In todays video we go over the 2012 MMORPG Hunter Blade, a blatant rip off of Monster Hunter. Watch me Live! ► / flyann My Twitter ► / flyann_ #monsterhunter #ripoff #mmorpg
You mentioning Crazy Lizard just made me wonder about the music in the game. I'm not sure if you found any info on this, but was the music original at least?

Well, it can be something cool, like a cryptozoology hunt, maybe revolving around a secret/ancient civilization/society that has to keep them in check, otherwise sht happens in the world, therefore you have to hunt the "rouge" cryptids
Whats funny is capcom just ripped off the mounts and microtransactions. Seems fair play if they did not sue but considering if 10% of all assets are modified it's legal.
That’s why Capcom is still my hero. They’re the only game company found Tencent steal their stuff but rip them off back twice and actually make a lot of money

Literally I started with MH Tri on Wii and then found Hunter Blade on the internet XD Some time later I found MHFU on PSP and then I saw it's so huge rip off of everything there XD

Nah, I think monster hunter could add a plant monster. There's already plenty of carnivorous plants to draw inspiration from and there are methods to make a plant move. You could make it so you are actually "weeding" a plant out that happened to grow too long. Its core body is too deep or widespread to actually kill but the least you can do is get rid of a part of it that grew too large. Spiders are known to make webs to catch wind to travel vast distances. Some plants use ballistic dispersal to spray seeds out. Theres a lot you could do. Or you could go the elder dragon route and say "We don't know how it works."
9:56 they didn’t just go to the great lengths of recolouring existing monsters, they also went to the great lengths of recolouring recoloured existing monsters
Despite most of the monsters being reskinned, ngl some of the designs are pretty interesting and feel like they could fit in an actual official MonHun. I would happily smartly slay these ai monsters blood splashed on each cut.
I'm always sorta sad when I see Dauntless stuff, they got done so fuckin dirty, developing their own take on MH for a PC market only to have MH World announced around the same time they were starting their beta. You couldn't ask for worse luck.
I can't bring myself to dislike Dauntless. It was pretty fun from what I played, if a bit basic. The monster designs could be interesting at times (the owlbear being a particular favourite) and it even got one of my friends into the genre. I'd tried getting him into MH before but he refused simply because the series was on 3DS, but along comes Dauntless and suddenly we're playing together and having a fun time while also getting hyped for *World's* inevitable PC release. Also there was one time where we set a monster on fire and it died while digging into another area and we both lost it, honestly one of my favourite moments with the game
Honestly I tried to play it but it just felt so incredibly repetitive, way more so than monster hunter because of how almost every fight felt the same.
It sucks cuz Dauntless tried some pretty fun stuff, such as the Lasershow Brachydios or the way the Repeater Pistols worked and especially the sick-ass Shockwave special for the regular sword I honestly could see the game become better if they really tried
I always found the gameplay simply not satisying. Maybe I just didn't play long enough but it never clicked with me. MHW clicked with me instantly in comparison.

I laughed way harder than I should’ve at this video 😂 The run animation for the crossbow…gun? Killed me. And then the incredibly lazy names like “crazy lizard” and “green lizard” the cherry on top was the Lacerator beast. It’s the most hilarious abomination ever, it’s animations were killing me, I was literally dying on the floor
Holy shit I thought I was the only one that knew about this. I remember playing this when it launched because I wanted more of a MH fix since Frontier was out of reach at the time.
Intrestingly enough, there is a private server software archieved on the net but the guy who created never bothered to explain anyone how to use it And nobody bothered with it further to my knwledge
You know what? Actually not half bad, looks actually pretty fun and its also an mmo. I think my favorite is the crazy lizard because it has such a silly name.
