I think the check engine light is a good thing to have in a car; a warning about issues that you probably wouldn't be able to detect by how the car runs. I had a car where we decided to just leave the problem unfixed because it ran fine and would have been real expensive, so the light stayed on. What you failed to mention is that now you no longer have that warning for other problems, because the light is always on. There's no way to know if something else develops. I suppose you could just scan it every so often. For some problems, it might be worth the money to fix it not for the problem itself, but just to get your check engine light working again.

Scotty - I watch every one of your videos I find on CZcams and love them all. One thing about this one you might have mentioned is that this car has an interference engine and will soon need a timing belt/water pump service. If you can’t do that yourself you are looking at about $1500 or so at a Honda dealer. One alternative is to find a mechanic you can trust who will do it for less. Or keep looking until you find a good used Camry. I believe that since about 2007 most of them had timing chains.
