I like the idea behind Bloodbath Diablos roaring then attacking. It gives the idea that because it was likely wounded by a hunter it has learned a potential weakness humans have and is trying to exploit it. It is like a monster having a strategy to fight against hunters.

I personally like idea of monster getting body-parts broken, getting away and growing up with the wound. Them having to compensate for the wound in different ways would make them a lot more interesting monster, than a simple colour change and speed-increase.
Imagine a Rathalos, who lost its tail from a previous "unsuccessful" hunt, grew up to be wary of hunters behind him and developing stronger wings/claws or breath-attacks.
Not only would this make an interesting fight, it would also enhance the world-building, with hunters and hunts not always being successful.
On a side-note. I wish, breaking body-parts would also have a bigger impact on the behaviour of the monster and their attacks. So you are either encourage or discourage to break specific body-parts, depending ob which attack causes you the most trouble.

@@Deckaio There are certainly behavioural shifts f.e. Barioth loses its footing when sliding and landing when you broke his spikes. This leaves a large attack window for your hits.
Deviljho eats his own severed tail, which leaves it busy eating and not attacking you.
Gypceros and Tzitzi yaku cannot blind you after you broke their heads.
Those are some examples and they also cater to the advantages of the hunter.
There is the scarred Garuga which is a battle hardened Version. But yeah I hope they continue this trend. It would be interesting to see injured variants.

Drake Petty | The disctinction between deviants, variants and sub/rare species were messed up from the beginning tho. Black Diablos is just a female Diablos yet it’s treated like a subspecies, Brute Tigrex is just a Tigrex that screams more yet it’s a subspecies instead of a variant. And what about all the lazy 1st and 2nd Gen recolors, that don’t add anything new to the base monster? What tells me that a Red Khezu or Blue Kut-Ku are truly a subspecies when there’s supposed to be a significant difference between regular and subspecies while the variants are usually the base monster with an enhanced attribute? You can’t muddy the waters if the waters were dirty from the beginning ✌🏽

Here are the list of Deviants that I hope would return in the future:
    - Bloodbath Diablos (self-explanatory, you don't even need to ask why I'd love to see this masterpiece so much), if it could redeem the disheartening disappointment that is 5th Gen Diablos (and Black Diablos, ugh), then bring it on!
    - The Fated Four Deviants (Hellblade needs more new attacks though)
    - Rustrazor Ceanataur
    - Deadeye Yian Garuga
    The honorable mentions:
    - Dreadking Rathalos's attacks could be given to Silver Rathalos to make him an even better Rare Species.
    - Dreadqueen Rathian...I'm not so sure, maybe they could give her characeristics to Pink Rathian, I guess...
    - Grimclaw Tigrex's characeristics could be given to Molten Tigrex to make it an actually good Rare Species rather than just being an annoying, time-wasting charge spammer like we have currently.

    • @mcgruber
      @mcgruber Před 4 lety +4

@Drake Petty It would be cool if there were deviants that weren't so prevalent in change and they were random, similar to real life, such as, you head out on an expedition and you see the usual Rathian or Rathalos but every now and then you'll see one with a completely different colour body or part that changes its behaviour. Rather than changing the entire monster, give them slight variations or evolutionary changes that keep things fresh. They could make multiple variables and have those also random so hunts would legitimately be unique each time. They could also then have the same monster spawn in the same map at the same time but they would be unique to each other. These changes could then vary from huge differences like faster movement due to smaller wings or even adding spikes and armour to weak points on one side etc etc
It would ground the idea a lot more while also adding significantly more depth to replaying the hunts. They could even slowly add these variables appear throughout the progress of the game rather than just locking them behind a level cap like they have with guiding lands currently. Imagine if they added materials from these monsters that are of very high level that could be obtained early on randomly that you hold onto till late game. Little things like that make the journey upwards in level really fun. Once you find what they're used for its a nice treat. Could even add the parts as pendants or Room decorations such as mounts for walls etc. It's endless really. As much content as MHW has, it really does just feel like a demo for what they're planning on doing. Considering its a new engine too.

My favorite has to be Rustrazor Ceanataur. I really like how much of an impact its shell has in the battle. To be honest I don't enjoy its gravios shell mode too much, but when it switches to the glavenus one... oh boy. I love the concept of taking parts from other monsters and so acquiring some of their capabilities (just like hunters do). We had already seen this in a few other monsters (rajang, both normal and shrouded nerscylla, nakarkos...) but in this case it was specially well implemented. Using a Glavenus skull to hone its already sharp claws is so cool, and the fact that they get rusted after some time (just like the glavenus' tail) adds in some level of internal consistency that I personally adore.

