- A playthrough of U.S. Gold's 1994 licensed-based platforming beat 'em up for the SNES, The Incredible Hulk.
Played through on the hard difficulty level.
Like so many other popular Marvel franchises, The Incredible Hulk received his own game at the height of the 16-bit consoles' popularity. And like many other adaptations of the time, it's far from brilliant, but it's decent enough to provide a solid afternoon's entertainment.
In order to track down The Leader, The Hulk marches his burly self through half a dozen stages, uppercutting, pile driving, and generally brutalizing everything that crosses his path like a psychotic pro wrestler.
The levels are made up of mazes of branching hallways filled with tons of unpleasant thing looking to do you harm, but you have a sizable range of moves at your disposal, as well as the ability to pick up and throw things like boulders, phone booths, and cars. You have to be careful about your condition, though: once he's taken some damage, The Hulk loses his most powerful moves (and you really don't want to lose the Sonic Boom Hand Clap, believe me!), and if he takes further damage, he'll revert to his Bruce Banner form. While in his normal human form, ol' Brucie is virtually defenseless, but it can be useful when you want to sneak by the enemy unharmed or to enter passageways that The Hulk is too big to otherwise enter.
Though it's gaudy and cheesy looking, the graphics are pretty good for a SNES game. They look fairly similar in style to some other games that blend pre-rendered CG sprites with traditional pixel art (like ClayMates, Harley's Humongous Adventure, and Doom Troopers), and there's some nice attention to detail and color. (We also have the font from the Genesis Mortal Kombat game thrown in for whatever reason.) The audio fares about the same as the visuals. The music is of good quality, but it's laughably tacky in how it vacillates between porn funk and techno.
The gameplay is where things start to come apart, though. Like I said before, it plays well enough, but it has a few major issues. The controls suffer from a nasty amount of input lag, and many of the special move input sequences are unintuitively mapped to the controller. The level design needed a lot more variety, as well. You know those mazes made of plastic tubes that you can buy for hamsters? Many of these levels make you feel like you're the hamster.
The Incredible Hulk is a game that would've made for an ideal rental if you were into the character. It's not too difficult, everything generally works the way it's supposed to, and it provides some reasonable entertainment. That's not the most enthusiastic endorsement I've ever given a game, I know, but The Incredible Hulk on SNES is neither great nor awful, but decent.

I thought I was crazy. I’ve always had this vivid memory of a hulk game where there was a level that looked like flesh and you could pick up and throw a heart. That was literally the only thing I remembered from this game.

The Incredible Hulk is a decent platformer with a ridiculous style that makes it pretty fun. I mean, where else can you front like you're the Kool-Aid Man at a giant CG brain?
I think Hulk look cooler in grey with red eyes.
That giant brain was the actual final boss because the leader does nothing but stand there.

I remember playing this particular game on a jukebox with a SNES at a McDonald´s in Mexico around 10+ years ago. Played this a few years ago, now I want to replay it once again! So many memories.
Very few videogames capture comic book weirdness the way this one does. Respect.

I played this alot as a kid it was awesome! The levels where kinda strange to me like the being inside a body or fighting the sword dudes but I never read the comics so I dont know much about hulks enemies

Indeed. They should have had Bruce still be able to punch, just having the enemies take way more hits to bring down would have made a MASSIVE difference.
The graphics don't look like CG to me at all? Even the brain at the hand seems to be normal 2D pixel art, just with some very bright shading

@@neromauritzen6170 yes, is a deception (mejor ya me pongo a hablar en español en lugar de romperme la cabeza pensando en lo que digo en inglés), realmente hubiera estado bueno de que aprovecharán sus poderes, no sé, el robot que dijiste, que con su telepatía convoque hordas de enemigos, que se fusione con Abomination tal como siempre quería fusionar su mente con el cuerpo de Hulk, aparte de que en el juego Abomination solo está para ser humillado como sub-jefe en medio de cada nivel sin novedades más que su salud
@@neromauritzen6170 si, por si las dudas, lo de las películas, el padre de Hulk es de la película del 2003, pretendía ser una reinvención del hombre absorbente, ZZZAAAXX y claro, el padre de Banner (existe en los cómics, solo que primero es un hombre normal que afecto su biología por trabajar con bombas atómicas y posteriormente en la adultez de Banner se convierte en el Hulk del infierno o algo así), Abominación aparecía en la película del 2008, en su forma humana como un aliado del general Ross, aún que en la película el se convierte en Abominación por su ambición de poder cuando en los cómics lo hizo por accidente al buscar que robar en el laboratorio de Banner para posteriormente añorar sus días como humano, compartía la desesperación de Banner por volver a la normalidad, aún que cuando era Emil Blonsky maltrataba a su esposa y era un espía ruso
@@neromauritzen6170 uh no sabía que en Ultimate Destruction pasará lo mismo que en la pelí del 2003, tiene sentido porque el juego es como una secuela del juego de la película que a su vez es un epílogo de la película, siempre quise jugarlo pero para cuando supe del juego ya se me había "roto" mí PS2, eso del Devil Hulk y Brian Banner (David Banner en la película del 2003 como referencia a la serie live-action de Bill Bixby y Lou Ferrigno de los 70s en donde le cambiaron el nombre de Bruce Banner a David Banner porque decían que Bruce era un nombre no muy masculino) creo que es más como en el juego, tipo, tenía entendido de que siempre los asocian, me parece que una vez escuché como que el Devil Hulk fue algo que le contó el padre de Brian a Brian cuando era chico, es medio raro y la información de Hulk en CZcams es algo escasa, con respecto a mí nacionalidad soy nativo de Argentina, nací, crecí y vivo en Argentina, es el 2do país más grande de sudamérica siendo superado por Brasil, de paso igual hablas bien español, escribís mejor que otras personas que se supone hablan español de toda la vida, ¿Que opinan en Noruega sobre "The Mighty Thor" (el Thor de Marvel)?

I've seen other people play this game before, but every time I watch another playthrough I always wonder the same questions, especially where The Leader is concerned. Was Probe inspired by _Contra_ ? Why do some of the orange enemies look like the fishmen from _Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance_ ? Who is the teal-colored fish dude with manboobs harassing Hulk in most of the levels? Lastly, do I really WANT to know the answers to these questions?
The teal-colored fish is Abomination/Emil Blonsky, appears in the movie of The Increíble Hulk 2008/UCM the Leader (the final boss appears in the end, their name is Samuel Sterns/Mr. Blue)

I followed the name you gave me to the Marvel Wiki and found that Abomination first appeared in January 1967 and was responsible for murdering Bruce Banner's wife, Betty, by injecting his irradiated blood into her dialysis machine while she was sick in the hospital. Quite a piece of work.
@@LPetal86 yeah, tremendous how later Betty becomes She-Red Hulk, the poor thing suffered from everything, I understand that apparently she was once pregnant but lost the baby and later became a nun, I don't know how it continued but it is supposed to have happened

There's something sort of hilarious about clapping at enemies like they're misbehaving pets, and Bruce Banner crawling around on all fours like a feral child because the robots haven't been programmed to angle their guns slightly downwards.

This games looks like ass to be honest but this soundtrack slaps despite being like 3 songs apparently.
The music isn’t as good as the Sega Genesis version.
I think it's better on this version especially the final level theme and the other music sounds heavier than the Sega version in my opinion
