- My Firebox Scout Stove Using Propane And Alcohol! During my 36 hours of freedom, I filmed six videos. This one is of my using my firebox scout stove with an alcohol burner and my Trangia gas burner using propane. Being a long time of dealing with adverse life situations and the end of the day, Salty Skipper showed up to expound a moderate "Camp Chow" rant. What can I say Folks, It is what it is. I hope there is something useful you can get out of this one. If nothing else, there are a few bloopers at the end...
Howdy John! I always look forward to all of your videos. I just have one piece of advice for you my friend, and that is to completely ignore any and all negative comments. I wouldn't even mention them in your videos. I know it's hard to not say anything about them but I think it feeds the fire. Your channel ROCKS! Just remember that the majority of your viewers really like and appreciate your channel. Those who like to leave negative comments are only a very small percentage and probably are not subscribed to your channel. Great video today and I know you will have more to come!

Hey John, glad your able to get out in the woods. I wish could. Cant right now. I don't know, I did not perceive a rant. I think your fine. I have a few of those little stem lighters. I love them. I am a bit timid when it comes to lighting an alcohol stove with one with no stem. I found some and now carry them. I think I like your favorite way better. By using a storm match to light it. It does feel like fireworks. Either way its fun. Thanks for sharing. God bless you.

(I 'heard it first' on your channel.😍) Thanks to your demonstration series, I will not expect a Firebox Scout Stove to be a good fit for a Trangia burner.
Thanks Brother! I think the Trangia gas burner, even on a low setting is just too intense for the "little feller". I'll be mindful when I use wood pellets as they burn pretty hot as well.
Thanks John for the video. Enjoyed the cooking. Kind of an issue with that Scout Stove. Would definitely turn me off using it with the pressurized gas.
Yup! I'll be mindful when I use my wood pellets as they burn pretty hot too. I won't be using the gas burner with it anymore.

I believe John has created a marketable design with that 'coosie'. (The term comes from the British 'tea cozy' that was used to keep a pot of tea warm.) I believe Mountain House and Real Turmat should sell these along with their meal offerings!😍🤔

Last weekend we survived very handsomely on freeze dried sausage, beef with eggs & tea, there were some frozen veggies in the mix. Had -8'C overnight with our long running alcohol burner safely hanging in the tent. Ground was chilly with our summer pads overlayed with reflective mats. Tent was +5'C. The best thing is getting out. I had no reception for data & didn't care. Keep on truckin'!

As always I love the bloopers. Let me tell you something skipper or should I say salty skipper, anytime You say what you want to I'm sure there are AHS out in your comment so ignore them and go on about your business. As far as the way you eat when you go out, you eat however and whatever you want to eat you are feeding you not us so just keep that in mind. I don't know why anybody would say anything about it anyway. I usually don't read any comments except for my own. I love that little lighter, I am definitely going to be on the lookout for those little things. As far as your stove goes well most of my stuff is deformed I mean I know you just started using that but I mean sometimes using stuff in the field well stuff happens. One thing I noticed that you didn't do and you didn't say grace before you started eating but that's up to you if you don't want to that's fine it don't bother me I just happened to notice it. Keep these good videos coming I love them. I look forward to the next one. Stay vigilant my friend! PS I know you've been going through a rough patch take your time actually take whatever time you feel you need because I've been through them I understand. From time to time I still have a rough day thinking about my wife but I keep going and that's all we can do. Stay strong.

still waiting to get the Scout
I love Tortellini for a quick meal, great for camping too
stove deformation - propane burns HOT & is a higher pressure
should use iso-butane which is what the Trangia Burner was made for
maybe set the burner in a lower hole
so many people turn burners wide-open
I don't mind a longer boil time using less fuel

MRE's and before that C Rations all had there good and bad but all were high in fats and carbs. which is what we need in the field. it's the young bucks that think they know what they are talking about haven't a clue even the one's that have military experience don't have the experience out in the field without their food being made for them or having their MRE warmed up, they don't really know how to rough it.

It's amazing to me that someone watches a very small percentage of someone's life, (doing the math, this 40min video is 0.39% of a week) and think that what they eat in that small moment is bad. Even people on extreme diets can eat a pizza once a week and not interfere with their diet. And then there is the audacity to tell someone else they are doing it wrong. In the words of the musical group Extreme - "If you don't like what you see here, get the funk out"

Hey have you any experience with drying out a meal in a dehydrator, reconstituting it with boiling water / heating it up in the boiling water-- inside the vacuum seal bag? I am skeptical of the plastic they use for the vacuum seal bags, being in the boiling water, either meting to oblivion or leeching plastics into your chow. Is that why you save your Mountain House bags? Just asking what you made me think while so rudely eating all that GREAT FOOD in front of me like that. Haha! If critics want to critique, at least let the first TRY the potted meat... Cheers, brother!
I have used home dehydrated ingredients in my camp cooking. I think the big thing about using the vacuum seal bags is to boil them in a large vessel with a lot of water. If there was anything pointing in the bag, it would have lost its seal and would be loose, you'd see it right off and wouldn't want to boil with it.

i cant say my point of view as it would get you struck off here. we all eat junk one way or another yours just tastes nicer. growing up stuff hi the floor it had the ten second rule, look what the poor guys make in the field nd look at the homeless or refugees eat and then comment i say. you do you and if you dont like turn over or watch the campfire tv (the fire your are sat around). more please and to those that moan about dropped food think about the cans of soda you rip open outsid ethe store and how clean from storage and travel that is.
