  • Falling pregnant as a teenager in highschool is one of the biggest blunders that a young girl can commit. And it is worsened by the rejection you get from your own community, friends and family, who treat you like a contagious pathogen.

I had a baby at 21 and I still carried the shame for 10 years. It’s hard when you feel like you have to redeem yourself by yourself when you barely have an idea about who you are and what your goals are. I’m 35 now and in a better state of mind because I eventually forgave myself.

What an insightful episode. I think I never realised how intense the experience of being shamed by your community is as a pregnant teen. Because the moment a teen becomes pregnant its like as society we forget that this is still a teen, who is still so vulnerable.

I was in matric when I fell pregnant, also immediately knew vele kuthi I was pregnant. And I had my baby the following year, chose to stay and take a gap year to raise my baby (breastfeed, be there for all the milestones etc.) because I felt like I owe it to him (my son) to be there for him emotionally and physically.

Oh my soul this provides a better perspective to the pressure that some women have/had to go through the effect of the pressure that the society puts on them, this just makes the message so relatable.

Lovely episode. I would loved for her to share a bit more on how she experiences motherhood now after she had gone through teenage pregnancy. There still so much more to explore on this topic. Thank you to the guest for sharing her experiences with us and thank you to the host for a wonderful episode.

Guys please double click in this notion of people that are native to a place (city or country) being lazy/complacent.

I rarely comment on things but I wanted to say what a powerful testimony even for a woman like me who has never been in this position. The essence of this is to just believe in yourself and keeping going. Thank you for this beautiful episode. 🤍
