How to Brew an India Pale Lager - Perfect Bike Ride Beer
Vložit
- čas přidán 2. 06. 2024
- Love a crisp lager? Love a fruity, hoppy IPA? In this video, Kyle and Ross combine both beer styles to brew up a deliciously refreshing India Pale Lager (or IPL). We believe this is the perfect beer to enjoy after a day in the beautiful outdoors, so we canned the beers ourselves and embarked on a strenuous, 25-mile bike ride to the top of Buzzard Rock, NC - the perfect spot to crack open a cold one and enjoy a great view with friends. Check out this video to see how we brewed, fermented, canned, and enjoyed this perfect pairing of two great beer styles (and don’t worry, there are plenty of pointless shenanigans).

This episode is better than any show ever made on network TV. You guys are great.
100% accurate.
I am a simple man, I see a Clawhammer video, I click, I crack a cold one, I enjoy.
The combination of Emmet, Kyle and Ross always makes me so happy. Long live Clawhammer!
This is fantastic. The production value, the people, the humor, the energy, the friendships, the nature, the beer and the beards. If you did this episode 50 times over with other beers, I'd binge them in a heartbeat.
Once in a while, I wish I could like a video twice. This is one of those times.
My thoughts exactly
Production value through the roof on this one!
Production values on this channel are unreal👌
Best comedy short story bike riding educational brewing reality show documentary I've ever seen and we want more thank you.
I agree with so many of the comments below. You guys are absolute class. I love this video.
Sending gratitude from England
PS I love Slayer too 🤟
Best channel on here. Case closed. Please bring back the drum fills and snare sounds for the fermentation buckets, that's the only thing I'm missing!
Nobody makes better home-brew videos than you guys.
This might be the best video yet. Keep up the good work.
You guys make me wish I had friends!
I love that you guys featured a Pocket Operator!!!
Y'all just keep improving! Don't own your equipment but you guys are the real beer-video-funboys of home brewing.
yo, great production on this one.
As a ginger, I can relate to Emmet and his pocket full of spray sunscreen.
The best part of riding up a mountain for 3 hours is that 5 min ride back down.
Lol it's true too
Wish we could've seen it in a glass to see how well the fining agent worked
Good question. It did not work well... But this could have been due to a sloppy transfer between the fermenter bottling bucket during packaging. Can't quite remember how that went but definitely can say that the beer is pretty cloudy.
@@ClawhammerSupply Another class vid guys. For clear beer you should have cold crashed > filled a keg > added gelatine > force carbed. Then after a week of cold conditioning filled the cans from the keg using a beer gun. Love your guys' laissez fair attitude to brewing, it gives me life
Nice Puch Emmet!
This looked like a blast to brew, film, and drink! Cheers fellas!
I am looking at you from France and I adore you !! Bike and beer, it's just happiness!
Sweet North Stars shirt, Ross.
Edit: also I appreciate Emmet’s bojangles run; my man had to fuel up for the climb.
Solid video brajjes!
Minnesota North Stars sweater! Awesome!
Awesome production, great story! Thanks, guys
Hands down. Best video yet!
i live for these edits!!!!
Great video guys. That was a lot of fun to watch. Keep up the good work. Cheers
I love this video. Great entertainment!
Your content quality is through the roof as always
Great video lads!
Beer bikes and session spots also food everything we all love keep these coming
Wow - by all means - that is great storytelling! A solid 24min short movie!
Great video!
Hey, thanks for inspiring me to home brew. I made a Belgian Trippel and I could not be happier with the results. Awesome videos here m8s.
The top gear of brewing! You guys are great, don't stop.
There was beer i feel tried from the exercise. Enjoyed the session spot. Wooo0o movie of the year award for sure. I enjoyed drinking my home made beer watching this
forget beer, your channel is awesome! love the b-roll
Love this channel. Keep it up guys.