I had so much fun in this game, I was a player killer in my old PK clan PhoKing. You even had a player killing score. If it got too high it would announce your monster hunts to everyone playing the game. any time I started a hunt I would have a stream of angry players trying to get their revenge. it really was a pvp players wet dream game.
man i remember playing a lot of this game with my friend. it was the only way for us to play a monster hunter game together. aside from managing to play Frontier or use xlink kai to play online on the PSP. so yeah before 4U playing mh with your friend online was a pain in the ass. xlink kai, ad hoc party, cracking frontier on pc or xbox, nobody had a wii U to play online so we where stuck on the 3ds version of 3G and local multiplayer etc. so even if this game was a pure knockoff, it manage to fill a void for us european at that time. its also why dauntless was so hype at that time. plus you had more RPG element than MH. you had a competence/skill tree system where you could spent point to unlock new move. its a long time so i barely remember but i'm sure that i mess aroud in the dual sword skill tree and unlocked some new demon mode move.
Been wishing someone cared enough to get a private server up for this for a while, didn't get to experience it back in the day and would love to try out something goofy like this.
really strange seeing old gameplay of my own character in a video of a game from a decade ago. I see myself multiple clips - totally forgot about this game
Wow, this game is insane. On one hand, there's an insane amount of just stolen stuff in this. On the other, there are some insanely cool stuff in here. Like: The Sand Ray? The Corpse Flower? Desert Sand King? The Gila? Those look so cool! I wanna hunt them!!! A few of the reskins are cool too. Swift Bat? Oasis Beast? Those look cool, and could easily be amazing with their own move sets.
Now the CHAIN HAMMER actually feels like something that could maybe be introduced into Monster Hunter (Maybe different mechanics so Hammer never becomes obsolete but is instead still the Stun King while Chain Hammer could, perhaps DEBUFF the monster instead? Have the weapons be more likely to inflict blights?)
That Plant monster is just Tropicallo from the Mana series but I don't think theirs a 3D one until Trials of Mana remake that came out like 2 years ago. Very interesting.
I would maybe like a uh... porcupine monster. Also I know that Rajang covers the bases of Boarlike monster, but a giant bullfango is neat. I saw a plant monster so that's cool. Most of these ideas for monsters are nice or cute. Although monster hunter has monsters that cover these bases in some way, but that plant monster would be fun to see. Would be very interesting to see a defensive, somewhat limited movement wyvern that requires you to think a bit smart with dodging, just like with those vines in the clip.
An interesting bit about the weapons, The ones in this game that are not in monster hunter might be the unused types that they somehow got their hands on. The maker of the original game said that they had a few other weapon types they ended up scrapping in testing cause they just did not work out right and that they planned on having magic in the game but scrapped that to make it feel more grounded and real.
It's kinda sad that you cant play this anymore because not only it looks hilarious but no one would be able to actually release such a bizarre rip off with this kind of quality in this day and age
I've low-key wished MH had at least one "magic" weapon since a little after I started playing, especially after reading the artbook notes. IG finally made it in but still no magic staff and talismans. Of course given the limited lore behind magic in MH it might be hard to integrate into the setting (since contrary to the insistence of a lot of fans who will openly and flagrantly deny reality in order to discourage Souls fans from getting into Monster Hunter, the series has a lot of lore and generally tried to make gameplay in some way consistent with that lore). Since only elder dragons have actual magic, it would have to either be a weapon class that was completely unavailable until at least the end of low rank (when the first ED encounter usually occurs), have extremely limited early crafting options and only be dragon element (which certainly seems like it would be a sort of "ultimate" element but of course apart from the raths and a few others it's really only good for hunting EDs anyway) since the only way dragon magic enters the ecosystem as a whole is via dracophage bugs and dragonfell berries (and the things that consume them), or just be "magic" in big fat scare quotes and actually be like a flamethrower or something that uses monster elemental sacs to spew elemental beams and clouds, which I feel like pulls away a lot of the mystique of some kind of shaman carrying a crook and talismans.
Honestly Chain hammer sounds like a good consepte for a weapon, a heavy hitting weapon with ranger capabilites and a mechanic similar to the clutch claw/puppet spider but less op, I will be down for that.
