Kristin is such a genius that sometimes its easy to overlook what a sonic contribution Tanya made to the Muses. She really shines here. What a combination they were!
I think if i had to pick one and only one group to listen to ever again, it would be TM. 20 years of listening to them and I still get goosebumps. Killer.
Every time I listen to any part of it The Real Ramona climbs up another notch on my ladder of Musical brilliance. I only regret how long it took for me to discover Throwing Muses.
I got this album at a used CD store in San Antonio in the mid 90s. I then took it on a road trip to visit my brother in St Louis. My carmates didn’t quite know what to think. This album and song rock!
Wow, I discovered Belly in 1995 and bought a Throwing Muses CD. I started down the CZcams rabbit hole tonight and found myself here. Just absolutely amazing music with a sound unlike any other.
they are geniuses. both. kristin for her vision and tanya for her sonic contribution. they were beautifully melded together. and even though the muses were still fantastic after tanya's departure, you can still hear that missing element. but alas. it just pisses me off how much tanya donelly always gets fucking ignored when people talk about great guitarists especially those specific of that era or alternative(which the muses i think had a hand in shaping,no?)...to me she and polly harvey(another who's often underappreciated) are still my faves!
i totally agree and i live in tasmania.i read smells like teen spirit kurt heard downtown by throwing muses.very similar but kristen wrote this 80s and he did that guitar twang.polly throwing muses juliana hatfield, why they not mentioned guitar
There's live footage of them playing Soul Soldier in 2011, and David has a china, 1 crash, & ride, first time I saw it I thought "he's using a lot of cymbals these days" :) If I could take lessons from a celebrity drummer, I would choose either Narcizo, or Stewart Copeland.
The Real Ramona is THE perfect 'old school' album with many different atmosphere : All tracks are like high mountains ... But, ladies and gentlemen, with Hook in her Head begins the Himalaya !!! After the bridge 'Dylan', the 5 last songs are just incredible
Because back then, the masses in the rock world were overdosing themselves on overrated grunge. Only pathetic Hootie And The Blowfish were somehow spared from the onslaught. I remember those times well and was disgusted as there were quite a lot of unique, killer groups like Throwing Muses in the late 80's/early 90's and each sounded different from each other. Those were the days!
ZOU! Yes at the Blue Note (how great was that place oh Wednesday Night Dance Party) I think it was Throwing Muses on Friday night and Blue Dixie on Saturday.
Amazing song. I've always wondered if Kristen could pull off the guitar riffs live and boy can she. Check out her recent two albums. She and her mates still have it.
Yeah i'd agree with that... people who love great, innovative songwriters will (or should) know Kristin's work. I'd say the same of people like Lou Barlow, Billy Janovitz and Ken Andrews... underated and even unknown to many people, but all equally amazing in their own way. But yeah, great vid anyway hehe
Luv Tanya and Kristin-met Kristin at one of her solo performances and she did excerpts from "Rat Girl" amazing book. Without the lyrics most of the songs wouldn't of been done-even though Tanya wrote the lyrics to "Reel" and a lot of my other faves, and I luv Belly, I don't think the dynamic would have been the same without Kristin-so much more music with her involvement and she has passion/more driven ;)
@cheaptwangers tonya does rock but i just finished reading kristins memoir called rat girl it sheds light on how the muses worked. i suggest checking it out.
Actually, I know I'm in a minority but I think it's Dave pushing through the drums and Fred on the Bass. It just makes the song felt rather than heard.

Dave Narcizo was the BEST drummer. Seeing him play live always blew me away.
He's still alive and still is an amazing drummer. Check out their new material.
Same. First time I saw them live, I decided he was my favorite drummer.
Him and Leslie Langston were the backbone that let Kristen walk. Tonya was ok I guess.
Yes me too. Live he is spellbinding.
His drumming on this song is sublime!