Still my favourite episode, I brewed this beer and turned out fantastic, great recipe!
This might be your best video yet and the rest are hard to top!
Great Clip !
Great video guys, I guess it’s my favorite!
This is the most epic video yet
This is the best video you've ever made!
Another solid video gentlemen! I concur with the others that the MN North Stars shirt was awesome! IPL sounds like an interesting beer that I have never brewed or consumed. You inspired me to give it a shot sometime. Cheers!!
Another one for the ages!
One of your best "episodes" to date!
The best ever you guys!
this is such a well made video. we'll done you guys
You guys are the best
Great eposode.
Awesome that you really have a PUCH, they are from Austria where I live and are legendary. Can can be super proud of it
Long time viewer, first time commenter…you guys ROCK!
Damn this is the best beer making video i have ever seen
Машина по закрутке пивных банок, просто загляденье, хочу себе такую !
Lawson! Dude! 🔥
This was actually an "Aidan Joint" but Lawson and Nathaniel shot all the footage
@@ClawhammerSupply didn’t even know there were Aiden joints! Impressive stuff!
What fond did Aiden use for the video? For whatever reason it is incredibly visually pleasing
Enjoy watching these videos, but I'm here more for the process and their take on the beers. The back and forth between brewing and the various shenanigans is kind of aggravating.
You may find the articles (linked to in vid description) more helpful, as we focus more on the process (ingredients, procedure, etc.) there without the shenanigans.
Прикольные вы перцы👍
The hop basket bazooka had me rolling, hahaha
This was really wholesome. That larger looked great.
Just wondering what effect the ale yeast would have on flavour using it to carb the beer.
This is how mother's Day viewing should be.
Lol... We totally forgot about it being mother's day until after we published.
I'm amazed that by adding yeast and sugar immediately before canning you didn't end up with hand grenades, but well done! Great view.
Anybody still here watching these videos and wishing CH would make more and/or fly to denver to make beer with ross?
Ross is all personality! Cracks me up
This is by far the best video you guys have ever put out, in terms of production!! It's a great balance of fun entertainment and fantastic information. If you use clearly firm or a different fining agent again, please don't put it ik cans the next time. I want to see the results!! 😂😂
Freaking awesome
Good lord this is a highly produced show. Drones? Tons of music? Circular story lines? Camera shots from all over? I mean that as a compliment, to be sure. Also I don't know if you mentioned it but Clarity Ferm is something people use to reduce gluten in the finished beer. People who are sensitive to gluten have some success drinking beers made with that stuff, but of course I'm not a Dr. and everyone is different. I thought that was the main use for it but you seemed to use it as a clarifying agent. Maybe it's both. Or maybe you mentioned that and I wasn't paying attention. Great vid and I love me some IPL.
FWIW I use it in all my batches and my gluten-intolerant girlfriend is able to crush my homebrew. Gluten allergy is a scale though, so look deeper into this and see what works for you. Also not a doctor lol
You should do a new homebrewing version of jackass! Supervideo 🤙🏻
Hands down better than any lifestyle tv shows
Nice video! What was that gravity reading device you used?
Anton Paar EasyDens.
Love these videos, the music selection is excellent. Always a bit trippy, but too many adverts.
CZcams does the ads automatically... They've really been laying them on thick lately
What kind of canning machine are you using? Would you recommend it?
Could you carbonate in a keg and dispense into the can instead of guessing with priming sugar?
With that amount of hops quick lagering methods and even clean kveik strains should be masked good enough anyways... btw. nice to see u guys biking...
Kyle, just curious as to why you guys used 2 Whirfloc tablets when 1 Tablet is enough for 10 gallons? I have been cutting mine in half for years for 5-6 gallon batches and never had a problem. Also, wondering if you guys are ever coming back to Fort Collins? Would love to talk shop and have a few beers.
We typically always use a full tablet for 5 gals which is why we did 2 for 10. We're probably doing it wrong.