@@MarieTheLegend Im fully aware of that, I mained it when I played frontier, but I said a chain hammer not a magnetic arc blade with a baseball hammer like movement, equipped with nuclear bomb.
I saw this one as a teen like 8 years ago when i was searching for mh fix anywhere i could. I thought that it looked like a chinese bootleg and returned to lamenting lack of frontiers in the west. Thanks for awakening memories.
Aw man I forgot about this game. I remember hating on this game back in the day (I was just getting good with my 3rd MonHun game). Now being a veteran I would've love to Tri this game.
I've always referred to MH-inspired games as "Hunter-likes" since - as with Pokemon and "mon games" - feel it encourages more competition and variety in the formula (as with Souls-likes) rather than monopolizing the genre (MH itself cribbing notes from Phantasy Star Online)...that being said Hunter Blade reaaaaaaally pushes that considering the amount of stol-...er, *borrowed* assets and animations. It is incredibly interesting as a piece of lost media and a fascinating subject due to the proliferation of monsters and weapons with unique movesets made in this near-identical (if not stolen) engine lost to time. A genuine knock-off/clone, but a very interesting one.
😂 holy shit they straight up said “hmmm, let’s just take all the successful game mechanics from the last 15 years, rip em off and slap em into monster Hunter, boom we got a winner!”
I played a bit of Hunter Blade and I had a pretty good time with it. I used the wand which was a weird change but it was a decent time for when I played it. This video was fun though because I briefly thought I had imagined this game
it was fun, i discovered this alongside monster hunter frontier, never was able to play frontier for obvious reasons, so this filled the gap the desight of the "velociprey" were cooler than monster hunter
Basilisk and the lava one might be based on Pariapuria, Sand Ray is just Tartaronis but smaller and faster, while Corpse Flower uses combinations of various Frontier monster traits. Desert Sand King is just Raviente but tiny and worse, then Lacerator Beast is pretty much Voljang without fire from the looks of it. The ones you couldn't find also share a lot of similarities with MH monsters.
I feel like dauntless actually did a pretty good job at not being a MH clone. It feels like a somewhat well polished more casual version, but still has some original competitive elements and ideas like omnicells and weapon specials, and a weekly speedrunning contest. I love both franchises.
there used to be a mmo called raiderz if I remember it correctly. It was essentially monster hunter but with faster combat, I enjoyed it a lot since I find the original MH to be quite slow and restricting. It failed pretty quicly, miss that game. I once unlocked a hidden invisible sword that dealt massive damage and made feel like saber from fate stay night, good times.
Ahhh, I've played this game. Took me a while into I saw the character creation screen. Personally, never enjoy the MH series but for some reason this game was actually fun. But if I remember correctly, it got shut down. which was sad because it was quite decent.
It sucks that there are devs in China making completely original games, but all we see from China here in the west are rip off versions of already popular games. Because of their nonexistent copyright laws, why even be creative? Even Genshin Impact, a game that had an $100 million dollar budget, straight ripped off so many BOTW features/aesthetics when the strength of that game comes from its storylines and complex characters. People called it a cheap clone at launch, but it ended up paying off for them as free advertising as the game is positively received now. It seems like the safe option for chinese devs is to rip the hell out of the most popular games at launch, and then make the game you really want.
I remember trying to play this game back in the day as I couldn't afford any consoles that had any MH titles and it lagged super hard even during character creation, nevermind the combat lol. It was unplayable for me in LATAM
Dang I remember playing this game maybe like 10-12 years ago during middle school and grinded to reach the maximum power level available back then. NGL the game was actually fun and challenging and it being the first monster hunter clone on PC was just too damn attracting as a monster hunter fan since freedom unite, and my copyright awareness wasn't good. It was a rather interesting MMO style monster hunter with the goods and bads of MMO, and trust me MMO types of game were rare back then, so it was the first of its kinds to some extents. I honestly think this game was more fun than Tencent's MHOnline because MHO was just a worse and restricted MMO. If Capcom ever make an official MODERN MH MMO (that's not region locked) I'm definitely playing, even a rebuilt MHF I'll gladly take.