  • @ChaosXeloc

When I first played Generations, I hunted Silverwind Nargacuga and Hellblade Glavenus the most simply because I liked the look of the Narga equipment, and for how outrageously good the Hellblade gear was. Aside from that, I wasn't really a big fan of any of the deviant fights, simply because it took 3 fights minimum *for each of the 10 levels* in order to craft a fully upgraded set. So I basically ignored the rest after trying them all out.
When I got my hands on XX, the Divinesight Mizutsune (I still call them by the old translated names most of the time) became an even cooler version of what was already a top-tier monster in my eyes, so I hunted her to Super difficulty. Again, as someone who only played solo, it was way too much of a hassle to fight deviants the number of times required to make a simple set of gear, so I only checked the others out once apiece.
I've recently been playing MHGU with some friends now that it's been localized and with people being more open to the series. Even though I had to start over (since I can't re-import my MHXX save to MHGU), I'm actually looking forward to trying some of the deviants out more! Still, my vote for best design has to be "Soulseer" Mizutsune.

I’ve had some ideas for deviants that they never put in the game, specifically for Brachy and Lagiacrus. No one asked, but here are my ideas:
Darkstorm Lagiacrus: a lagia who’s fought a hunter before and accidentally overcharged himself, leaving the crystals on his back dead and empty. He can still perform lightning attacks, but because he can’t power himself up like normal, he’s learned several more intricate attacks with his thunder. He’s super aggressive and smart when it comes to hunters, and while his scales are scorched black and his crystals don’t glow, his adeptness with lightning puts him above even Ivory lagia.
Brightscream Brachydios: a Brachydios who sought out the special slime mold that raging brachys use. It started to kill it, so Brightscream did the only thing it could think of: it ate the slime mold. Internally the atmosphere was suitable for the mold. The fight would start off like a regular Brachydios just without the slime, but when it became enraged... ooh boy. It’s called Brightscream for a reason, let’s just say that.
I also had an idea for Alatreon, called Worldender Alatreon which is basically an ancient alat that learned how to control every single element and mix them together in one big super move, but I’m not sure if elders should get deviants.

I hope to experience Gammoth reworked for a modern game at some point in my life.
People keep saying its large, slow and a damage sponge, but it doesn't have to be, real elephants are relatively slow but they are also relentless as they run in a charge like the wheels of a massive train.
Plus the stuff real elephants and possibly mammoths do with their tusks, trunk and head can be surprisingly skillful and deadly to humans.
She can wind up a sweep with those tusks, or a foreward jab with increased knockback cause they're blunted. Or slam its head onto the ground and either squish the hunter or cause tremors, and even have a grapple where they sling you around by the trunk and don't let go for awhile.
Pair that with its present moveset, I think there's a lot that you can do to make her a nightmare to face early on and still be tough as you master the fight, kind of like Iceborne Rajang, Furious Rajang or Raging Brachydios.

Fast forward to someone showing off the armor of the Soulseer in front of me, and I was determined to get it. The battle was also really interesting with this new kind of foxfire he was firing around. A close second is the bloodbath Diablos to me. They really nailed the 'Monster out of hell' concept here and the battle is so much fun.
I cannot say much about the other Deviants, especially the older ones, simply because I wasn't in the mood to grind them. I would have definitely done the Dreadking, Dreadqueen, Silverwind and Hellblade for their armor and maybe one or two weapons, but farming them is too much of a chore for me. If they had at least incorporated a system were you can trade the for example the G Rank Dreadking tickets for the ones from low and high rank if you needed them, it would have made the fights much more tolerable for me.
Other then that, with the lack of Subspecies, they really went all out on the Deviants and I love them designwise.

Hella late but I recently picked up a Switch and GU while we wait for MH Rise. Transferred my HR5 save and I'm currently working on 8/9 star village quests. *Soulseer Mizutsune is definitely my favorite deviant* despite me not fighting him yet.

So my list of favourites and nightmares.
    Favourites:
    1) Silverwind Nargacuga. Farmed the literal hell out of the kitty to make almost all of its equipment and armor.
    Worth it.
    2) Dreadking and Queen Raths
Not gonna lie, their armors are good for chiller hunts that dont demand you go all out offense or defense. (Also, Dreadking reminds me of a certain streamer I played with, he "despises"Dreadking for good reasons.)
    3) Rustrazor Ceanataur
The melee weapons he offers are pretty good. Armor has good tank lancing skills as well, but looks terrible.
    Nightmares:
    1) Boltreaver Astalos.
The gear's worth it, but fighting his Super for the color option and the title? No. Just, no.
    2) Thunderlord Zinogre
Its not exactly a pain, but TL is like playing against a fighting game professional. You never know what he'll do.
    3) Bloodbath:
Its all fun and games until the BGM changes to phase 2...

Boltreaver is my favorite. The armor set you get is amazing

I really hope they continue with these Deviants, it makes the monsters more interesting and cool