Guys when you are filling up cans or bottles, why not put it from fermentor into sparged keg via ball lock and then fill from keg the opposite way as co2 for propellant, and you can also sparge cans/bottles with co2. way way less oxidation. but it is more work :D
Need a video on your loop machine
If you keep the grains in the mash while fermenting and then filter before you clarify instead, the abv% will be way higher. All those starches you threw out can be slowly broken down by the yeast into glucose and then ethanol, using enzymes like Maltease, and Amylase. Yeast is a genetic code that is able to do a lot of different things!
IPL is one of the first beers I ever brew! Such an amazing style!
My absolute best beer by far is a Nelson Sauvin single hop dry hopped Berliner Lager (Berliner Weisse/Lager hybrid).
Amazingly refreshing and surprisingly complex. Super crushable.
It's also the only recipe I've ever gotten perfect on my first try.
Did any coconut flavor through from the Sabra hops?
Priming sugar calculators have never worked for me so I just put in 9 g sugar /L for low carbonation and 10.5 g/L for high carbonation
Bottle conditioned cans! Not something you see every day, very kool
I want to brew an IPL, so I looked it up on CZcams and this video popped up, citra and sabro seem like good hops to use in this style, I can get lupomax hop pellets which are like cryo but not as potent, in both citra and sabro in 250g packs for like $32 each. Hmm 🤔
I want to get a fermzilla all rounder 30lt fermenter with pressure kit, duotight bottle filler, a heat belt and or a neoprene jacket and an ikbird
That way I'd be able to do lagers better than my 30lt ldpe bucket fermenter.
Or could just use lutra or voss kveik and bottle condition
I am a bit confused with the fast lager method. I think that this method is different from brulosophy. For example you pitch the yeast in 70 F and you leave it in room temperature however, in brulosophy he ferments in cold temperature for the 50% of fermentation. What is going on?
So, we added a little note at the bottom of the screen there to try and clarify but left out one key point: We borrowed the basic framework of the method from Brulosophy but amended it slightly by following a suggestion from White Labs yeast co. which was to keep it at room temp for 24 hours so the yeast get moving quickly then immediately cool down to lager temps once you see activity.
@@ClawhammerSupply thanks man
I really love that bike that Emmet is driving. Anyone have any recommendations on where I can find a gas bike like that?
Marketplace. The prices have gotten a bit out of control the last few years but there are still deals to be had . Search for puch moped in the normal places
So, did you get coconut aroma/taste? I'm planning to make similar beer, but I want yo put way more sabro, but not sure about this stories about Coconut from it.
No coconut...
@@ClawhammerSupply ay, damn it. Maybe I will try "dry hopping" with the coconut flakes in the keg then...
OMG I had a Puch moped when I was a kid in the 80's, did yours used to be blue?..I was so little when we first got it, my parents said you can't ride it yet we need to get a helmet then you can..well it never came but like 2 months later we had a neighborhood yard sale and someone had a full face bell motorcycle helmet they sold me for like $8 and my parents eyes were like where did you get a helmet?!? hahaha
And the nails are back but this time ... they look beautiful 😻
What can seamer are you guys using?
Flaked wheat or Flaked oats if I don’t have biscuit malt ????
I really enjoy the episodes and beers you guys make, especially the sense of humor you put in the videos is great. Can I subscribe to 1-800-HIREKYLE? I live in the Netherlands and miss the States looking at the view on the mountains, but as soons as possible I will visit and enjoy all the great AMerican style beers.
You didn't mention the Piss Bea tag.
what cool oldschool helmet is this?
Do y'all offer a grain basket for a keggel
Negative. Sorry
@@ClawhammerSupply it's fine it was worth the ask
second watch, excellent.
So your next product is canning machine, ehh?
Emmit - is that sunscreen in your pocket or you just happy to see me? 22:00
Why is it called India Pale Lager? Was it originated in India?