Oh god I remember seeing this back in the day and the backlash from it and was geniunely surprised when it was announced for a Western release when Frontier never got one.
I wish they would've used more of the MMO aspects for MHW. It's still the best by far in the series IMO, but World with big team raids and some kind of invasion pvp mechanic would be awesome. They could do rougue hunters or do a left for dead style thing where an online opponent gets to come in as a random rare monster. That way you're encouraged to engage with it for rewards, but you could just try to avoid them and continue your hunt.
Bro i remember playing this game... i was feared. Lmao i remember soloing a raid boss when everyone else died, and that boss with the shell with spikes that use to wipe parties...good memories
It’s sad nobody talks about Monster Hunter Online, there’s so much awesome things in that game. BTW that Buldrome render is a April Fools variant called Elemental Buldrome he has Merphistophelin powers.
OH MY GOD I thought I would never see anyone cover this game again. I was just thinking about hunter blade, again. I remember this game, tons of screenshots. I remember the pvp weird werewolf mode. Like what. Also the starting and end game armor was SICK> the promo for the game I loved, it was such a shame i didnt have the proper time to grind it out but also I hit the hardest wall in the game. I loved this game though. Along with ZMR. Shout out to people who played Japanese mmo monster hunter and the chinese mmo. I love Hunter Blade, to this day I have the original installation preserved waiting for the day We can resurrect it!
As an native Chinese speaker it's so freaking hilarious hearing those ridiculous trailer sell lines cuz I can 99% guess whats the original lines they were translated from
If they don't have an Avatar 2 collab in Sunbreak then I am switching over to hunter blade. Please james cameron make it happen I want an event quest where we slay a Tulkun
TBH I play dauntless too just because I got it for free and to me they feel separate enough now to be enjoyed as their own games with the same playstyle. I don't play it very often though because they made it too easy and too fast paced. I like the challenge of monster hunter better. I also have to re-learn my move set in monster hunter if I play dauntless for a while because of the different buttons (that sucks!)
Honestly dauntless does have good qualities too it, and it can be a fun game to play with friends. Just don't find the need to play it myself when world/rise are on PC
just noticed this, the "desert sand king" has the exact same headbutt attack as the ARK dune worms that live on scorched. Those ****ers traumatised me so i recognised it immediately
I love that the majority of going back in time in the Monster Hunter and Monster Hunter adjacent series' is all crunchy, compressed old internet video quality
It took me a while to realize this was the same game I played years ago after I failed in installing MH Frontier lmao. I only realized it's the same game after seeing that mammoth monster. I legit had fun with it though.
I may have played hunter blade a bit way back. I played the tutorial but cause back then all i had was a potato laptop i remember the game running poorly and i dropped it pretty quickly. Because i played for such a short time i have completely forgotten this game till this video.
I do find it funny that so many monsters look.. Well, weird and unique (ignore that they're ripoffs for a moment) but then you get to the small monsters and herbivores and it's just straight up regular dinosaurs, mammoths and etc that look like they came from a ps2 Turok game.
i played hunter blade back in the day with my real life friend. For some reason we kinda love to play it. I think this could go huge if it was a big publisher studio. Maybe with graphical update and better movement / gameplay that could have beaten monster hunter. Because at that time, there was no online monster hunter for the western regions. Only frontier and online (japan)
Dauntless would be so damn cool, if it wasn’t so simple in basically every direction. The few weapon classes, the few combos weapons have, the monster injury system.. and many more things. It’s just not even as close as fleshed out, as Monster Hunter is

the cherry on top was the Lacerator beast. It’s the most hilarious abomination ever, it’s animations were killing me, I was literally dying on the floor
Wake up Babe! Flyann just uploaded another Monster Hunter video!
