  • KAUMAKANI, Hawaii- EOWS 612 at Kaumakani Park; Thursday March 6, 2014 at about 10:30 AM. Residents in these areas may hear the siren sound for 30 seconds during these timeframes. State Civil Defense technicians will be troubleshooting work associated with recent conversions to satellite/cellular activation mechanisms.
    I had time so I decided to make the 35 minute flight to Lihue, took the first flight out. Commuted by the Kauai Bus. After the test, went back to Lihue; do some sightseeing for the entire afternoon. Spent the entire evening at Lihue Airport; took the last flight out. Until today, my last trip to Kauai was in 1988.

    Awesome siren! For a second there, I thought the rooster crowing in the background was the actual sound it made lmao

    If you look closely this siren was either refurbished or brand new

      gabby LOL what? These things haven't been in mainstream production for over a decade presumably. If anything were to be bought new from Hawaii Civil Defense, it would likely be at your best bet a given model from their preferred Modulator series - a siren series they've been migrating to since the late 90s. I wouldn't place my bets that would be new-old stock, unless it is on a part-per-basis tune up deal.

      They were bought around that time frame in this particular jurisdiction, yes probably. I was just saying at the time of the video was taken, whether or not they decided to go all out and refurbish the siren head as well when it received new electronic components.

      @KiddBloo86 Před 8 lety +14

      A way for each speaker to be tested singally.

      When they are testing the speakers they can visually identify which one needs work without having to find out while you're up there.

      Actually, they are covered in the front by grilles.

      @@flyoversirens3704 Yeah, the speaker terminals on the Siratone controllers are labeled with letters A through F. That way a problem speaker can be easily located.

      All of Hawaii's 612s were upgraded to UV, with the exception of one that's running an MC. UVs aren't that odd to see on 612s. Many have been upgraded to UVs and many were shipped with them. Federal manufactured 612s into late 2007. The UV launched in 2002 for reference.
