"You're a black person walking into a narrative that you have contributed in no way, whatsoever, to writing." Shuuuuu! That statement alone came with a wave of freedom and understanding. LOVED this conversation. ♥

I resonate with this experience so much, especially with China. You tell yourself, “I’ll go for one year” and then 1 turns to 5. I miss China so much ❤️🇿🇦🇨🇳

I am hopeful that the tide is turning. The conversations about travelling and living abroad are coming up more and more for South Africans. People must go! For a week, a year, a decade. Whatever it is. Just go! There's nothing quite as challenging AND beautiful as stepping out of your comfort zone and engaging a place that is different from your norm.

I wish more South Africans visit usa. We have a whole bantu fest and African Americans (from pre-colonized bakongo/Mbundu bantu tribes), + Congolese (modern bantu tribes) also show up, but no South Africans show up.
There is also a Zulu parade, Zulu’s parade band and the fancy, Zulu coronation ball, that started because African Americans were inspired by Shaka Zulu, and no South Africans ever come visit and join in 😢 .

    Guys akuve nginithanda ❤
Lovely chat as usual. Kitso’s perspective on things is quite refreshing I have to say. She really articulated a rather perplexing phenomenon to explain when you’re experiencing it. Homogeneous countries are a pandemic on their own😂 because why ni clueless nina?
One day South Africans will be a traveling nation. One citizen at a time, in fact one female at a time because nobody is as patriotic as a man in Southa 🤣.

Loved this! Why was this episode rushed? It's a podcast, even 2hrs is fine, we not on radio or tv

i like the fact that she uses the word "fortunate" a lot. coz i also believe that luck/bad luck is a huge factor in a lot of things

thank you so much for tackling the community issue in a foreign land, however: she lived in Shanghai which is a tier1 city, which is totally different from where i am(a small rural town)anyway might move to a city soon so I'll definitely take her advice.🤣🤣i relate so much to using dating apps to get information, I learnt to use the transport system through dates, learned so much from amadoda.🤣😅😂

I do not think South Africans are reluctant to travel. It just boils down to money. A lot of families are struggling and the last thing on their minds is travelling. Only the rich are travelling because the middle class is also struggling somewhat financially.

You're correct, people just talk from point of privilege yazi. Many of us lives on a survival mode, so traveling is definitely not on my radar.

Black south africans dont travel bcoz of Apartheid legacy, they are still locked in a township mindset at least and at best bantustan...and the pass rules etc.
