5:25 "...and, sometimes it's good, and sometimes it's not." Wow. That may be the first time I've ever heard YJM being humble. He's fantastic, and he knows it. But it's good to hear him acknowledge that, on occasion, he is not perfect.

There is confidence that comes from being able to do something well. And there is being a smug a-hole because you know (or think) you can do something well. Yngwie can do a thing very well. But he's been doing the same thing for over 40 years. The thing has worn off, his smugness hasn't. Without it being backed up by the thing still being relevant his smugness will be his greatest legacy.

He has a reputation of being a cocky, and you can still kinda tell he is, just a nicer version of cocky. I know it's part of his rockstar image, but funny how other monstrous players like Paul Gilbert or Michael Romeo is so easy going and down to earth in interviews. I'd say drop the ego, just let your playing speak (actually, Paul while only 4 years younger at 56, can still smoke almost every rock guitarist on earth, where as Yngwies chops are rusty compared to his prime.. Michael Romeo is also 55 and still clean as heck)

@@Donan777 Vibrato in guitar when a note is fretted (not when using the whammy bar or a slide) is by nature sharp as the microbends that create the vibrato can only go up in pitch (before coming back to pitch when the microbend is released). When you play it the way neoclassical dudes do (very wide and aggressive) it's always too sharp to my ears. I personally like the vibratos of guys like John Mayer, BB King, Brian May, Angus Young, David Gilmour, Albert King, Eric Gales, etc. They all have sweet vibratos :)

Yngwie is not insecure. Someone said that as to why he projects confidence and its silly. Because Yngwie was always confident before he became famous. And its not just him, I notice its true about every successful person who has invested a ton of time and energy into whatever they are passionate about.
You say Yngwie has not improved in the last 40 years? well he has in ways you may not even recognize. I love his work in Alcatrazz and his earlier solo albums... I think his Concerto album with the orchestra was and still is amazing. No one had done anything like that before. He was the first to do it in that context, followed by Steve Vai...He has already proved that he can write great songs, ballads and fusion type stuff, Reggae and blues...He also plays various instruments like Drums, Sitar, cello and bass..piano.
Yngwie is confident because he loves what he does and he loves the guitar. He never lost touch with his inner child. He is just as excited about playing today as he was when he first heard Ritchie Blackmore on his sisters record player. And when you sell out every place you go to play at just as you did in the 80s and 90s that of course gives you even more confidence ..
Sure, we wish he would put another band together and wrote good songs again and get a producer to bring out more of his best in him because we know he has alot more to offer than just shredding and being a one man show. Of course! But he has earne the right to do what he wants to do and have fun doing it.

Rick, don’t know if you read these .
But do a video on CZcams guitarists and how a lot of music now is missing passion.
The kids now get all the notes right and have amazing skills, but they seem to have forgotten the feel.
I see this so much when I see CZcams guitarists playing covers. They nail the notes, because of course they can slow stuff down now, have tons of vids of the artist playing the song live so they can see which position they are playing in etc.
we didn’t have that decades ago. But as my guitar mentor would tell me “ it doesn’t matter if you get 100% of the notes right, figure out the guitarists feel”
And that’s what we really strived for.
I see a huge lack of that nowadays.
    Cheers

Rick, you just have to, have to, have to, have Yngwie on again. Such a great interview and there is so much more for you to get out of the guy. You just have the best relaxed manner for your interviews and it really brings out the best in the artist at hand.

Can we have a 5 hour Yngwie interview?

in all honesty, seeing as how movie "Dokken" is currently in developmental stage, it would be a hell of thing to see a movie about Yngwie BUT based on "As above so below" book by Anders Tengner, not YJM's watered-down version of events. It would make "Dirt" look like "Rock of ages"

Love the Yngwie interviews Mr. Beato. I never realized what a large man Yngwie is until he was standing next to you!

Yngwie is the only one I still adore these days, the test of time tells he's the real thing.

Less is more only works with the interviewer, letting them talk and carry on. 🤣❤

Yngwie’s attitude reminds me of michael Jordan, so much confidence with all the skills to back it up

I used to have a cassette 90 filled with just his solos. Back to back. No songs, i just painstakingly recorded his solos to sing to! 😂

It's so fitting that his talent is bundled with a dude who is a true, funny, wild character. Perfect.

I always try to find new applications for the screw in a light bulb joke. I haven't heard that one before.