Holy shit I thought I was the only one that knew about this. I remember playing this when it launched because I wanted more of a MH fix since Frontier was out of reach at the time.
this game took "imitation is the highest form of flattery" to a whole new level 💀
Intrestingly enough, there is a private server software archieved on the net but the guy who created never bothered to explain anyone how to use it
And nobody bothered with it further to my knwledge
You know what? Actually not half bad, looks actually pretty fun and its also an mmo. I think my favorite is the crazy lizard because it has such a silly name.
I had so much fun in this game, I was a player killer in my old PK clan PhoKing.
You even had a player killing score. If it got too high it would announce your monster hunts to everyone playing the game. any time I started a hunt I would have a stream of angry players trying to get their revenge. it really was a pvp players wet dream game.
That's actually awesome
@@flyann2 it really was because if you invaded someone and killed them 3 times, BOOM hunt failed
man i remember playing a lot of this game with my friend. it was the only way for us to play a monster hunter game together. aside from managing to play Frontier or use xlink kai to play online on the PSP.
so yeah before 4U playing mh with your friend online was a pain in the ass. xlink kai, ad hoc party, cracking frontier on pc or xbox, nobody had a wii U to play online so we where stuck on the 3ds version of 3G and local multiplayer etc.
so even if this game was a pure knockoff, it manage to fill a void for us european at that time. its also why dauntless was so hype at that time.
plus you had more RPG element than MH. you had a competence/skill tree system where you could spent point to unlock new move. its a long time so i barely remember but i'm sure that i mess aroud in the dual sword skill tree and unlocked some new demon mode move.
Love the vids man, there is not many people like you who really put passion in mh videos in this platform anymore.
Rage Gaming is one
Man, they really went above and beyond to infringe copyright at every step.
I remember this! I swear it was shut down a long time ago. This game was amazing when i wanted my MH fix on the big screen back in the MHFU days
Actually there's some sketchy leaked server files somewhere nobody has been able or bothered enough to make it work but i guess it could be possible
i kinda wanna see josh and cotton play this game
I would maybe like a uh... porcupine monster. Also I know that Rajang covers the bases of Boarlike monster, but a giant bullfango is neat. I saw a plant monster so that's cool. Most of these ideas for monsters are nice or cute. Although monster hunter has monsters that cover these bases in some way, but that plant monster would be fun to see. Would be very interesting to see a defensive, somewhat limited movement wyvern that requires you to think a bit smart with dodging, just like with those vines in the clip.
Rajang is a boar? Also...there is already a giant bullfango monster, called bulldrome.
Great video man, shame you can't play this anymore
Let me just say your videos are super cozy.
Love the style of narration over monhun(ish) b-roll while smooth, smooth jazz plays.
Peace my man
I've low-key wished MH had at least one "magic" weapon since a little after I started playing, especially after reading the artbook notes.
0/10 no Gunlance >:(
Honestly Chain hammer sounds like a good consepte for a weapon, a heavy hitting weapon with ranger capabilites and a mechanic similar to the clutch claw/puppet spider but less op, I will be down for that.
magnet spikes already exist
I actually remembering playing this. The only memory I have is how I was walking to the first area in a ravine or something, hills on both sides.
12:17 17:52
The Desert Sand King is just a Graboid from the movie TREMORS, it has the same splitting jaw and hooked beak.
Anyone else see that?
😂 holy shit they straight up said “hmmm, let’s just take all the successful game mechanics from the last 15 years, rip em off and slap em into monster Hunter, boom we got a winner!”
I played a bit of Hunter Blade and I had a pretty good time with it. I used the wand which was a weird change but it was a decent time for when I played it. This video was fun though because I briefly thought I had imagined this game
Oh yeah me too.