2020 still love the Muses
One of their best songs, very jagged, but so much feeling involved

and tanya is my favorite female guitarist

AGREED! I saw Throwing Muses twice, after House Tornado and on the Hunkpapa tour. to this day, Tanya is the best guitarist I've ever seen live. period
Tonya!
Tanya Donelly...WOW😘💜🌹💖😍💘😘👍
God I love them. Throwing Muses rule, I’m so glad there are live clips from this era on CZcams
David's drums are like a fucking locomotive.
Great drummer of Throwing Musses ... Great band !!! It marked me in the 90s ... Greetings from Chile (south of this world)
one of my fave vid ever
The way Tanya spreads her fingers
The Real Ramona is just a great album. HIHH is one of the highlights.

And 'Two Step' the most sublime album closer ever...what an experience.
@@NanciverseSo true ...
I have liked this song since I first heard it at college in the 1990s. Great work!
favorite song on this album. why oh why did throwing muses not take over the world?

Music for the head x
yes heard this band early, and obviously never stopped loving them, Kristen is amazing, just popped in for a quick shot.
Kristin has always been my favorite Throwing Muse! Brilliant songs, stunning voice!
Chilly chills, what amazing women oh and the men too x
Hersh is a freakin' dagger.
I wish she blinked more.
Beautiful voice
Glorious Tanya 💕
I saw them in May of 1991 in Columbia, Mo. It was either the night of or the night before I graduated from Mizzou.
MIZ...Blue Note by chance?
ZOU! Yes at the Blue Note (how great was that place oh Wednesday Night Dance Party) I think it was Throwing Muses on Friday night and Blue Dixie on Saturday.
Wow. Just...wow.
guitar interplay great on this

COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely.
always up for this
Ladies & gentlemen......Fred Abong.......
Amazing song. I've always wondered if Kristen could pull off the guitar riffs live and boy can she. Check out her recent two albums. She and her mates still have it.
Sun Racket was the best
Album of 2021. There it is.
Probably at their best
WOW!!!
Great early Kristen! Great performer! I like girls that rock!
Very good live sound !
Lovely!
that was f*cked up, holy shit so good
The Song, really.
Tanya Donelly!
The Real Ramona... wow.
Was that some Peer Gynt beginning at 4:56 ?
Brilliant!
Don't want that in your head. The 🎉 is over if you get 💊 hooked on

Is that a bit of Grieg (Morning) in there at 4:56?
Hola, me gustan mucho las canciones de Kristin y Tanya.
Hey yellOwsky... wanna share these videos??... or where can i download them?? please help!!!
Haha how 'bout that viciously twanging riff Kristin imparts with from 4:54 on...deeply badass.
@cheaptwangers
tonya does rock but i just finished reading kristins memoir called rat girl it sheds light on how the muses worked. i suggest checking it out.
@vilepete
It's called "Ratgirl"
Actually, I know I'm in a minority but I think it's Dave pushing through the drums and Fred on the Bass. It just makes the song felt rather than heard.
It's Tanya who plays that part, not Kristin -
The Bass player was always solid as a rock, but rarely gets a mention.
@SantinaSings Could you please tells us the title of her autobiography, or publisher? thanks!
@speedyspooley a really great bassist, although Leslie and Bernie are also great. You could really feel him on this and Ellen West.
Oh my days. At the risk of being unpleasant, it seems that 1 person is a complete and utter CJTC
Tonya... enough said.
er... you mean Peer Gynt Morning Mood? LOL, "viciously twanging"
I always find it odd how little singing they do together. No wonder they split.
Wheres that cute little kitty Tanya Donnley at?? Come here kitty, aah nice kitty I want to pet it all night long..
Well THAT’S an 11 on the Creepy-o-meter.
Rough, strange, operatic.....ruined,,their first work product was a diamond inside the lions mouth
This song is really boring it's like listening to take five but in six and without bridge
@@josephmartin8169 I'd rather listen to John Cage's 4'33" in a vacuum chamber
