Seen him in 1984...he blew everyone away with his tone, speed, and compositons. He came out familiar sounding due to his own influences, and won us with being a larger than life rock star!..he had image, and his intensity was so aggressive. He threw his guitar around like it was an axe...serving as a sword as he claimed his new crown. It took a lot of time for most of us guitarists to collect ourselves back up off the cutting floor, and even today, 40 years later, we know who we will never be. Oh there are many after him..vinnie moore, steve vai, joe satriani, greg howe, jason becker, paul gilbert, J.P., jason richardson, etc, etc, but even to this day, malmsteen is like the dragon that many guitarists should savior from a safe distance...like an old tale hidden in the pages of your childhood story book....but in reality, he is still here...welding his axe...(a term that is only held by the greatest guitar slingers)...on his own terms.
Malmsteen will be studied and remembered a century from now. The man is Bach with a Stratocaster

In January of 1989 Yngwie did two concerts in what was then Leningrad Russia ( Now Saint Petersburg ) and called it " Trial By Fire: Live In Leningrad. Over 32 years later It is one Yngwie's Best Live Concerts. I'm proud to say I still have both CD and VHS unfortunately I don't have it on DVD.
The intro is a masterpiece. Perfect mixture of beauty & pain.
Met him in '84. Came into a club we were playing and stayed for over an hour! we chatted and had a grand old time! He signed my Strat with the connotation, "Play Loud" Very nice guy and phenomenal guitarist!!
Amazing musician and performer. Went to see him with my band's other guitarist back in '85 after we heard a 30-second radio spot promoting the tour. We drove home in silence, no longer feeling like young guitar hotshots. It was inspiring, eventually... after 2 weeks of severe depression, jealousy and awe. This guy's on another level and he's been there nearly 40 years.

The most brilliant guitarist ever. So fortunate to have seen him several times in San Francisco and the Bay Area. Still have guitar picks, drumsticks and many great memories.

As a fan of Rhapsody of Fire and Luca Turilli I'm ashamed to not know Yngwie Malmsteen sooner, he's clearly a big inspiration.
YM changed everything about music for me and I am a drummer. I heard Rising Force when it was released and bought it immediately. This cassette changed everything about metal for me. After YM I was a fan of Vinnie Moore, David T Chastain and ofc Gilbert and Freidman... Cacophony. Tony McAlpine was also awesome! Some excellent drummers played on these recordings!
I love this guy! He is nothing less than a virtuoso! The film crew need to keep in pace to keep this man's reputation intact.