That thing sucked until you unlocked some of the skills for it, like the aoe damage zones. It's the main reason I miss that game
@@jesfest I think what made the wand stick out to me was how different it played. I just wanted something fresh at the time even if it sucked
LOL This clone MH looks like bullshit but it is actually the best MH clone that I have ever seen (In terms of accurate MH mechanics and gameplay).
Using Akantor skeleton for something like that is actually quite nice, remind me of the mini Khezu in MHFU
it was fun, i discovered this alongside monster hunter frontier, never was able to play frontier for obvious reasons, so this filled the gap
the desight of the "velociprey" were cooler than monster hunter
i already know this will be a banger
It’s a Chinese game, what do you expect? They copy everyone and have no homemade success at all
@9:22 prong horn - I saw it jump and turn 180, and immediately said Kirin in my head. Saw the second leap and confirmed it
Basilisk and the lava one might be based on Pariapuria, Sand Ray is just Tartaronis but smaller and faster, while Corpse Flower uses combinations of various Frontier monster traits.
Bruh if you‘re gonna rip off a monster why would you choose blangonga lmao
The 'Sand Wyrm' reminds me of Dalamadur a bit, not sure if that was the intention though.
I love Hunter Blade, to this day I have the original installation preserved waiting for the day We can resurrect it!
clickbait then: game you may think is good is actually shit
clickbait now: game you may think is shit is actually good
Oh, I remember Hunter Blade! It was my favorite Inspired Wide-Broadcasted Team Hunting Gameplay experience!
As an native Chinese speaker it's so freaking hilarious hearing those ridiculous trailer sell lines cuz I can 99% guess whats the original lines they were translated from
Crossbow gun's animation looks similar to Phantasy Star Portable moveset when using a gun, especially the running animation.
If they don't have an Avatar 2 collab in Sunbreak then I am switching over to hunter blade. Please james cameron make it happen I want an event quest where we slay a Tulkun
The "Desert Sand King" or whatever it is called has a face that looks heavily inspired by the graboids from tremors.
I do love theses neat monsters in other monster hunter clones. The mainline series should take notes on them
It took me a while to realize this was the same game I played years ago after I failed in installing MH Frontier lmao. I only realized it's the same game after seeing that mammoth monster. I legit had fun with it though.
The Corpse Flower is Tropicalo from Secret of Mana!
Mmyes, i too liked Christopher Judges performance on the version of Kratos voiced by TC Carson. O.O
Is there a way to play this game still lol? Like a private server or something, I NEED to try it after soloing all MH games
I may have played hunter blade a bit way back.
I played the tutorial but cause back then all i had was a potato laptop i remember the game running poorly and i dropped it pretty quickly.
Because i played for such a short time i have completely forgotten this game till this video.
12:51 You could fight that Mosswine sometimes, but it was extremely strong. Dunno how ppl activated it back then.
I do find it funny that so many monsters look.. Well, weird and unique (ignore that they're ripoffs for a moment) but then you get to the small monsters and herbivores and it's just straight up regular dinosaurs, mammoths and etc that look like they came from a ps2 Turok game.
Unironically, Kratos being a crossover skin would be sick.
Gotta say the design and moveset of that olant monster reminds me A LOT of the boss from Secret of Mana / Seiken Densetsu 2.
i played hunter blade back in the day with my real life friend. For some reason we kinda love to play it. I think this could go huge if it was a big publisher studio. Maybe with graphical update and better movement / gameplay that could have beaten monster hunter. Because at that time, there was no online monster hunter for the western regions. Only frontier and online (japan)
Never thought I would see the day where I'd see a Na'vi and Kratos in one setting...
I can’t believe Capcom copied the great Ice Wyrm in monsters hunter world and called it Velkhana, no respect for copyright!!
Holy fuck how did they not get sued into the ground? I mean literally using the same animations and models and everything. Thats crazy
Dauntless would be so damn cool, if it wasn’t so simple in basically every direction. The few weapon classes, the few combos weapons have, the monster injury system.. and many more things. It’s just not even as close as fleshed out, as Monster Hunter is
