure 😸
Back then - today - always :-)
True that. Love the feeling!
Songs like this mean so much and at time in my life 3am in the morning sleeping in the car after driving to London in the 80s waiting for the morning to start work from then on the way my life changed for the good xxx
Well done 😊
My first real concert, and at Alpine Valley Music Theater! SUPERTRAMP UNFORGETTABLE AND AWESOME
Oh my! The voice is 98% still there, and the quality is intact. So here are my teenage years dancing back in.
Absolutely, same here
Ikr I'm here with ya
I watch this vid about once a month. Not only an amazing song but every musician is so seasoned and knows exactly where their part fits! When you have that perfect unity and humility, something magical happens and a song goes to a whole new dimension! I can’t explain it, I just FEEL it!
There's something so resonant in this song, I think they'll be listening to it 'till the heat death of this universe.
I was probably 10 or 11 when this came out. Had been playing anything with keys on it since 4, but only bits n pieces. I heard this, and it inspired me to finally sit down and hv the discipline to actually play one start to finish. It touched me even then and I've moved on to become a known keyboardist for many, even Grammy winners. Funny how one song can start u off in the right direction
Music, lyrics...exceptional, the world urgently needs groups like SUPERTRAMP!!!
I met him in Barcelona, 1978. As a member of the Supertramp fan club they allowed me to enter the dressing rooms. He gave me some autographs and we shook hands. He was very kind.
Lucky you!

Soooo incredibly proud of my friend Aaron McDonald on sax/keys/clarinet/vox/harmonica! Though I haven’t seen him in years, he was a London Ontario musician I always loved playing with and he always had that ‘it’ factor. Im not surprised he found the success he did. A great guy and great musician.

I believe he walked away from Supertramp in its heyday to be a stay home father now he’s back on stage: His children must be immensely proud of him
Ironic since it's about being free from a mundane relationship.

Amen to that my man I'm saddened by this new generation of shit music IMO. Rap and Hip Hop, there's some good stuff here and there, but I feel like it doesn't have the feels and soul that connect with me. Bands like Supertramp, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Queen, Steve Miller Band, Elton John, Journey, Billy Joel etc.
My mother likes this band and she danced their music now she's resting in peace thanks so much Roger ❤❤

This is the perfect example of what rock and roll should be. Always the best. Still growing up on Supertramp.
Supertramp was the a big part of my pre-teen years. Many years later I was working for a music manufacturer and was working our booth at the NAMM show and someone taps my shoulder and in a quiet voice asked me if the owner was around. I turned around and there was Roger. Now I met a LOT of musicians while working there, but meeting Roger was one of the biggest treats! I was so familiar with his music and he was so kind and friendly.
share it with everyone, good story!
Reading these memories that music brought back to the forefront of everyone’s mind has made me so emotional. And filled with happiness that other people experience song the same way. TY All so Much sharing 💜
